smells like flowers
Definitely a more exciting setlist! Hoping to hear I'm A Wheel when they come to Florida in May!
bböp
Just to add a few more thoughts about the show... As usual, the band made it more than worthwhile to see both nights of a two-night stand by significantly changing up their setlist from Night 1. Someone told us not to expect too many changes, but from the show-opening Reservations on, we knew we were in for a different type of show from the previous night. The only negative for me is that Jeff's vocals were pretty muddy-sounding from right up front, but hopefully it sounded better toward the middle and back of the room. But all in all, it was a much looser show than Night 1. Jeff bantered a bit more, saying that his New Year's resolution was to talk less on stage. But as he rambled on a bit longer, he realized that he broke it. Later on, and I can't remember specifically why right now, Jeff joked that Glenn was his "conscience." As far as what was played, the band huddled (or "conspired," as Jeff put it) a couple different times toward the end of the main set and in the encore so there was a sense that they might really be veering off their planned setlist. As it turned out, I think there was just one change were only two changes from the printed list: adding I'm The Man Who Loves You in the encore and substituting The Late Greats for Standing O as the penultimate song of the show. That might have been for time reasons since the Ancienne Belgique has a pretty strict 10:30 p.m. curfew, or perhaps it was because Jeff said the band wanted to "leave us with a belly full of rock. Not rocks." Personally, I sort of had a feeling that Candyfloss might show up during one of these two shows in Brussels and I was happy that it did last night. Didn't realize just how rarely that song has been played in Europe. I took a quick scan through the song archive and I only see one other time that it's been played across the pond — a 1999 show in the UK — so that was quite a rarity indeed for these parts. It's always a fun show when you get Candyfloss (not to mention I'm Always In Love, I Must Be High and Laminated Cat), IMHO.
Theremin
Definitely a more exciting setlist! Not really though, pretty weak encore with Walken (does anyone outside Wilco seriously think this is a classic deserving an encore spot?), Late Greats and I'm a Wheel. Also wasn't exactly waiting for You & I and Capitol City (which didn't really come together at all either). I also agree with Jeffs vocals sounding muddy. Still, the variety between the setlists made it worthwile to attend both evenings, though I definitely prefered the friday show. I thought his new years resolution was about taking guitar lessons btw.
Pennyghael
Agree with Bbop, well worth attending multiple shows in the same city. Not my favourite set of songs but some highlights such as I Must Be High, Candyfloss and Reservations to open. Other highlights were seeing Rising Red Lung performed from start to finish without a fight breaking out in the crowd, Bbop's reaction to Candyfloss being played. If you've ever been to a show with him and seen him excited at something you'll know what I mean, and Jeff's apparent corpsing over the first two lines of I'm Always In Love due to ............. Just to add a few more thoughts about the show... Jeff bantered a bit more, saying that his New Year's resolution was to talk less on stage. But as he rambled on a bit longer, he realized that he broke it. Later on, and I can't remember specifically why right now, Jeff joked that Glenn was his "conscience." This seemed to crack Jeff up a little causing him to miss his cue for the first two lines of I'm always In Love Following Jeff's dedication of I Must Be High to those old timers who were there at the beginning of Wilco. On scanning the crowd Jeff then quipped I don't see anyone so I guess they're all dead! Glenn muttered something along the lines of "you can't say that, that's bad!" I caught a glimpse of the list after the show and I think it was a case of adding ITMWLY and The Late Greats. I don't recall seeing Standing O on the print out. Great to meet even more VCers and maybe two new additions to the board after the show. Next stops Paris, Zurich and home....
pillowy star
The best thing about the show were the aftershow drinks with a.m. people. I kid. I kid. Great show, with the definite highlight Laminated Kat for me. I especially liked how laid back the crowd was, and yet how much into the show. No annoying talking, no screaming, no exaggerated jumping around, a very enjoyable night all over. Might have convinced us to check out more shows in Belgium. Now back home for the usual stuff that can't be procrastinated, then off to Zurich.

Backstage Pass
The thing with Wilco shows is that they are all very good. If you close your eyes and only listen to the music... For me there was not that much difference between Groningen, Brussels 1 and Brussels 2. Except for the crowd.During 'Brussels 1' the crowd kept pouring in until IATTBYH, which was quite annoying. I decided to go to one of the balconies, where I saw a great show with a very good setlist. The pick of the evening was the absolutely great response to Impossible Germany. It even drowned the first 10 seconds of Sky Blue Sky.The second evening was more laid back and like one great encore (indeed Jeff's vocals weren't...). Glad to hear finally Handshake Drugs. Walken, The Late Greats and I'm A Wheel I even heard too often. And what's the deal with Capitol City? I think Wilco has seen (and heard) too much bicycles in Belgium and the Netherlands. There were even bicycle bell ringing sounds at the beginning of Handshake Drugs! Did anyone notice? Belgium had to wait a long time for seeing Wilco again and it showed, the crowd being enthusiastic the whole show, twice. On the train ride home just one song lingering in my mind: Laminated Cat. And what a great city Brussels is! Jeff mentioned it also. He didn't talk a lot and well, if he starts talking at least you know Jesus, Etc. is coming up.And in the end you only feel quite sad knowing that you will see Wilco not for a long time. And in the end for comfort, Sir Paul will visit The Netherlands and Belgium and I have got my ticket for Rotterdam. Maybe Paul will sing a Wilco song? Probably not.For those, enjoy the rest of the European tour!!

Pennyghael
erm............ the guy must have had his thumb over Standing O when I saw it!
Theremin
I feel robbed now. Standing O is one of their few post-YHF dumb rockers that actually work for me.
