bböp
Great energy tonight, as usual at the Charlottesville — er...um...nTelos Wireless — Pavilion, and the weather gods smiled on us (except for the crazy humidity). The band responded in kind with an old-fashioned sweaty rock 'n roll show. Must mention one comment Jeff made in the encore when he complimented the Charlottesville crowd: "If this was the 70's," Jeff said in part, "we would overdub you and put you on our live album." Some more comments hopefully to follow at some point, but for now, here was the complete setlist, as played: Poor Places>Art Of AlmostI MightAt Least That's What You SaidSpiders (Kidsmoke) (acoustic arrangement)Impossible GermanyBorn Alone>Laminated Cat (aka Not For The Season) (electric arrangement)Capitol CityHandshake Drugs>Wishful ThinkingWhole LoveBox Full Of LettersPot Kettle BlackI'm Always In LoveHeavy Metal Drummer>I'm The Man Who Loves YouDawned On MeA Shot in the Arm--------------------------------Via ChicagoHate It HereCan't Stand ItCalifornia StarsHesitating BeautyMonday>Outtasite (Outta Mind)I'm A Wheel
Magnetized
How the hell do you do that so fast, bbop? Amazing.... That was just such a kickass show. All the guys looked so happy to be there and they were on fire all night. I was thrilled to get such a beautiful rendition of Wishful Thinking. And what a killer finish--Monday! Outtasite! I'm a Wheel! They are in a class all their own.
The Inside of Outside
Fantastic setlist. Love the encore, and Wishful Thinking, Capitol City, and Pot Kettle Black must have been a treat.

chriscolbert
What an amazing show! It hit me last night that it had been almost five years since seeing Wilco (after having a pretty good run of four years straight) and there's no way I can let that happen again. Personal highlights included Spiders, Laminated Cat, and Box Full of Letters (somehow I had never seen that before). I can't believe Jeff wore his suit all night. I felt 10 degrees hotter just looking at him. He joked that he has them throw a bucket of water on him at the beginning of the show so that he can pee his pants if he needs to because that's "what Ozzy does" (something to that effect). I was right behind a few fans that wrote "I'm a Wheel" on their paper fans to hold up and I would've sworn that was why they ended with it (Jeff looked in that direction quite a bit), but I scored a setlist after the show and sure enough, they already planned to end with it. One by One was listed on the setlist before California Stars but not played.
theunfoldingplan
Wow! That is such a great set list with so many of my favorites. I would love to hear Poor Places and Wishful Thinking in one show. Those songs are like cousins, not sure if it is due to similar tempos or becuase they both exist in similar spots on their respective albums in terms of order or just that they incorpoarate drones. smells like flowers
I was right behind a few fans that wrote "I'm a Wheel" on their paper fans to hold up and I would've sworn that was why they ended with it (Jeff looked in that direction quite a bit), but I scored a setlist after the show and sure enough, they already planned to end with it. That was my friends and me holding up the signs! What a fantastic show, and all the better that they closed it out with "I'm a Wheel"! Been waiting a while for that one to show up. The overall energy at the Charlottesville show was palpable. Starting with Lee Ranaldo and going through Wilco's fantastic set and amazing encore, it was just non-stop. We had a little extra excitement when a very inebriated woman stumbled around and nearly fell on us during "Monday." She then proceeded to pee on herself. Too much fun, indeed! We were so wired after the show that we decided to go around to the buses and see what would unfold. Ended up meeting John and getting an autograph. He was super nice and confirmed that the band really likes to play in Charlottesville and the audiences there rock out. I was impressed by how small the place was (capacity around 1,500, maybe?) after seeing them in much bigger venues. And the GA was so manageable -- we got in line maybe 10-15 mins before the gates opened and were as close as we wanted to be. In a state of utter Wilco bliss.... IRememberDBoon
it was a sing a long more than any other song it seemed to me. i love cville pavilion so much because you can show up whenever and walk down to the front row basically. never seen a bad show there. i think the capacity is more like 5000 though. It did feel totally small and was the best outdoor venue I've seen Wilco play. BTW, were you wearing a baseball style shirt with the word GHOST on the back?
jimtweedy1977
When I visited the Wilco website today, I noticed the picture on the homepage was from the Charlottesville show. I was way off in the right corner, up against the railing, so I didn't make the crowd pic Charles Harris took a lot of pictures that night; hopefully Wilco will share those with us soon. The staff there was friendly and not overbearing but they were following Wilco's guidelines of not taking photos in the venue to the T. I don't think the band would have minded people taking a picture of the stage setup. Fortunately, I had been following the conversation on the updated Wilco concert photo policy and certainly wanted to respect their wishes. Still it would have been nice to be able get some pictures being so up close and being on my home turf, so to speak. But I can imagine why they were getting stricter on the whole photo thing. After a while, it does get to be distracting and even though I enjoy taking pictures, I do feel removed from the whole experience of the concert. So it was nice to be able to put the phone away and just enjoy the concert for what it was. Still, it would be nice to see those Charles Harris c'ville pics.
jimtweedy1977
I listened to the recording today on the way home today and now I can step back and say without a doubt that it was a very snoozy show. yeah, that's right, I'm bringing snoozy back!

I feel quite sure it's not a synonym for sleepy! Splain, please. Funny, I found myself (my arm and part of my head) in the picture on the Wilcoworld site! Tried to set it as my backdrop but it won't let me. I'll be sad when that photo changes. What a phenomenal show! Some people standing close to me at the show got in trouble for taking pictures on their phones! Definitely amped up enforcement of that policy at C'ville.
jimtweedy1977
I'm intrigued by that word: snoozy. I feel quite sure it's not a synonym for sleepy! Splain, please. snoozy goes back to 2002/2003 I believe. It basically means a really rocking show.
