Atticus
Healthcare costs are already lowerhttp://www.americanprogress.org/issues/healthcare/report/2013/10/23/77537/the-affordable-care-acts-lower-than-projected-premiums-will-save-190-billion/ And single payer will never pass, nor will it ever be introduced. We have a government that can't even agree to pay the bills we have, let alone a new entitlement system. the federal government will save about $190 billion over the next 10 years, according to our estimates. Moreover, we estimate that lower premiums will lower the number of uninsured even further We estimate that a 16 percent reduction in premiums will lower the total cost of tax credits by about 21 percent. In the spring, CBO will update its baseline projection of the Affordable Care Act. I'm not sure you and I agree on what "already are" means. No one knows what the net impact is going to be on this process. It may be great. But your insistence that it's already doing wonders for the economy is just kinda silly. Guest Don Draper
Am I the only one who doesn't give a crap if the NSA is reading my texts and emails? Whenever I send something, um, romantic in nature to my ladyfriend, or when I'm recounting a humorous event, I always think "I hope my case manager enjoys this one." On that note, The Lives of Others is a Top 5 favorite movie for me.
John Smith
The problem with the NSA issue, among many is that the use of the information could be used for political reasons or say you have a big Donor who has a business competitor and gets payback in the form of hijacked information, things like that can be problematic. I still think it violates the unreasonable search issue and privacy issues to just dragnet the airwaves for potential leads.

Guest Don Draper
Oh, I'm aware of all of the constitutional issues with the NSA stuff, it's just that I really don't care. Other stuff, actual search in my home, for instance, would bother me. Mostly, I would hate to clean up after all of that. When I open my luggage and find a note from TSA that it was searched, I'm always kind of grateful because they fold my clothes much better than I do. My life is boring. I suppose it would bother me more if I were a counterculture hippie.
Guest Jules
Doesn't bother me at all either.

It may be great. But your insistence that it's already doing wonders for the economy is just kinda silly. I guess the same is true of others (not saying you in particular) saying it is going to hurt the economy and raise rates. The long term effect won't be know for times to come. In New York premimums look to be 50% lower BTW. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/17/health/health-plan-cost-for-new-yorkers-set-to-fall-50.html (yes I know this is from July and is hypothetical at this point) I also don't think I said it will do wonders for the economy and cure all of our ills, but I want to counter the point those who believe rates will rise because of ACA. And as a side note I would love to be the NSA guy in charge of reading this thread. He must be loving it.
Guest Don Draper
If premiums fell in July I don't know how that could be the result of the impact of legislation that took effect on October 1. Anticipation? Sure, but that can and will change as soon as the effects of the law become apparent.

Guest Don Draper
Hey, I always put the toilet seat down (which is certainly back on topic with regard to politics), but that's definitely my biggest contribution to the good in this world.
Beltmann
Other stuff, actual search in my home, for instance, would bother me. Mostly, I would hate to clean up after all of that. Every time I see such a search in a movie, that's always my first thought! Then again, I'm a tad OCD about staying organized.
Guest Don Draper
Geez, I saw a documentary/television thing years ago - all I remember is they kept interviewing "Officer Frank" - that showed the aftermath of a home search. Cushions and mattresses cut open, the fridge was empty (mind you, they were looking for a person - inside a couch cushion?), lamps broken. And they accidentally searched the house adjacent to the one for which they had the warrant. Shivers up my spine seeing a mess my Dyson can't handle.
IRememberDBoon
Regardless of whether health care costs go up or they even or go down The Right Wing will NEVER and I mean EVER admit it was ever anything less than a full on disaster. It kinda reminds me of when Al Gore cast the deciding vote on the budget rescission package in 93. Zero republican votes and Republicans said the world was going to end for absolute sure and when we had the greatest peacetime expansion they said it was left over from President Bush's policies or some such horsedung
LouieB
We have heard that the world is coming to an end so often regarding Obamacare and gay marriage, yet there is no such thing as climate change that can be connected to carbon dioxide produced by humans. KevinG
I feel like politics are going to take a really positive turn this week, generally. I think things are turning to a status quo. Still a general level of dysfunction, but not in the forefront as they have been in the last couple of weeks. I do think there will be some Benghazi talk coming up as it the one year anniversary. But you know, as horrible as the event was and there may have been failings in the security leading up to the event, there was no cover up after. I wish the GOP would just let that go. You know the GOP politically are really stupid. They remind me of a big league slugger who each time at the plate tries to hit a home run, but swings at bad pitches and ends up striking out. Case and point, Benghazi. It they would have focused on the security failings rather than the "cover up" politically they would have gotten more mileage. The same goes for the shutdown. All the media attention was focused on the GOP for the shutdown. If they would have funded the government all of the attention would have been on the ACA website disaster.
