Rodion
I know that this is a little after the show, but I have a propensity to look back (particular at shows that I never attended). Every time I listen to this show, I'm caught off guard by how different it is. If you haven't had a chance to listen to this one, you really should. The explanation that I've fabricated in my mind for this is that they were out partying hard the night before in DC and knew they were going to do it up again big with Johnny Cash the next night in NYC, so they decided to have a quiet acoustic evening with Wilco in Jersey. This was a year before BT got released, but you still have 5 tracks off of that album, and the most hauntingly beautiful version of The Long Cut that I've ever heard. If you've never heard them play The Long Cut live (the rock version at least), you owe it to yourself to get the 1997/2/15 show from Irving Plaza (the deli tray incident show) and listen to it. For a band that considers themselves a full-fledged rock bang these days, it's a shame they don't play it anymore, and apparently are continuing to ignore my repeated requests through their online submission form. Was anyone on this forum in attendance, because I would love to hear your first-hand experiences from this show. It's a shame that most of those shows from this period were lost due to the annals of time. Maybe I have them on tape somewhere in storage still. Favorite line from the show, right after he's played a couple songs solo: Jeff: "I'm happy to see you guys." Jeff: "I meant these guys." (referring to band) 1. Misunderstood 2. Gun 3. The Long Cut 4. Pick Up The Change 5. Forget The Flowers 6. New Madrid 7. Box Full Of Letters 8. That's Not The Issue 9. (Was I) In Your Dreams 10. It's Just That Simple 11. Childlike and Evergreen 12. Wait Up 13. Don't You Honey Me 14. Reincarnation 15. I Must Be High 16. Passenger Side 17. Casino Queen 18. If That's Alright 19. Acuff-Rose 20. Kingpin 21. Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down 22. Pecan Pie 23. Analogman
You can grab this show by way of the Owl and Bear-->Live Wilco Archive. I think we have around 25 or so shows from 1995 up there.
Magnetized
This show is also up at sooutoftune.org. I'm listening to it now. So nice!

Rodion
Yeah, 2/15/97 was my first Wilco show as well. It's a damn shame that there isn't a video of the whole show, because there were so many memorable moments. Did you ever look through the Reverb episode and see if you can find yourself in the crowd? I think I'm able too, but it ain't no HD image, that's for sure. So, I reiterate my question: does anyone know of any show so ... different. The only ones I can think of were some shows from late 2000, where they were would just Woody Guthrie song after Woody Guthrie song. Made for a very bizarre opener in my opinion. But they seemed to do that night after night, so it wasn't just a particular aberration, just Jeff and Jay being ... maybe drunk/lazy Jeff and Jay.

I did find my self in one screen shot where Jeff was crowd surfing. Magnetized
I just have to say, this was actually my first Wilco show (and a great one, even though I knew next to nothing)! Well, it obviously did the trick!
Rodion
That one isn't on owl & bear ... anyone have a clue on where to get it? Sadly, I was back at college at the time of that show, or else I would definitely have been there too.

Sadly, I was back at college at the time of that show, or else I would definitely have been there too. This was a little tricky, but if you go to the Wilco Base site and the page listing this concert, there is a link to the Owl & Bear download page for this show. I just finished downloading the songs and listening now - good concert! (SBD recording). Hope this isn't a violation of any of the rules, but here is a link to the O&B page:http://wilcoarchive.com/Wilco%2019951025/

I can see the back of my head in several shots. It confirms that I already had loads of gray hair before I was thirty. It was a different show. A rawk extravaganza, and rough around the edges. Great energy.
Rodion
It was a different show. A rawk extravaganza, and rough around the edges. Great energy. That's the major difference between JB Wilco and NC Wilco. Old Wilco was sloppy, rocked out, and improvised with musical genres. New Wilco is well oiled machine that has nearly perfected what they do. Depending on my mood, I like both. No offense to Nels, but I really hope there's some alternate dimension where Jeff and Jay (Bennett) figured out how to keep it together and TWL had Jay as lead guitarist. And while I'm coming up with alternate universes, how about one where Jeff and Jay (Farrar) figured out how to keep it together and Uncle Tupelo was still playing tiny dive bar gigs.
