Went to see Rock Show last night in the theater. It was great to see and sounded pretty good. The most striking thing to me (not having listened to Wings Over America in many years nor ever having seen the film) was how great a singer McCartney was at that stage of his career. I especially loved the gravelly, soulful roughness in his voice that he could seemingly pull out at will and then immediately slide back into sweet smoothness. Maybe it was the effects of being on tour or maybe not, because it wasn't like his voice was hoarse the whole time. It was the perfect amount of what he worked so hard to get his voice to do in the studio on Oh Darling. Call Me Back Again is great stuff with the horn section. Fantastic piano playing from Paul too on many tracks, like that one and Lady Madonna.

Also impressive was his bass playing while singing lead vocals. Silly Love Songs has that fantastic percolating, slightly funky groove, so tasty! Shaggy Joe English is fun to watch on drums, also. Jimmy McCulloch on a Gibson SG much of the night, I love that tone he gets. Beautiful solo on Maybe I'm Amazed.

This isn't from the film, but its similar.

Night #2 in Orlando:

McCartney replaced “Hope of Deliverance” with “I've Just Seen a Face” and “Get Back” with “I Saw Her Standing There.” Other than that, the rest of the setlist was unchanged. The two songs were the first changes he's made in the setlist in five shows.

A "New" track from McCartney for his next record. Sounds like 1967-era Beatles

Sounds more like Band On the Run-era Wings trying to evoke 67-era Beatles.

Nonetheless, it's a great sound and a helluva song. One of the best new things that I've heard from him in a long time.

High hopes.
