Phil A - Sing Along Until You Feel Better

Fucking brilliant album of pure Beatlesque pop songs that a friend of mine just released. Produced by Ken Stringfellow (Posies). Amazing backstory behind this one, too. I think I've shared it with you all before. But, now it's done, released, and goddamn good!

and then...

^^ I've been on a Mark Kozelek/Sun Kil Moon binge this week. Looking forward to the new one. I've been avoiding the MP3 versions floating around, gonna try and wait until my copy arrives.

What do you think?  Pitchfork sure liked it.  My copy is on its way and should arrive today.

So far, amazing.  Might be the best thing he has done.  Loving it.  Makes me wish I would have waited for the CD copy and some headphones instead of the MP3's I have.  Really interested to know what you think.

Sun Kil Moon - Benji

Mark has been my favorite contemporary artist ever since I first discovered Ghosts (and April around the same time).  AFP blew me away.  I pretty much enjoy whatever he does, and that mostly applies to this release as well.  Fav tracks are Ben's My Friend, Richard Ramirez, Carissa, and I Watched The Film.  Still, I will always be partial to AFP and songs like Young Love and Black Kite, as well as the live album releases.

My favorite Beck album.

I have the iPod on shuffle today. Two Uncle Tupelo songs came up back-to-back, the first being "I Wish My Baby Was Born," followed by "Postcard." It was a rather jarring transition, yet it reminded me of how well those guys could go from a hushed, haunting folk song to the raw power and energy of a punk tune -- and even blend the two in a single track.

Is that good?   I like the hit song and would be willing to pick that record up if the rest of it is good.

I like the single, too.

I found the album just to sort of float pleasantly on by. Didn't really grab me, but didn't offend either.

Wife likes it, though.

I'll probably check out a few more songs and see what I think before making a decision.  I kind of want to support just on principle for calling out all the shit I hate about rap.
