bböp
Well, the Wilco machine keeps on rolling through the Pacific Northwest. Just over 15 hours after walking off stage in Troutdale last night, the band was walking onto another stage to play an abbreviated acoustic set to benefit the Seattle radio station KEXP and its campaign to build a new home. The stage was the Columbia City Theater, a small clubbing space with a capacity of probably 250-300. It was a standing show, and Wilco played with the same stripped-down configuration it did at last week's all-acoustic show at the Independent in San Francisco with the exception of Mikael not having a piano. Pat sat on a stool at stage left and played both banjo (or banjitar, as it were) and glockenspiel. Little to no banter from Jeff, except to introduce the couple of songs from Star Wars by emphasizing that they were "from Star Wars" and thanking people for supporting KEXP. A nice selection of songs for an hour-long set, though. I'm sure a lot of people were probably expecting to hear more SW stuff, but I'm glad there was a wide swath. And of note: Jeff once again seemed to struggle with the lyrics to California Stars, of all things. I noticed when Jeff didn't sing the "They hang like grapes..." line the first time through (he sang the "I love to feel..." again). But then both Jeff and John got sidetracked somewhere the second time through and just sort of had to laugh off the rest of the verse. Here was the complete setlist, as played (note that the entire show was performed with the band on acoustic instruments): MisunderstoodRandom Name GeneratorThe Joke ExplainedI'm Always In LoveWar On WarBull Black NovaIt's Just That SimpleGive Back The Key To My Heart [Doug Sahm]A Shot in the ArmTrue Love Will Find You In The End [Daniel Johnston]We've Been Had---------------------------California Stars
linclink
KEXP usually does some great video... hoping we might get the whole show...but... if not, then maybe at least the acoustic versions of "Random Name Generator" & "The Joke Explained"... thanks so much for the great (as always) coverage!!! nalafej
Watching the show on KEXP's youtube channel. BBN is a major highlight!
Albert Tatlock
Watching the show on KEXP's youtube channel. BBN is a major highlight! Agreed. BBN (Battle of New Orleans version) is the first time I've actually enjoyed it. Especially at the Roundhouse once it was just an overly loud repetitive awful mess but in this stripped down version the lyrics thrust through powerfully.

The Inside of Outside
That version of Misunderstood is sublime.
Wendy
That version of Misunderstood is sublime. Yes! And I can never get enough of "I've Been Had" ... plus we never really get enough of John's "It's Just That Simple" so this was really a fun short set Kudos to Wilco for helping KEXP on their fundraising. Donating!
bböp
Yes! And I can never get enough of "I've Been Had" ...I don't know that one...just giving you a hard time.
Magnetized
I don't know that one...just giving you a hard time. I've Been Had = the story of Wendy's misspent youth.
Wendy
Doh! Obviously song titles are not my forte, don't even try to get me to list lyrics from memory! Hey, maybe it IS all related to some pretty grand "misspent" youth
