u2roolz
I'm not sure how many people here follow Steve Wynn on Facebook, but he just announced that they're releasing a new album in the 1st quarter of 2017. It'd be the band's first album since 1988's Ghost Stories. They were awesome at Solid Sound & we were all lucky for them to have been invited.

Steve Wynn says that the album title is still under wraps. The album will be released on September 8th (same day as The National's new one). Interesting interview. I wonder what marketing plans they have planned.

I'll have to check and see if it's an old venue that was renamed. It's an old ballroom (but also includes a restaurant and a smaller performing space) but I don't think it had rock shows until a few years ago. I've seen a bunch of shows there, including Robyn Hitchcock on his last time through town.

Last show I saw in Somerville was Ryan Adams and that was like 10 years ago.
u2roolz
I ventured out into Somerville on a somewhat warm early December night to find a venue that I have never been to to see The Dream Syndicate. I was lucky enough to find a parking spot right in front, but I was worried that it would be dead inside. I walked into Once Ballroom and really loved the space & place. There were chandeliers and mirrors on the walls. I headed to the restroom & when I came out the band walked right past me to the stage. These guys fucking rocked! They put on a blistering & sweaty set. Plus, the new songs all sounded great. I was surprised to find out that I could leave the venue, so I went outside and Richard Lloyd was taking some pics with fans. Sadly. I missed his set, but Steve Wynn said that it was a perfect set. I think Lloyd is only doing one more show with them & that's tonight in NYC @ Bowery Ballroom. Steve Wynn told the crowd to hang around for signings of albums etc. I spoke to him for a bit & he's one of the nicest guys in music that I've met. He was extremely gracious & appreciative. I told him that the first time that I had seen them was at Solid Sound 2013 and I was blown away. He knew that that was the first show on US soil in a long time. He said nice things about Jeff. Then I told him that I'm jealous that I was too young to see them open for both U2 & R.E.M. He recalled that they opened for U2 during the War tour in 83 & R.E.M. during the Reckoning tour in 84. He signed my cd of The Days Of Wine & Roses and he took a pic with me. The merch table was selling Live At Raji's on vinyl for $40. They also had the new album on vinyl. Here's the setlist. The main set has pretty much stayed the same. The encores have been several songs that get rotated around. They even went into a bit of Tom Petty's Refugee during Boston. u2roolz
The Dream Syndicate's Facebook page had a post earlier today saying that the next album is coming this April. The post featured Steve Wynn posing with producer John Agnello. The Dream Syndicate starts a co-headlining tour with Matthew Sweet this week out on the West Coast. u2roolz
The Dream Syndicate just added 5 dates in May on the East Coast. D.C., PA, NYC (2 shows) and Somerville, MA. http://www.thedreamsyndicate.com/summertime.php I saved an image with a blurb about their new album due in April. I'm going to look for that now. The image won't load probably because I'm on my iPhone. The album is due in May & called These Times.
Chez
I feel like this band would be in my wheel house. I love the Wynn side projects (e.g. Gutterball and The Baseball Project), but have never heard any Dream Syndicate. Where should I start? Days of Wine & Roses?

They only put out 4 records in the 80s & had one a few years ago. Plus, they put out a legendary live album: Live At Raji's. Here's another Steve Wynn side project: Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3. u2roolz
that live record was my intro to the band. killer set.Agreed! Thankful that it's on iTunes and Spotify. I think I've seen the vinyl once. Pretty sure it never got a proper disc release. Here's the music video for Black Light. Extremely different than the last record. Steve Wynn's vocals first brought to mind Underworld's Karl Hyde.
u2roolz
Someone was telling me that they were going to see Mott The Hoople tonight in Boston. I checked out the FB Event page and I was shocked to see The Dream Syndicate opening the show. I think this was a recent change. Either another band was supposed to open or they just made the announcement last week.
