HAPPY ELECTION DAY 2024!

Recommended Posts

As terrified and anxious as I know we all are, today I send out my love to all of VC, and my conviction that the United States is going to weather this storm and move beyond the lunacy and hatred. We ARE better than this!

Get out tomorrow, if you haven't already, and VOTE. Make your voice heard. Get your loved ones to a polling place too. Let them add their voices. :banana

When we all speak, we find out we are a good and decent country with a bright furure.

We don't need to follow a dark path. Let's go with joy instead. And science, and progress, and inclusion, for a start.

TRY NOT TO STRESS TOO MUCH TODAY. :wub

Voted when the polls opened at 6 am, today  -- even had a line, which was nice to see.

Heading straight to the pub after work and then will  be glued to the TV/news websites for the next 7 days or so...

Someone posted the lyrics on the Facebook fanpage.  They resonated for me.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wake up, we're here It's so much worse than we feared There's nothing left here Our country has disappeared

With the winter trees bleeding leaf red blood The the summer sweet dreaming, April blush But none of that is ever going to mean as much to me again

Hold out your hand There's so much we don't understand So stick as close as you can To all of your best laid plans

You've got the white clouds hanging so high above you You've got the helicopters dangling, angling to shoot The shots to feed the hungry weekend news crew anchormen

So every evening we can watch from above Crush the cities like a bug Fold ourselves into each other's guts Turn our faces up to the sun

I won't take no I won't let you go All by yourself I know you need my help

When the cold light shakes you like a chandelier The snowflakes break through the atmosphere And melt on the blue breath of the auctioneers and disappear

So every evening we can watch from above Crush the cities like a bug Fold ourselves into each other's blood Turn our faces up to the sun

The sadness is almost crippling. We could have been looking at such a bright, hopeful future, but instead, this. Existential dread.

Please, somebody, remove this cancer from our body politic before our country disintegrates.

Still trying to pick myself up and dust off. We have work ahead of us. Do it for Jimmy Carter.

I have a playlist called "The Year David Bowie Died". In 2016, we lost Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen, my mom to suicide, and the America I grew up in. This song is on that playlist. It resonates even stronger knowing that we lost the popular vote this time around.
