Recommended Posts

Below are the tabs/chords to a bunch of wilco songs - i am not responsible for any of them, as they were done by people that are much more musically inclined than myself - i have simply copied and saved them from other sources - i hope there is not a problem with me posting them, since they were all posted on the previous "version" of this message board.....Enjoy!!!

Open D - D A D F# A D (no capo)

The trickiest part is the strumming, which rapidly alternates hitting low and high strings. Use your thumb for the lower strings (low D A D) and index finger for the higher ones. Watch the footage of this song that's on the bonus DVD of I Am Trying to Break Your Heart to get an idea of how Jeff is playing it.

Here's an idea of what one measure of the intro might look like:

Bob Dylan's 49th beard

----------------------

Written by Jeff Tweedy

Tabbed by: pok

Lyrics : tmreno, JorgeFabrgas, Mr Browning

This tab is taken from the EP version.

Standard tuning, capo on 5th fret.

(On the "I am trying to break your heart" DVD and

normally live, he plays this capoed on the 2nd fret.)

Okay, first we'll cover the chord placings for the verses

The intro and outro are the same, except for the song fades

in part-way through it at the beginning. I'll do that after this.

The verses are simple. Just standard G - C - D chords. The tricky

part to this song is the strumming. Get that down and you've got

this one easily. Here's the chord placement:

(intro)

G

you'll be happier when i'm gone

C

but much too busy to worry

G

i'll be sad, and you'll feel bad

C D

but i know you wont be sorry

G

and as i turn to go

C

please don't wave goodbye

G

i refuse to cry on roads that are paved

C D

with men who behave

C D

like they know where they're goin

G

and i'll stop along the way

C

it's then i'll think of you

G

and i'll wonder if you knew

C D

when i got blue

C D

and things got weird

C D

and i started growin'

C D G

bob dylan's beard

(outro)

end.

Okay, now to tackle the very Tweedy intro/outro thing...

Keep the same strumming style as the rest of the song

throughout. I'm just going to tab out the prominent

notes (with the chord changes listed above), but make

sure to keep strumming the chords.

And don't take the spacing on this as an indication

of the rhythm, I'm way to lazy to space it properly.

***************

Intro - The song fades in basically on the first C

chord. Play through once. Start singing just as you

do the hammer-on to hit the G chord.

Outro - Start just after you say "..beard". Basically

go through the whole thing twice, but the part

underlined with asterisks (C to D back to C)

should be looped a couple times your second time

through. End with a nice G chord.

Also during the last verse, he does a little hammer-on

when changing from D back to C, like this....

...i got blue and things got weird....

C - - - -D - - - - - - - - - C - - - - - - - D - -

Okay, now you're on your own.

see Jeff himself play it.

Notes:

1. You can start off playing a simplified version with straight A, D, E and Bm chords. Once you get comfortable, work your way up to the Guitar God version.

2. In a similar fashion, the two quickly strummed chords that Jeff plays prior to a new measure can be left out until you're able to nail them.

Theologians

First, the Latin. This is my best stab at what JT's saying, but I don't know Latin so it's a blind stab at best. The first two words mean illiterate light which is a no-brainer since that's what he says later. The last word means "faith, trust or confidence" according to the first latin-english dictionary that came up on Google. Good enough for me. (Of course, any and all corrections are appreciated.)

This has a loose bluesy feel to it so feel free to deviate a little from the tab if it suits the song.

Drop D. No capo.

To make this a little easier I'll divide this into parts:

Part I-

From what I gather, this has only been played twice. The 1/06/03 version is played with guitar tuned one whole step down (DGCFAD) and pretty much the same as below, which was tabbed mostly off the 5/16/03 version.

Standard tuning, no capo.

Chords:

A - x02220

D2 - see below

Dm - x00231

Amaj7 - x02120

C#m - x46654

F#m - 244222

Bm - x24432

C - x32010

E - 022100

BarA - 577655

I was fooling around on my bass earlier tonight and happened to pick out the first bar for Ashes of American Flags, at least how it was done on the demo. Which is exactly how I prefer hearing it. I know the song alternates in octaves around these frets but I can't figure out the entire song. Can someone help me out?

First bar (?)

12th fret, second string; 12th fret third string; 9th fret third string; 9th fret first string (open)

Second Bar (?)

12th fret first string (open), 9th fret first string....and that's as far as I got. That's all without listening, just what I could remember from the tune.
