Ironic little discussion from yesterday. I really can't explain to you how upsetting the LoDuca/Gagne situation is to me. These were two guys that I always held in such high regard as the type of players that worked hard, overcame odds and hardships, played the game right, played the game hard, and worst of all, the type of guys you could hold up to the Giant's fans and say, "See. We have the good guys. You have Barry Bonds. HE cheats." Man do I feel like an idiot now. Game over indeed.

This kid is going to end up being a very wealthy and successful dentist. Sure, all the kids will mock him incessantly for having a dentist party when he was 7, but just wait until they find themselves in his chair years later. "Is it safe?" indeed.

This must be what it feels like at a public hanging, the chit-chat in the crowd as we wait for the condemned to climb the gallow's steps. in other random news, I'm just realizing that my desk here is lightly swarming with ants. Maybe time to snack less while VC'ing.

I can buy that. At that time for him not to know seems plausible. Besides, baseball players aren't really known for being the brainiacs of the sporting world.

Genius! That's the perfect cover! Get totally ripped on steroids, but hid all the muscles under an imense layer of blubber.

Hmm. Maybe the Viagra caused a false-positive test? It is a "performance enhancer." As for the list, Ismael Valdes? Really? He must have been getting some seriously lousy stuff because he was rather scrawny.

Mad scramble? Really? Wouldn't teams want to avoid any of those players like the plague? What if you sign, or worse yet, trade for (ie: Tejada) a big name and then have them suspended for half a season or more?

I wish the White Sox had gone after Jones, cuz after the Mitchell Report comes out... a few years ago he had 51 hrs, last year he hits .222 with 26 jacks, in a contract year. Mmmm hmmm. Something smells fishy here.

An admin lists SBS at #22? Yikes.

Now that's funny!

Where exactly do albums leak to? Is this on someone's blog or something?

You gotta know your audience, dude.

Oh please Oh please Oh please Oh please!! Please take him off our hands! I won't even make it a trade, we'll just give him to you. also Oh great, the Giants got Rowand. With any luck he won't be on the Mitchell Report and Andruw Jones will and we'll have to put up with their fans talking about cheaters.

No guilt here, I just laughed. Not about the heart attack, but the thread title. I appreciate good gallow's humor. Get better soon Alex!

Decided to give my album away for free

You musicians who just waltz in here and announce your shows and... and... aw, who am I kidding. I'm downloading it right now. After all the great reviews here I'm really looking forward to it. -
putting together the timeline of the world's best band

I can't really argue about this too much. I think you're right about Radiohead being the first Greatest Band of the 21st century. With that said, if both bands were to announce a tour where they would be in the same city on the same night, but whichever band sold the most tickets on their website would get to play and the other band had to sit it out, I bet 75% of the time U2 would win. I'd rather see Radiohead, but that's how it would go down. -

I guess in my own rambling way earlier I was trying to say that as of now U2 & Radiohead are tied/trading off. You take the title this year, we'll take it next year. Right now the title of biggest, best, most important and influential band in the world would have to be Radiohead. U2 has a new one in the works apparantly, so look for the title to switch back over to them soon. -

That's the part that probably needs a CAT scan. I'm guessing the "don't tase me bro!" guy is a Hootie fan. THAT would be justice! -
As a Dodgers fan, I have to tell you that a healthy, dominant Gagne is a sight to behold. He was pretty much the only thing holding us traffic-obsessed Angelenos in our seats after the 7th inning. Having him come out of the bullpen in the ninth with Welcome to the Jungle blasting away and "Game Over" flashing on the scoreboard... nothing quite like it.

Seconded

Yeah, I can dig it. It's weird how VC generally has such spot-on taste in tunes that I rarely go wrong with the consensus... except every once in a while there's one band that everyone loves and I just don't get why. Yeah, I'm looking at you Arcade Fire. You and your husky-voiced friend The National.

putting together the timeline of the world's best band
Mr. Kinsley replied to mastershake's topic in Someone Else's Song
I said 'currently.' Of course The Beatles still to this day are a more relevant and influential band than anyone else. Do I like Wilco better than either Radiohead? Of course. During my conversations that turn to music on any given day, if Wilco comes up people have no idea who I'm talking about. A good band doesn't equal cultural relevance. Bono has lunch regularly with Bill Clinton. He's been to the White House to strike a deal with W - I won't speak out about Iraq if you'll start working on problems in Africa more.* If the Super Bowl could choose the biggest band in the world and not worry -
I'd be surprised if there weren't players from every team named, come to think of it. I'm sure the usual suspects will get named: McGwire, Sosa, Palmiero, Giambi, Bonds. Who are the dark horses? He's my favorite on my favorite team, but judging from his sudden lack of production, Nomar sounds like a likely candidate. Honestly, until they can really clean house I can't help but think that everyone in a major league uniform is involved in some way. I'm sure there will be a considerable amount of faceless journeymen types, as well as up-and-coming minor league prospects. I wonder how it c
