  1. This is kind of a sticky area. Some little old ladies like my grandma in Omaha (who is barely able to squeak by) didn't really have the investing savvy to go beyond their husband's pension and soc sec/medicare type stuff, because at one point in time that would have been enough. Nowadays we know better and make the necessary investments like the IRAs and 401Ks that you mentioned, because that's all we'll need, right? Well, what if time moves on (like it always does) and things change in unforseen ways (like they always do) and our IRAs and 401Ks don't cover basic necessities when we're all 90?
  2. I remember this photo and a discussion just like this about it and all the others that were released back then.* Mikael was out due to illness/death in the family I THINK. Not totally sure on that, but there was some sort of very valid reason he missed it. And I'm not sure (since I've never been there) but that might have been in the Irving Plaza lobby before said 2004 show. *I'm too stinking lazy/technically lame to dig through the archive for the old thread.
  3. Hey, I'll take 'em!* Oh, and could you throw a couple of round trip plane tickets for LA in the envelope when you mail it? * For safety's sake, yes, I'm kidding.
  4. You're right. But it's the endorsement of death then.
  5. Count Your Blessings Trouble of All Kinds band and title worked well, but the photo fell short I'll try again later.
  6. Man. I need to get to the eye doctor, 'cuz I thought for a second there you were thinking of voting for Obama. Pretty funny, huh?
  7. A thought just occured to me - Nat was apparantly on several boards, delivered babies, traveled extensively to see friends and bands, befriended numerous people over the internet that she'd never met in person, not to mention knitting and creating aluminum foil sculptures to give away. In short, she did more in her brief time on this planet than most do in 100 years. It's OK to be sad for ourselves because we miss her, but I'm sure she would have few regrets. Her life was full and fulfilling. Can you deny, there's nothing greater Nothing more than the traveling hands of time? Sainte Geneviev
  8. Holy crap. I really wish this was just someone with a sick sense of humor, but... When I announced that my wife and I were having twins a couple of years back, St. G was so genuinely excited and offered to help in any on-line kind of way she could. This is really devestating. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who knew her best. If I feel this way having never met her I can just imagine how all of you in Portland and points beyond must feel. Hang in there all. PS - Is there any way to put up a different home page or banner header here with a memorial picture of her? I realize it m
  9. I hear you. I actually tried something like this in one of the top 10 threads a while back. I just made shit up off the top of my head and posted them as if they were my 10 favorite albums of all time. It got no comments which means either nobody noticed, they noticed and knew what I was up to and thought it too lame to comment, or they are still to this day searching for those long-lost uber-hipster albums. Sorry to digress. I'll play along with this game tomorrow. Carry on.
  10. I'm just shocked you didn't just substitute bacon for, well, anything that needed substituting.
  11. Sorry. I know I was the one who got all cranky about focusing on the topic, but I couldn't help it.
  12. Good point. I really wish there were some way to make polls illegal. It enhances the popularity contest portion of the whole situation. How many people don't even consider a candidate because of a low standing in the polls even though they would really like him/her if they thought said person had a chance? Maybe we should switch over to VoteMatch on OntheIssues.com. Try it and see who you'd vote for in a "blind taste test."
  13. Maybe, just maybe, since this is the '08 Election thread and the Iowa caucus is happening today we could re-focus ourselves on this year and not last go round. Just sayin'.
  14. C'mon everybody! Say it with me! "Thank you for another racist, hate-filled post!"
  15. Wow, she's gorgeous! I'd never heard of them so I looked up their website and, despite not being able to link them to here, there are more pics of her there. Nothing quite as overtly sexy as that golfer, but just very classy and pretty. Which I prefer actually. Also, listening to a few of the tunes on the site - they're pretty good! I may have to pick that album up.
  16. Hey Marijn, I don't think this thread is a good idea. Jeff hates soccer, and whenever he finds out that a country is really into soc... um, football, he stops playing shows there. You saw what happened to England.
  17. I couldn't be married to her because I would look perpetually dissatisfied.
  18. Poppydawn- Is this photo from Belleville? If so, I wonder if it's the building on the corner in photo #4 in your photoset. Maybe that was where their apt was and they went on the roof? The shadow coming from behind you in that shot indicates some larger building(s) right about where they would be in the old band shot.
  19. I've had the greatest hits CD for a while, as well as some live bootlegs. I just got March 16-20, 1992 for Christmas. And yeah, I came on board with YHF. If nobody new came along with each album they wouldn't be able to keep going. And no A-man, I'm not complaining about your comment. You're right about Wilco fans not knowing the old stuff. I'm like Senor Puddy - I worked backwards from YHF. It felt really weird by the time AGIB came out - a NEW Wilco album? That's not right!
  20. I'm guessing it was Lucinda Williams and they just didn't want to start a big fight with all the National fans, so they left it out hoping nobody would notice.
