  1. That sounds promising! Thanks as always for the recaps.
  2. Ha, I thought the same thing. I was surprised to see his name in the opening credits, and it made me listen intently throughout. Most of the time, I was wishing the interviewees would just shut up so I could hear the music! But yeah, I wondered if I could have guessed, or at least become curious, because the guitar was noticeably Tweedy-ish. The giveaway would have been when he played a few seconds of "Quiet Amplifier" about two-thirds of the way through.
  3. I was listening to the deluxe reissue of Being There yesterday, and it occurred to me that any of the bonus songs included on there, none of which have ever been played live to my knowledge, would be cool to hear: Late Blooming Son Dynamite My Soul Losing Interest Sun's a Star Better When I'm Gone Any of those would be interesting, but my vote would be for "Losing Interest" or "Sun's a Star."
  4. How crazy is that?! And of course it sounded amazing. Plus he segued into "In a Future Age" and a bit of "Pot Kettle Black," possibly my two favorite solo acoustic songs. Must be something about that tuning! I continue to be knocked out by the subtleties and nuances he performs on all these songs.
  5. Put me down for that one too. Along with: Chinese Apple I'll Never Know Leave Me Like You Found Me
  6. Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for posting all these recaps. I don't get to watch a lot of these, but it is great just to read about it even when I can't tune in. Much appreciated!
  7. I wonder what happened to this. I had been waiting all season for a Tweedy appearance on Curb, but the after last Sunday's finale, the season is over with zero Tweedy (there were a lot of other celeb cameos though). Maybe he filmed something that got cut? Maybe plans fell through? Oh well, it was a pretty good season in any case!
  8. On the one hand, I can imagine Wilco coming out with another album this year. On the other hand, Jeff has pretty much put out one album per year since 2014...
  9. As cool as it would be to get another Wilco album this year, I hadn't considered it remotely possible. Please tell me you know something I don't!
  10. Holy cow, those are some amazing setlists! I wish we got a bit more of this variety in Chicago last month, but still happy for everyone getting to enjoy this down in Mexico! Can't wait to hear what Night 3 has in store. Thanks for the reports!
  11. Been meaning to post my list. I thought 2019 was a very good year for new music! Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains Bruce Springsteen - Western Stars Mac DeMarco - Here Comes the Cowboy William Tyler - Goes West Sturgill Simpson - Sound & Fury Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow Jeff Tweedy - Warmer Kevin Morby - Oh My God Wilco - Ode to Joy Rodrigo y Gabriela - Metavolution Local Natives - Violet Street Josh Ritter - Fever Breaks Twin Peaks - Lookout Low White Denim - Side Effects Son Volt - Union Cate Le Bon - Reward The Who - Who
  12. Another fantastic show to end the run! Yes, more setlist variety would have been welcome, but getting "Monday" and "Spiders" was pretty special. I was the closest I've ever been for a Wilco show and wow, from up close you can really marvel at what Glenn does behind the kit. He is he hardest working man in the world back there. The complexity and subtlety he adds to every song is stunning. With some egging on -- that Glenn seemed to initiate himself! -- he stood on his chair to start ITMWLY, which is always fun. "Bull Black Nova" was just sublime again, though I wish I caught "Laminated Cat"
  13. It really does depend where you are in the theater, and who is around you. We had great seats last night, and I thought the show was amazing. But I just cannot understand the people who insist on holding their phone up to take selfies (and then look at them), record the band or send text messages constantly. You are 15 feet away from Wilco in the flesh giving a face-melting performance! Be in the moment! Personally, I don't think you should even be allowed to use your phone if you're in the first few rows. (Probably not popular or enforceable, I know.) Jeff and co. feed off of the energy up
  14. That is interesting. Glad everything worked out, but I wonder if there's any other info on this.
  15. I don't think the Chicago Theatre can ever compare to the good ol' days of the Riv. It's just never going to have the same vibe. But I like the Chicago Theatre overall, and think it's probably the best choice for where the band is these days. Stunningly beautiful, great acoustics, good views. I don't agree that the UIC Pavillion was better. In fact, I remember thinking Jeff didn't like that venue at all, and they haven't been back for 10 years.
  16. Not sure how many here are into him, but Josh Rouse put out a Christmas album of originals last month that I thought was pretty good.
  17. I was hoping for that, based largely on the glowing descriptions I've read here! Maybe it's in store for one of the next shows. I'm not able to go tonight, but hope to see it Wednesday or Thursday.
  18. Great show! This was my first time seeing the OTJ songs live and I thought they really sounded sharp, with some extra punch than the album versions. "Before Us" really jumped out at me. "Bull Black Nova" was amazing — the 1-2 punch of that one and "Random Name Generator" was the highlight of the night for me. The only negative thing I will say is the "toy" guitar Jeff uses on the OTJ songs sounds awful to me live. I wish he would use a different guitar from his arm of vintage acoustics. I understand it's place on the album, but in concert, alongside a pristine-sounding band, it just doesn't
  19. Bumping this to say I am really hoping "Art of Almost" makes an appearance at the Chicago Theatre residency this week!
  20. Wow, "I Might" — they haven't played that one in years! Thanks as always for these recaps bbop!
  21. I was thinking the same thing! In my dream scenario, they'd play three songs: 1. Something from AM with Jeff/John/Ken/Max/Brian 2. Something from YHF or AGIB with Jeff/John/Glenn/Leroy/Mike/special guest appearance by Jim O'Rourke 3. Impossible Germany with current lineup This leaves Bob out, and doesn't represent Being There or Summerteeth, so there are so many other permutations that would be interesting as well.
  22. So, Wilco Class of 2021?? I don't know if they'll get in on the first ballot, but I hope they do make it at some point. The RnR HoF itself is probably not a big deal to them, but it would be cool to see Jeff and John reconnect with some combination of Ken/Max/Bob/Leroy for a ceremony or performance.
