One year, my favorite team's closer seemed like a disaster. Every time he entered the game, I gritted my teeth, because it was extremely rare that he'd have a 1-2-3 inning -- he usually gave up a hit or two, maybe with a walk thrown in, and possibly some runs. He was my least favorite player on the team, and I frequently complained to a friend of mine that the team should just get rid of him. I think my hair started going gray that year, and he was probably part of the reason. The year: 1990 The team: Chicago White Sox The closer: Bobby Thigpen, who just happened to set the MLB record that

I think the new one is the first one she's put out since then. Yeah, T-Bone's guiding hand definitely boosts those records, but as you say, the songs were plenty good on their own.

She and T-Bone have been divorced for a while now.

I'm a fan. I particularly like the run of albums she had from The Indescribable Wow through Martinis & Bikinis. Good stuff. I saw her live when she toured for Fan Dance -- great show.

Is there an unusually high concentration of Purdue graduates around Saginaw Bay?

I saw them three times on my college campus. The third time they had been rented for one student's birthday party, and they played the basement lounge of what had been my freshman dorm. I believe this was not too long after the release of Hang Time. I also believe I'm still a little deaf from that show, nearly twenty years later.

So have Nickelback. What was your point, exactly?

Hanley will be gone soon enough. It's the Marlins, after all.

Wagner may miss all of 2009.

No one who worries about that does so "legitimately." It's either ignorance or bigotry, probably both.

Thanks for posting this, Lou. I so love Centro-matic.

Michigan should not have to struggle to beat Miami of Ohio. Their first drive was amazing; nothing that followed was.

What albums have you heard live in its entirety!

When I saw the Waters-less Pink Floyd in 1988 (or so), they did all of Delicate Sound of Thunder live. Last weekend, Squeeze played all of Singles 45s and Under during their show (not a studio album, however). Aside from those, I'm not sure I've seen a whole album played live. -
His toady police chief has announced her "retirement," as well. There will be others to follow, I suspect.

This may be a red herring, but do you run your cable through a VCR? I believe our VCR has a SAP feature, so if I have the VCR on and accidentally have SAP selected I'll hear stuff in Spanish even if my TV isn't on SAP.

OK, everyone stop feeding the troll now.

Typically, yes. However, there's nothing wrong with the three-word construction, particularly at the end of a sentence. The word "nonetheless" is merely a contraction of the three words that comprise it, nothing more.

view of Palin from a Wasilla resident From: http://www.washingtonindependent.com/3671/...eform-candidate Submitted by Michael Wrightson on Sept 1, 2008 A note to all by Anne Kilkenny Dear friends, So many people have asked me about what I know about Sarah Palin in the last 2 days that I decided to write something up . . . Basically, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have only 2 things in common: their gender and their good looks. You have my permission to forward this to your friends/email contacts with my name and email address attached, but please do not post it on any websites,

fact check Attacks, praise stretch truth at GOP convention By JIM KUHNHENN, Associated Press Writer Wed Sep 3, 11:48 PM ET ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth. Some examples: PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks bu

RIP. Those animated Peanuts specials were fixtures of my childhood.

It's a stupid "convo" to begin with. Either you like the music or you don't. Talk about it if you want, I won't stop you. I'm hardly a "defensive Wilco apologist." I've expressed my opinions about various Wilco songs, albums, shows, and other topics on this board for years, and some of those opinions have been pretty negative. I struggled for a good while with SBS before finally coming around to it. I am only now beginning to "get" AGIB. Etc. Pretty much.
