  1. ction's bound to grip his own parameters, if you know what I'm saying.
  2. I was hoping the Iggles would pull that game out last night, but only because I don't like the Cowboys. I know that it wound up not having a significant effect on the outcome of the game, but I just have to say: YOU'RE A FUCKING IDIOT, DESEAN JACKSON Amazingly, this isn't the first time he's done something this stupid (see sixth paragraph from the bottom).
  3. I hope your brother's OK. Also, I stand by my right to post a joke about hurricanes, which was originally posted by someone in the hurricane's path, prior to it making landfall.
  4. I live in the Detroit media market, so I hear him interviewed fairly regularly. The guy comes off as a major tool.
  5. At this point, I'm not too sure who Michigan will beat in the Big 11. I attempted to talk them up a bit before the season began (part foolhardy optimist, part hype-believing dupe), but I'm already set to sell them down the river for this year. Honestly, I don't see another guaranteed win for them this year. Toledo may be capable of taking them down.
  6. A. I can't stand Frank Caliendo. I used to not mind him, but now he's way overexposed and his talent doesn't quite measure up to his ubiquity. If I see his John Madden impression one more time, I may become violent. B. Thompson wasn't great as Barkley, true, but there were some good lines in that sketch.
  7. Huh. I thought this was the best episode I've seen in years. Among other things, they seem to have figured out that sketches can't go on and on and on and still be funny. The weaker sketches were also mercifully short (by comparison to prior years). I thought the Barkley thing had two or three of the funniest lines in the whole show. Yes, Phelps can't act, but they found interesting ways to use him. I've been really down on SNL in recent years and only watched this one because I wanted to see how much of a train wreck Phelps would be. Alaska Pete was definitely the weakest thing on th
  8. Actually, if you have any kind of downpayment, this might be the perfect time. Sounds like there's a confluence of low prices and low rates right now, and there should be plenty of inventory to choose from. If I thought we'd have much chance of getting back what we paid for our house (or more), I'd be thinking about putting it on the market and looking for an upgrade. Sadly, I doubt we'd be able to sell for $10K less than we paid right now, despite all the money we've put into the place in the last three years.
  9. I'd be interested in the answer to that question, though I suspect it's happened before. Three of those are merely conference games. Are they also playing Georgia and/or LSU this year?
  10. This is what happens when the government strips away layer after layer of regulation of the financial industry and the foxes gain more and more control over the hen house. I only wish it was easier to insulate myself from the crashing and burning of a bunch of greed-driven idiots whose gambles suddenly stopped paying off. I have a mortgage and a 401(k), and I'm a consumer, so there's really no way to avoid my own helping of the crunch. I know very little about the financial game, but to me it always seemed like a lot of those people were in it strictly for their own personal gain, not for
  11. I can't help it ... I just love seeing the Lions self-destruct like they did in the last seven minutes of the fourth quarter. I have no love for John Kitna, so I can't say I feel too sorry for him today. (Sorry, Lions fans.) My schadenfreude was considerably tempered, however, by how the Bears pissed away their lead yesterday.
  12. One of my favorite '90s bands, the Mommyheads, got back together this year and recorded a new album, which is now available: You're Not A Dream (also available on Amazon). Actually, only about half of the tracks on the record are newly recorded -- the others were recorded between 1993 and 1996 (and are previously unreleased, as far as I know). The new tracks sound great, though, and blend pretty seamlessly with the older stuff into a cohesive album. These guys never made much of a splash (despite being on a major label for their last album), so I don't expect a whole lot of enthusiastic re
  13. Oh, you were talking about me. People who know me know how genuinely concerned I've been for Galveston, Houston, and the whole Texas coast. If you can't make light of a bad situation (well before it even began, I might add), maybe you need to reexamine your own attitude. You don't know me at all, so you might want to think twice before you try to portray me as some kind of insensitive monster. edit: I should also point out that the humorous piece I posted was something I copied from the website of a resident of the Houston area.
  14. A no-hitter is a no-hitter, even if the "home" team isn't really home. I guess Z's rotator cuff must not hurt too badly.
  15. Hell no ... I'd probably be armed too.
  16. Couldn't we just have Texas play Miami to settle this? Texas would probably win, and the 'Canes would have to go back where they came from.
  17. That's not stopping people from calling for Sabathia to be the NL Cy Young (or MVP).
  18. A little hurricane humor I found on teh Interwebs: -------------------- Top 10 Reasons Hurricane Season is Like Christmas 10. Decorating the house (boarding up windows) 9. Dragging out boxes that haven't been used since last season (camping gear, flashlights) 8. Last minute shopping in crowded stores 7. Regular TV shows pre-empted for "specials" 6. Family coming to stay with you 5. Family and friends from out-of-state calling 4. Buying food you don't normally buy ... and in large quantities 3. Days off from work 2. Candles ...and the number one reason Hurricane Season i
  19. The great thing about college football is that anything can happen. I really doubt OSU will win, but I won't be too surprised if they do.
  20. I don't think OSU was going to win that game anyway, even with Wells at full strength. Of course, now we'll never know for sure ... unless they actually do win it.
