  1. I know -- all I'm saying is that if anyone's ballot included Stottlemyre or Knoblauch but not Rice, I've got a can opener and a ready supply of whoopass.
  2. I saw something about that a while back. I think it's part of their most recent version.
  3. Todd Stottlemyre got some votes? Chuck Knoblauch? If some fuckers voted for Stottlemyre or Knoblauch but not Rice, keeping Rice below the necessary 75%, I'm gonna have to administer a beating or two.
  4. Note to self: never play Scrabble with Whitty.
  5. I write off Hillary for one really sad, totally unfair reason: she is absolutely despised by a huge number of people on the "other side" of the political spectrum. Not just disliked, but outright hated. And as has been observed here already, many in her own party are no better than lukewarm about her. If she wins the nomination, she'll have an incredibly tough time getting elected. If she wins the White House, she'll have an even tougher time getting anything done (unless her party also wins large enough majorities in Congress, which could happen, but I'm not counting on it). I don't see m
  6. You obviously haven't been paying the slightest attention to anything I've posted.
  7. Thanks for another hate-filled post. It gives you nothing but a zip code. Get over yourself.
  8. So you think that merely living in D.C. gives you some kind of special knowledge about what's happening in the federal government? Whatever. I lived in Iowa for four years but that doesn't mean I know the first fucking thing about growing corn.
  9. The show is tolerable if you have the mute button ready for whenever Hogan, Ali, or a contestant speaks.
  10. ESPN Classic has episodes of the original series on this evening at 7 and 10 (EST). The new show is on from 8 to 9. Now I just have to figure out what I'm doing tonight between 9 and 10.
  11. Huh. I checked his Wikipedia page last night during a commercial break and that info wasn't there (yet). He's exactly the kind of cheeseball American Gladiators needs, but last night he wasn't his usual cheesy self. C'mon Van Earl, we know you've got it in ya... I hadn't known until I checked that page last night that he had been on channel 4 ... I recall him doing some work for the local Fox Sports franchise, which must have been after channel 4 (and right around the time we moved here). His sign-off from his Headline Sports segment was legendary ... for being ridiculous.
  12. Agreed. Also, they've hyped this "Hellga" character, but all she ended up doing was serving as the last line of defense during the "Gauntlet" event -- and not very well, either. Is it just me, or does the play-by-play dude sound like Van Earl Wright, who used to be one of the Headline News sports guys (early '90s)? I need to record the credits tonight to see if it's him (I bet it isn't, but the voice does sound similar).
  13. A real cheeseball delight. Yeah, they stole that rolling log from NW. Now they need the spider walk, or maybe the pipe slider. That guy was a knob. We decided he was Drew from The Office.
  14. Wow. I'm at a loss for words. I'd been happy to hear that she was moving back to Portland, because she seemed so excited to be returning. I don't know what to say, except that despite never having met her (but wait, she was from Ann Arbor ), I'll truly miss her.
  15. You might like Bourdain's show. It's kind of the opposite of a chef show -- rather than him cooking, he goes out and samples the fare in some pretty far-flung locations -- street food, local favorites, home cooking -- and though he does occasionally hobnob with an established chef, it doesn't happen very often. Plus, it's not on Food Network, but the Travel Channel -- which is appropriate, because in the end it's usually more about the adventure than the cuisine.
  16. Why is it so hard to spell "Socks"? As a White "Sox" fan, I probably shouldn't be asking that question.
  17. Well, first let's eliminate the handful who aren't even remotely close:
  18. The venue website indicates that all of the shows are indeed all-ages (click a show to verify).
  19. The Nilsson song I know best is one he covered (though it's sometimes mistakenly attributed to him), and it's one of my favorite songs of all time: "Everybody's Talkin'" Of course, I don't actually possess a copy of the Nilsson version ... just the Fred Neil original and three or four other cover versions.
  20. Well, you should definitely go to the Art Institute then. Their collection is among the world's finest. As for restaurants, if there are particular cuisines that interest you, mention them and I'm sure you'll get recommendations from the locals -- and they're likely to be a lot cheaper and better than the high-end places. For example, there's a great vegan Korean place way up on the northwest side...
  21. Our compatibility is "high." I thought of two different recommendations, but I'm not sure exactly why either of them came to mind. Oh well, maybe you'll enjoy them! John Cunningham The Chamber Strings http://www.last.fm/user/cryptique/
  22. If you're referring to the whole "Jesus and Satan are brothers" thing, his question is not an ignorant one. Here's a long essay on the subject.
  23. I've stayed at City Suites Hotel before ... it's right next to the Belmont el station, so travel throughout the city is easy (the Riv is a few stops further north on the same line). It's not the swankiest hotel in town, and some of the rooms are a bit small, but it's nicely maintained and was perfect for what we needed when we were there. Plus, in February the prices might still be pretty reasonable (they creep upwards as the weather improves).
