  1. Medium-rare is overrated. I'm a medium to medium-well man, myself.
  2. If that's the case, then there's no chance Petrino will bolt Arkansas for Ann Arbor. Housing prices up here suck -- even now.
  3. I guessed at Mandarin because my uncle (who lives in Berkeley) speaks it fluently and has taken us to places in Chinatown where there wasn't a word of English anywhere. I assumed he was speaking Mandarin, but I know that he also has a smattering of Cantonese.
  4. Don't follow the tourists. Eat where the locals eat. (It might help to speak Mandarin.)
  5. Neither is Michael Vick right now. Except for one hour a day.
  6. I dunno ... she's seen the Beatles, Springsteen, and Bob Marley -- I mean, I love Wilco, but come on...
  7. Sweet! That just goes to show that you can't believe everything you read on Wikipedia... OK, that clinches it -- I'm getting my ticket asap.
  8. Was wondering when you'd show up. Scooped you by a couple of hours on that one.
  9. Buy yourself a ticket, and watch this board for news of other VCers who are going to the show. It's a pretty safe bet that there will be VC other representation there, and they'll make you feel welcome. Enjoy!
  10. It's Evan-plus-anonymous-rhythm-section -- which is too bad, because his backing band on the latest Lemonheads release would have been wicked live (Bill Stevenson and Karl Alvarez, both of Descendents fame). Still, the new album is great, and it should be a good show.
  11. I'm hoping to go. Have you bought a ticket, or are you just showing up at the door? I'm thinking I might want to buy one in advance for this.
  12. ESPN is reporting that Bobby Petrino will resign from the Atlanta Falcons and take the head coaching job at Arkansas.
  13. From Wikipedia: There's probably no truth to the rumour that the new album will be called Chinese Democracy.
  14. If Charlie Watts played drums for all three acts, that might just work. John Paul Jones could take on bass duties for The Who, and maybe the Stones too. Maybe Townshend could play a little rhythm guitar for Led Zeppelin (or Jimmy could help Pete out a bit?). Yeah, I'd probably go see that.
  15. My guess is no. That's only a guess, though. I think Tweedy loves playing live with this lineup and wants to see what they can do with the back catalog.
  16. Yeah, that would be the bad thing about this. I seem to remember something being mentioned back around the time of the ticket lottery about the tickets being non-transferable, but that may not have been sufficiently emphasized by the concert organizers ... if you're going to have such a strict policy, people need to know about it. On the other hand, maybe they did their best to get the word out ... it's not like I was paying attention.
  17. I can't see that video at work, but my understanding was that you needed to present ID and a receipt to prove you were the original purchaser of the tickets -- if you couldn't, you were shit out of luck.
  18. "Sex as a Weapon" by Pat Benatar. Haven't thought about this one in ages, but it was truly cringeworthy. Also: "Total Eclipse of the Heart," and pretty much anything else Bonnie Tyler ever did "It's a Heartache," "Holding Out For a Hero," etc.).
