I pared this down very quickly from all of the officially released material (though I didn't take anything from Live at the BBC). It clocks in at 79:50 (on Winamp, anyway), and it's very much geared to my own taste, but now that I've figured out this list I'm probably going to have to burn a copy of it for myself. I haven't sequenced it yet, so this is probably in alphabetical order by the albums the various tracks come from. I'd probably move back if I could find a decent job there. I love that town ... though I suppose that might be mere nostalgia for nearly thirty years' worth of memories there. -

It's called Oberon now. -
That's my #2 album of the year.

Ooh, need to try that. My all-time favorite is Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout. Also yummy: Bell's Double Cream Stout. -
I wonder if they're selling them on spec, knowing that they'll bag a bunch when the tickets actually go on sale.

Isn't the 9:30 a general admission venue? Why would anyone pay inflated prices for a GA ticket, unless the show was already sold out?

OK, this isn't specifically Christmas-y, but the timing of it almost makes it so: link

From the thread title, I was really hoping your band was named "Yeah Whatever."

Washington Nationals New Stadium
cryptique replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
As has already been pointed out, the Washington Nationals name has some history behind it. So does "Houston Texans." There was a short-lived team by that name in the 1970s (in a different pro league, though). No, there are far worse names out there in the sports world, though Anaheim recently shortened their hockey team's name to "Ducks" from "Mighty Ducks," which takes them out of the running. "Utah Jazz" is a strong candidate ... the name made sense when the team was located in New Orleans, but doesn't now. Of course, neither does "Los Angeles Lakers," for the same reason. See also: "M -
You're ranting about money and cashing in, but Led Zeppelin did this show for free, and in fact donated hundreds of thousands of pounds of their own on top of their time and effort to the charity. Now it looks quite unlikely that a tour will happen, so they're not cashing in there, either. And yet, you acknowledged that it was a charity show in your second sentence. What, then, is your complaint? That they played at all? Are you saying that aging musicians aren't supposed to play any more? Or are you just someone who never liked Led Zeppelin in the first place?

Raise your hand if you're the least bit surprised by this.

Huh. To me, the most interesting part of that article is this: All of this is starting to fill in the gaps for me as to why Rodriguez would leave the program that he built up to be one of the most successful in the nation (and which is also his alma mater) to come to Ann Arbor.

There's at least one band with that name already.

Aren't they technically "commonwealth" schools?

I bought something last night that might start a whole new tradition: 30-minute DVD includes a "The Making of" feature, plus outtakes.

The Lemonheads, Blind Pig, Ann Arbor, December 15

So by now this should be in the After The Show section, but because we already have an active thread... Did anyone happen to write down a setlist from Saturday night? I just threw together a quick list of what I *think* was played, but I'm hoping someone can add the things I missed and maybe scratch one or two tracks that I mistakenly included. Lucinda Williams probably released the worst album of her career this year, while The National definitely released one of the best albums of the year.

How does one do that literally?

There's a cheesy cassette tape that my brother and I have been passing back and forth for a while now, but not as a part of any gift exchange -- just as an ongoing prank between brothers. Unfortunately, I think I lost it the last time he stuck me with it -- but now that I'm thinking about it, I need to look a couple of places tonight to see if I can find it. That really needs to go back to him this Christmas. The typical scenario for trading it back and forth involves one of us finding it at the bottom of a piece of luggage after returning from a visit to the other's place. We haven't live
