  1. I'm cautiously optimistic about the Rodriguez hire. However, I can't help feeling a little bad that Michigan has now cherrypicked both of West Virginia's major-sport head coaches. They must have some pretty icy feelings toward Ann Arbor down in Morgantown these days.
  2. Depends on the size of the show. I was at a very small club last night, and yeah, that's better as a standing venue -- it wouldn't make sense as a seated place. At any show that has seats, however, I always prefer to sit. If I'm lucky, no one will be standing up in front of me, so I'll be able to remain seated through the show. If this makes me boring ... well, I really don't care what anyone else thinks. I like what I like.
  3. They were terrific, though they played a very short set (approx. 50 minutes). However, I'd say they got through at least 20 songs in that time. Dando still sounds great vocally. His guitar playing wasn't fantastic, but it was adequate. Stevenson and Alvarez certainly held up their end. One of their openers (I only saw one) was a band from the Netherlands called Raccoon, and I thought they were pretty good.
  4. You've seen this already? The New Yorker had a stunning review of it ... and they hate everything -- for praise to be so liberally heaped upon a film is quite odd in those pages.
  5. Damn ... the Chicago shows are in the middle of the week. I'd think about coming over to one if it was a Saturday night.
  6. This might be too late to catch people heading out the door, but I'll be the really large guy who needs a haircut, in the black T-shirt with the big red star on the front (it's a Mozilla shirt). I probably won't show up until closer to 11. Feel free to say hi. I'm a weird shy sort, so please don't be offended if I'm not all that talkative. Plus, I don't hear convesation real well in loud rooms, so it can be a bit of a struggle to talk to me anyway. I just hope Evan & co. don't get snowed in here tonight. We're supposedly getting nine to twelve inches.
  7. I'm really looking forward to There Will Be Blood. Sounds fantastic. I don't know if it'll be released where I am until early 2008, however (it has a limited release on December 26, probably so it can get in on this year's Oscars).
  8. I'm afraid you may be too late.
  9. I'm giving Thomas the benefit of the doubt. He was outspoken against performance-enhancing drugs from early on and has advocated testing since at least 1995, and while that's proof of nothing (hello Palmeiro), he's one of those guys who worked hard enough to have that physique naturally. I mean, the guy played football at Auburn -- he was well-acquainted with the weight room long before he hit the major leagues. It's easy to just assume that a guy built like Thomas was on the juice, and I may yet be proven wrong about him, but I'll continue to believe he was drug-free until I see hard eviden
  10. Meet your new American Gladiators. Cod, I can't wait.
  11. Damn, the video no longer exists on YouTube. It was Glenallen Hill hitting a home run onto the roof of a building across the street from Wrigley Field. Mind-blowing ... and probably also chemically assisted. edit: found it elsewhere. It wasn't the shoes.
  12. I've got golden "globes," but I thought it'd be bragging to start a thread about them.

    9:30 !

Thanks for the heads-up ... I'm going to start trying to con my brother in the D.C. area into going to his Wilco show, because I'm pretty sure he'd dig it.
  14. And to think that all this time, people thought that Mike Piazza was the ghey Dodgers/Marlins/Mets catcher.
  15. Whoever created this PDF couldn't be bothered to add bookmarks, or links to the table of contents? Jesus. Easiest fucking thing in the world. Not surprised to see Glenallen Hill's name mentioned. Exhibit A I hope that link works ... can't see YouTube at work, but I know that particular video well.
  16. Juan Gone musta been extra juiced, for his name to appear twice.
