  1. I'm no better at Hold 'Em than any other poker game. I just think it's a shitty game. There are probably at least twenty games I'd rather play before Hold 'Em.
  2. The casinos have pushed Texas Hold 'Em on us because the game maximizes the number of players you can pack around a table (because each player only gets three cards, far more players can participate). But it's a shitty game, as poker games go. I hope to someday have a regular poker group again, like I had years ago. We'll ban Texas Hold 'Em altogether, and strongly discourage wild cards.
  3. Texas Hold 'Em sucks anyway. It bothers me that a lot of people think that's poker ... like there aren't any other poker games.
  4. A. Fucking. Men. ESPN and ESPN2 show a LOT of crap in time slots that could be better used showing Australian Rules.
  5. Heh. Are you an Achewood fan? Awesome. I thought this sounded familiar -- thanks for linking back to that post. If I get to Toronto anytime soon, I'll definitely stop in.
  6. link T-Bone Wolk Dies From Heart Attack by Paul Cashmere - March 1 2010 Bass player Tom "T-Bone" Wolk, best known for his work with Hall and Oates, died Saturday from a heart attack at age 58. T-Bone Wolk was a regular in the Saturday Night Live band and has worked with Billy Joel, Carly Simon, Bette Midler, Laurie Anderson, Robert Palmer, Elvis Costello and Shawn Colvin over the years. Australians familiar with Jimmy Barnes' 'Freight Train Heart' album still hear his work on radio. As a producer, Wolk produced the 1991 Willie Nile album 'Places I Have Never Been'. More recently,
  7. I wish it was The Ark. It's the Michigan Theater, which is a pretty sizable room. There's an opening band called The 88s. Checked out some of their stuff online ... they sound respectable.
  8. I may have mentioned this here before, but I'm going to see Ray Davies in a week and a half. He's playing an "acoustic duo" show with Bill Shanley. I'd prefer a full-band show (or better yet, a Kinks show), but I think this is the first time I've had a chance to see him (honestly don't remember him playing anywhere near me, ever), and I figured I couldn't miss it. Anyone seen him on this current tour? He's played a couple of NY/NJ dates so far.
  9. Y'all ain't got no Honey Nut? (Shirts on Zazzle.com, you'll also find the onesie there.)
  10. Meh, it was probably my post. And that's OK. But I won't ever apologize to someone merely for disagreeing with them. Nor would I expect anyone to, for disagreeing with me. I understand why some people think this whale should now be euthanized. I might have thought that myself years ago.
  11. To investigate is silly. If the IOC doesn't want alcohol and cigars to be part of the public celebrations following a gold medal, they should simply add that to their rules and move on. The Canadian women got away with it, and now, if they choose to, the IOC can say that no one else will. End of story. What's the investigation going to look at? Whether they got a good price on their cases of beer? Whether their cigars had proper tax stamps? Who gives a fuck?
  12. Very sad. "Jam On It" loomed large in my high school years. He was only 47. link to BoingBoing post
  13. I might find myself there too, for the first or second day. My brother's bringing my niece to Michigan for that weekend and she has recently expressed some enthusiasm for curling. We might grab some G.A. tickets and hang out for an early draw.
  14. This country needs to be more like Denmark.
  15. The whale probably should be retired from performing, but to euthanize it misses the point. Most animals don't deal well with captivity. When you put an animal in a cage, or a small aquarium, or a tiny "habitat," you put an enormous amount of stress on that animal. No one should ever be surprised when a captive wild animal lashes out. We should stop exploiting animals for entertainment. I support the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee because they seek to pull elephants out of circuses, zoos, and other inappropriate environments, and give them the best, most normal existence possible. Technical
  16. There are better places to keep land animals than zoos, however. See my signature for one such place (female elephants only). Here's another.
  17. I imagine ZZ Top can still blow the doors off. Never had a chance to see them, but would love to. Is there any other band out there that's been going as long as them with the original lineup? All the openers look good. Would love to see Joe Cocker too.
  18. My city has a team. I think it's just a club -- nobody's making any money, and they don't sell tickets -- but I've gone to see them play a couple times against teams from other cities in the area.
  19. Another view of the Michigan situation (see below) Also see this link, to a piece written last August. Hmmm. Relax, Michigan Football Fans: The Only Scandal Brewing is at the Free Press by Bryan Kelly Senior Analyst Written on February 23, 2010 It's days like today that make me ashamed to be a sportswriter. No more than a handful of outlets in the Michigan or national media are taking the time to separate the allegations against the Michigan football program—which are serious—from the university's actual findings— which are not. Few mainstream Michigan sports outlets (save for Ri
  20. I'll have to search this out online. Love Stephen Fry.
  21. developing story My guess is that Michigan escapes this mostly unscathed, but I could be wrong. Nice pickle for the new athletic director to walk into (he's not even officially on the job yet). Michigan football program faces 5 NCAA violations, university has 90 days to respond Michigan’s storied football program faces possible NCAA sanctions after an investigation revealed five potential major rules violations concerning in- and out-of-season practice time. The university has 90 days to file a response, and is expected to go before the NCAA Committee on Infractions in August. "I wan
  22. Maybe they're announcing that Stan Lynch ran out of cash and is re-joining the band, so they'll be touring with the original '70s lineup.
