So, nobody eats at Quad any more? Did I hear right? I have to get my butt back on campus so I can properly object to all the changes that have occurred. ...though I'm disappointed that you used "it's" correctly.

OMG ME TOO!!!!1!1!! I'm editing a draft of a document that was written by someone who can barely construct a sentence. Well, "editing" isn't quite accurate ... "tearing completely apart and re-writing from scratch" is closer to the mark. I've been doing this kind of stuff for a long time but I still can't quite understand how people can graduate from college and write this poorly.

As workers, we get screwed on wages, we get screwed on benefits, and we get screwed on mortgages. (And on lots of other stuff I haven't mentioned.) We're in a 30-year fixed mortgage, and I'm beginning to feel really fortunate that we made that decision. I have a friend who's recently unemployed, having a tough time finding a new job, and in an ARM that's about to reset. I wish I knew how to help him.

I can't do YouTube at work, but I'm really hoping that's a Gil Scott-Heron video.

My girlfriend loves 'em. They sounded OK to me but I didn't investigate any further.

Every once in a while, completely by accident, I manage to put on the perfect album for how I'm feeling at a particular moment on a particular day. This ended up being just what I needed this morning.

I see we're still talking about skunks.

Yeah, ours are whiter than I would have expected. More "white with black" than "black with white." I usually only see one at a time, though occasionally there have been two (and they sometimes fight).

I would do that, but it's an old car that I'm not likely to drive for more than another year (hopefully less), and replacing the stereo would involve the installation of some kind of additional bracket that would push the cost up over $200 or more. That's what Circuit City told me five years ago when I bought the car. The next car will definitely have that input jack.

We have skunks. They're gorgeous. I guess I should be worried that skunks like our back yard so much, but they're the most beautiful animals ... I can't bear to chase them away. They only seem to come out after dark, so I think we're OK just leaving them alone.

This is an interesting article, somewhat related to this thread.

My brother got them, so my parents put us together so I'd get them too. Sometimes that "sharing" crap gets a little weird.

He was playing against some odds that were likely to catch up with him eventually. If you put yourself in mortal danger as regularly as he did, your luck will probably run out sometime. That said, I always enjoyed watching his show, though I was never a regular viewer. His enthusiasm was certainly infectious, and it was obvious how much he cared about wildlife and the environment. Definitely a good guy and a great loss.

I didn't think we'd ever be able to afford a house in Ann Arbor (while it ain't Chicago, it's about as expensive as Michigan gets), but we saved our money and finally did it. For us, a lot of it was getting rid of other debt and becoming the kind of people who save up for stuff rather than putting it on credit cards -- the way people did it in the old days. Credit cards are a disease. Oh, and having realistic ideas about the kind of house we could afford helped, too. Our loan guy approved us for houses almost twice as expensive as what ended up buying. Just because they say you can buy that

My Firefox has been crashing left and right, to the point where it was basically unusable. I read through a bunch of suggestions for things to try, many of which I'd already done. One that seems to have worked (so far): rename firefox.exe to firefox1.exe. The fact that this works seems to suggest that I have malware on my PC that's designed to fuck with Firefox.

Even though it isn't, that reads like a haiku. This morning: slept in after my second concert in two days. I'm getting too old for this shit. They were two great shows, though (CSNY & Steely Dan). Bacon/eggs/english muffin/butter sure sounds good.

Happy birthday!

What a great show that was. I was there with VCer Wendy and her brother. It was basically a greatest hits show, because they weren't promoting a new album -- which was perfectly fine with me. They had a terrific band, as would be expected. Twelve people on stage. The drummer, Keith Carlock, was amazing (and is something of a Glenn clone, at least from a distance). Anyone else go -- to this show or any of the others from this tour?

I wasn't all that impressed with the album, but the live versions of several of the songs featuring CSN harmonies were a different story.

Jon Papelbon is the best baseball thread ever

Christ, don't you people ever sleep? A2 is lovely right about now. But that's the weather. Yes, the morons are back, and they've infested the area as they do each fall. Those glorious summer days of minimal student population have elapsed for the year. ...and today's the first U-M home game. I live a mile west of the stadium and was awakened half an hour ago by slamming car doors as some friends of my neighbors showed up for tailgating. The banner-trailing planes are already circling overhead.
