  1. Hey, me too! No, just kidding -- I was REALLY hoping for "Kicking Television" (and "Let's Not..." + "Good Part", among those within reason), but strangely it was overlooked! Would've been great in the final night's encore, too. Oh well, a very minor complaint from a legendary week of shows!
  2. I echo the sentiments of all preceding statements! The third night, "Hate it Here" finally found its horn groove and it blew my mind right out. That's just one example, but pretty much any song y'all touched was enhanced for the better. Fantastic work!
  3. I'm coming in alone from British Columbia for all 5 shows, staying at the "Rock and Roll" Days Inn and pretty much the only thing I've pencilled in for non-Wilco activity is going to see the polar bear at the zoo, wahoo! It would be very nice to meet some good people to make the non-Wilco hours a little less dull.. I'm also hoping to find a guitar shop to rent a hotel guitar for the week, exercise some creativity while going thru internet withdrawals...
  4. not a sonic youth tuning. think more like F#F#F#F#EB, GGDDD#D#, EG#EG#EG#, GABDEG, etc for them. what's so 'crazy' about F#ADF#AE ? looks like an open D w/ an F# on the bottom and an E on top instead of D. tunings altered by 3 notes don't seem so crazy to me
  5. Wow, thank you everybody, LouieB in particular -- I definitely had no desire to stay anywhere seedy and was only interested in staying within the area for convenience, but not at the cost of safety. I've spent about 6 hours of my life in the Chicago bus depot area and it definitely left an impression on me...I've travelled a lot, I'm sure I'll adapt after the first night. I booked the week @ the Day's Inn, thanks for the suggestions, all! I'm so excited about this, it's unbelievable...
  6. Sorry to cover old ground but I've been searching and searching online and it seems like most hotels close to the Riv don't actually have websites online where you can book (which is probably a sign...), so I'd really like to know if somebody could tell me: - where is a relatively affordable ($70-100 a night) place to stay either within a 5-minute cab ride from the Riv, or on some type of foreigner-friendly public transit route that will be running after the show? - any comments on the closest listed hotels: Aragon Arms Hotel, Darlington Hotel, Lorali Hotel, Northmere the SRO Hotel, and W
  7. "Pity" is probably ridiculous, but I'd definitely take this line-up of the band over any other, without hesitation, especially in a live context. Oh, here's a distorted blurry snippet of 'Too Far Apart'. http://www.sendspace.com/file/wwwd2t
  8. the saskatoon berry bit was a callback to edmonton, if i recall correctly... and yes, this was a phenomenal show! i was skeptical about the outdoor environment, but the place is SMALL and the sound was GREAT. nels was on fire, dancing around, disappearing off into mike's corner sometimes... his hot licks on the 'being there' encore was too much for even jeff to take, he forgot the lyrics to the last verse of monday due to sheer awe... i was pleasantly surprised they gave 'hummingbird' a rest for one night, 'always in love' to close the first set was super high energy fun, and then that fir
  9. yup, and they sounded phenomenal in calgary & edmonton. i'm selfishly hoping for a little more set list variety (4 songs between nights there, in identical theatres!), and i really want 'shake it off' and even 'what light'! i think i'll enjoy the outdoor aspect, even if it rains, though i'm not sure which ferry i'm catching etc yet, so i wonder about getting stuck on the lawn... regardless, hope everyone has a great time! i'm very excited.
  10. i think no news is good news, in this case. or at least i hope so, cuz i'm catching a plane in 2 hours.
  11. wouldn't have made a difference at the orpheum.
  12. well how bout that! i wonder why they picked those 2 cities... but the shows there last year were great, so i'm hoping for another pair of killer gigs! and i don't even have to worry if anybody's taping!
  13. howdy folks! w/ the show rapidly approaching i was hoping somebody could recommend somewhere to stay in the immediate area, and possibly a wise method of transportation ... as i may have mentioned earlier, i'm used to just bussing to the hotel vancouver @ robson/burrard + staying somewhere along granville (for orpheum/commodore/vogue etc gigs). is it feasible to stay in this area for the malkin bowl show or is it way outta the way? i'm pretty comfortable w/ the skytrain and whatnot, if need be. advice, anyone? (the frog has nothing to do with anything, but seemed amusing to me at the time)
  14. yeh, i know. just found it interesting that M5's own website has a show at the same city/venue on the same date as wilco ...
  15. Innnntteeresting. I wonder if they'll play in "Seattle" too? Or..or...Vancouver? Hooooweeever, Pollstar has them in Troutdale on that night, but at Blackberry Hall instead?
  16. i had the same sort of issue w/ this album.. bought it for the 'wilco' aspect, was frightened by scott, and put it on the shelf. revisited it recently and once i really started to listen, i could not stop. just one amazing song after another, and once i accepted that it wasn't a 'wilco record' (ie: jeff on lead vocals), it became one of my favorite albums of recent rediscovery. "the gun album", the minus 5's self-titled release from last year, is also phenomenal, possibly better than 'down w. wilco'.
  17. Thanks for the info, Dreamin'!
  18. That's kind of disappointing, I was happy that Wilco's western Canada gigs seemed to be at reasonable venues. I wasn't crazy about the Orpheum, but being able to stay on Granville and walk 2 blocks to the gig is preferable to...well, whatever lies ahead. It's bad enough that the "Seattle" show is in a huge field outta town, same w/ Portland...looks like I'll do Calgary/Edmonton/Vancouver and not bother w/ the US gigs at all. But on the plus side...yay Wilco!
  19. interesting! I'd like to see them in a different venue than the orpheum, myself. but not something like thunderbird stadium! i find the other pacific northwest venues frustrating... i was mostly replying to ask whether the november '04 vancouver gig ever surfaced, audio-wise?
  20. Howdy folks...I may as well ask this here. I was pretty surprised to find that my YHF vinyl actually had a 'real' ending for Pot Kettle Black, where-as the CD fades and goes into Poor Places. This is probably reason enough to own the vinyl, but is there another difference that anyone is aware of? I seem to recall noticing something else, but have forgotten now...maybe on Ashes?
