  1. a website for a vintage record sounds plugin for ProTools. Izotope is going to get a wealth of my Saturday's attention. P.S. Interesting thread topic!
  2. I quick look at ebay seemed to reveal that it would be around $100 or so. Granted, it might not be what you're looking for...I'm not a record collector so I don't know.
  3. Thanks for the input. I'm working my way (from the BOTTOM) into the music writing industry and wanted to get an idea as to what direction publications were going these days. I will check out Magnet, Fader and Filter. Beyonce, hmmm...speaks for itself.
  4. How's Guitar World Acoustic? I also wouldn't mind any suggestions on other music magazine with reviews and what not. Is Spin good? I don't want anything too MTV-ish, rather something that covers stuff that is not entirely mainstream.
  5. Thanks for the advice. How long do tubes typically last with 5-10hrs of playing per week? Is there a good way to know when one has died? I imagine the sound would be different, but I don't think I'd know that a tube gone bad was the diagnosis.
  6. Obviously NOT ME because I clearly cannot spell genius
  7. Solid gold my friend, solid gold.
  8. Yes, Bolivar...Genious is a term I would use to describe the writing of this album. I heard Brian Wilson would stay in some upstairs room in (his) house and come down and have other members of the Beach Boys record parts with him. I believe it was also during these sessions the he said he would take acid to speak with God, or something along those lines. Not sure if those details are correct, but either way it is a fantastic piece of music.
  9. I just bought a 40 watt tube amp over its 15 watt little brother essentially because I wanted 2 channels, and I must say that it is pretty damn loud on 1 or 2 on the volume knob. I think perhaps I would have been a bit wiser in getting a Blues Jr, as I am using the amp almost exclusively for recording. (sigh) So, if you got a 5 watt tube amp you could crank the hell out of it and get some great overdrive, something that seems to not be achievable with a higher watt amp unless you would like to lose your hearing or purchase an overdrive pedal.
  10. As the guitarist giggled while looking at his $8000 of new gear...
  11. Good advice on the warmup. I read my amp's manual and it said to leave it on standby for a minute before turning the power on. I guess letting it warm up longer is better (?). I also noticed that I have to turn it up LOUD to get any drive, so I think an overdrive pedal is in order. Better that than not having a place to sleep at night! After having my amp on and playing thorugh it for an hour or so, I definately noticed it sounded like butter, so I'll have to let it warm up longer before playing from now on. Thanks for the advice.
  12. I was just surprised to hear that Chad Smith (RHCP) played the drums on the new Dixie Chicks album. In the past I found it cool to hear that Dave Grohl recorded the drums for Tenacious D. This is sort of similar, but I heard that Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) wrote the song "Hangin' Around" to pay homage to the Len song "Steal My Sunshine." The chord progression is so similar that you can actually sing "Steal My Sunshine" over "Hangin' Around." While on the similar sounding songs topic, I always thought that Offspring song that went, "...Nana why don't you get a job" sounded a lot like "Ob La D
  13. So, I just got my first tube amp...fender blues reissue. Excellent. Just wondering if it is normal for the tubes to get really damn hot. I touched one after about an hour of playing and burned the hell out of my finger!
  14. Thanks for all the help guys, that answers my question.
  15. I'm not really an expert (at all) on amps, so I was wondering what the advantage of using an FX loop on an amp is. In the past I have just gone from the guitar into the pedal and then into the normal input of the amp. What is the advantage to using the FX loop? Are there some pedals that should be or are better to be used in the FX loop as opposed to running guitar->pedal->amp? And is "send" the "in" or "out?" Any help and clarification would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  16. I just went shopping this weekend for a new amp and was very close to buying the blues jr with the tweed coverng. Pretty sweet. I then decided that I really prefer a two channel amp and am now waiting for the Blues Reissue to come in. Hopefully sometime this week.
  17. they're actually pretty cheap too. You can find tons of them on ebay. I bought a really cool Harmony (kay, stella) archtop a couple years back for around $150.
  18. I have been looking at ES 335s by Gibson and I have noticed that some of them have are noted as being a "Memphis Series." Just wondered if anyone knew what this meant. They seem to be a little cheaper than normal too...hmmm
  19. I was thinking of buying a tubescreamer to satisfy my OD needs. Perhaps I should reconsider? or is this like comparing apples to oranges?
  20. I once heard that the baby blue SG was a gift from Jeff's wife as a birthday present and presumably custom ordered. Not sure as far as the others....couldn't even guess the value either.
  21. One of my friends works in the recording industry out in hollyweird and usually has good things to say about AKG. You might want to look at the AKG perception 200 Large-Diaphragm condenser mic. It's $160. I plan on getting one sometime soon to replace an MXL V63.
  22. Just wondering if anyone uses any good tab programs that are faster than typing a million dashes in notepad. Having it be free would also be cool. Gracias.
