My dad had his favorite 45 minutes of the White Album on one side of a cassette tape and then put a some selections from the Red and Blue Albums on the other side it was my introduction to the band when I was 12, and I used to play it religiously. The White Album is wonderful, the high points are the among the best songs in their catalog, and even some of the throwaway tracks are pretty fun when you're listening to the entire thing. --Mike

I hate University of Miami as well, they used to beat up on WVU pretty frequently before they bolted from the Big East. They also gave us two five-star "gut punch," Kellen Winslow Jr. is even less popular in Morgantown bars than Rich Rodriguez. --Mike

Does the mean Michigan is going to stop raiding WVU for coaches? I had a feeling he'd struggle a bit at Michigan, but this year has been a total disaster. The reason he sucked at WVU the first season wasn't because he didn't have the talent for his system, it was because he didn't have talent period. Maybe he'll get it turned around, but though I like all of you Michigan fans here, I am bitterly pulling for this to be the beginning of his Willingham-esque decline. --Mike

You just gave me a scenario to root for, though I'd kind of like to see South Carolina or Florida State upset Florida, who would still go on to knock off Bama in the SEC championship game to really screw things up. Also here's another potential disaster... Texas Tech beats Oklahoma, and then gets beat by Missouri in the Big 12 championship game by a close margin. Florida State beats Florida, Alabama gets stunned in the Iron Bowl and Florida beats Bama in the SEC championship game. USC wins out, but has a few close calls. Penn State loses to Michigan State. Utah wins out. This would leave

Electro Shock Blues is his best and most consistent release, one of the ten greatest albums ever made in my humble opinion. The songs do deal with the death of his sister and his mother, who was dying of cancer at the time, but much like Aeroplane the record transcends it's dark subject matter and becomes something that's ultimately quite hopeful. Daises and Blinking Lights are really good as well. Shootenany, Beautiful Freak (which contains his sort of "hit" Novocaine For the Soul) and Souljacker all have some good moments, but I'd start with Electro Shock move to Daises of the Galaxy and B

Just to clarify, that comment was aimed at Mr. Nicholas not you. --Mike

I think you can still find the whole thing on YouTube, worth checking out if you're a fan of his music. --Mike

Ironically, I find that to be the case with most of what you post here. --Mike

It kind of reminds of me Can't Stand It, really good pop single. After a few listens it's certainly growing on me. --Mike

Yeah I picked up on that as well. It was a fun little tune, nothing earth shattering it reminded me a bit of Kicking Television or I'm a Wheel. I don't think it's quite as good as some people here some to be making out to be, but it was cool to see them on the show and it was nice to see Jeff rocking the white Jazzmaster again. --Mike

If the only song you've heard on Rubber Soul is Run For Your Life... I still think you're wrong. --Mike

Yeah, I apologize that I overly simplified things there, I was trying to poke a little fun at the common perception that all Jay did was add keyboards and all Jim does is add white noise, neither of which are true. However at 1 a.m., I couldn't quite figure out how to get that across. I'm of the opinion that O'Rourke might be the best thing that happened to Wilco, not only for his production work but since he was involved in introducing Jeff to Glenn, which lead to Glenn joining the band. O'Rourke was involved with SBS and mixed it, but that version never saw the light of day. I am pretty s

Hasn't every music review ever written done song comparisons like that? He's also essentially spot on with his description. --Mike

Yeah, his son Gary wrote a memoir about Bing's abusive tendencies. I only know of this because Family Guy made a joke about it and I looked it up. --Mike

I like and appreciate your passion, but I completely disagree with just about everything in your post. I think there's a way to defend the way you feel about SBS without dismissing the opinions of those of us who feel differently about it. With a few exceptions-- and most of them are trolls-- there aren't too many of us on here who are underwhelmed with the album who have insulted people that like it. I've tried kept my focus on my issues with the album itself-- the songs just aren't there for me, it doesn't flow as well as whole, it hasn't really gotten much better as I've re-listened to it,

Haven't heard anything, but two years on and Ys still pretty much does my head in anytime I listen to it, what an incredible piece of music. I'm certainly looking forward to it's eventual follow up. --Mike

Can anyone photoshop O'Rourke into this? --Mike -
Yes, the rumors are true. Pat was let go after accidentally punching Jeff in the mouth during one of his windmills, and he's been replaced on ukulele and triangle by the former star of UHF. In theory, this is even better than Johnny Marr joining Modest Mouse. --Mike
