It was in the first week of March in 2007, though I am getting the impression from this article that the new album might not be completely finished yet, so it might be awhile. --Mike

Whatever the reason for his departure, I certainly miss his contributions to the band, their live sound in particular, I loved his playing. When The Roses Bloom Again 2003 Soundstage --Mike

New Wes Anderson Film: The Darjeeling Limited
mpolak21 replied to Welsh Rich's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
The Wire is the only thing I can think of that had a Play With Fire mention, but I am pretty sure the song itself isn't actually in the episode , is it possible you're thinking of "I am Waiting" another Stones song from that era that's kind of similar, which was in Rushmore? I still watch Darjeeling every couple of months, it is probably the one I probably enjoy watching the most. Tenenbaums is probably my favorite over all, though I love all five of his movies, but it can be a bit emotionally draining to watch. I am looking forward to Mr. Fox quite a bit and hearing Jarvis Cocker's contrib -

For the hell of it: I decided to just take my favorite 12 songs from these albums and mold a playlist (who needs rules anyway). Here's what I came up with. 1.) At Least That's What You Said 2.) You Are My Face 3.) Hummingbird 4.) Handshake Drugs 5.) I Am Trying To Break Your Heart 6.) War On War 7.) Jesus, etc. 8.) Ashes of American Flags 9.) Muzzle of Bees 10.) Pot Kettle Black 11.) Poor Places 12.) Reservations --Mike

If We Only Have One Life to Live...
mpolak21 replied to Wilco Worshipper's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Yeah, mine too. And that knowledge has got me out of bed in some tough times. I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing to still be affected pretty deeply by someone whom you were romantically involved with for quite some time, as long as it isn't completely consuming all of your energy. I would be almost more frightened if I got to the point where the females I have been with didn't matter to me at all than still worrying about them or stressing out over things that went wrong that I really had no control over. Ultimately, WW, no one deserves to be of stuck in a relationship that's hur -
Here is my list with two stipulations. 1.) To keep my brain from exploding, I have not counted the Mermaid Avenues and only count the studio Wilco albums. 2.) Being There's second disc counts as tracks 11-19. The Picks 1.) I Am Trying To Break Your Heart 2.) Far Far Away 3.) A Shot In The Arm 4.) Muzzle of Bees 5.) Jesus, etc. 6.) Ashes of American Flags 7.) Pieholden Suite 8.) How To Fight Loneliness 9.) Pot Kettle Black 10.) Poor Places 11.) Sunken Treasure 12.) Blue Eyed Soul 13.) Too Far Apart 14.) In a Future Age 15.) Kingpin 16.) Candyfloss 17.) Why Would You Wanna Live? 18.)

Nice, I've been known to bust out that pose anytime I am sitting through a concert I don't particularly enjoy. In semi-related news I just facebooked Pat to ask him if a cover of Stonehenge will be on the new album, still haven't heard anything back... "No, we're not doing fucking Stonehenge, tomorrow!" --Mike.

Me too, it sounds like it was all done in like one take, I dig it. --Mike

Should Hollinger. return to Wilco? GloNo think so. --Mike
-
Yeah, I'd find another album in that vein to be a little troublesome as well. I don't really care how they record it, whether they use ten million overdubs or none, as long as the collection of songs are strong. That's where I personally found SBS to be a little lacking, I mean there really isn't anything they could do studio-wise to make Walken as interesting to me as Sunken Treasure or Hate it Here as affective as Ashes of American Flags. So, while I am not looking for them to return to a particular sound, I'd be quite pleased if they made another album as good or even better than YHF. At wo

Yeah, it tends to give the songs a fresher sound to my ears. Even the basic tracks of YHF were recorded "live" in the studio, and the overdubs/sonic weight was added later in the process. Haven't really heard enough of the new songs enough times to have much of an opinion yet, but I am naturally looking forward to Wilco The Album, and hope I will share the Rolling Stone writer's enthusiasm. A really good Wilco record will certainly make my summer more enjoyable. --Mike.

Why "Please Be Patient With Me" is the greatest song on earth
mpolak21 replied to Doctor B's topic in Just A Fan
Best of luck, Doc. I'm pulling for you. --Mike. -
Yeah, this sounds pretty cool. If they had edited the outtro down a little bit, it would have made a cool edition to the actual record. --Mike.

Excellent, excellent band just a rung behind Big Star in my favorite Power Pop bands of that era. --Mike.

Ralph Malph has a band? Sweet. --Mike

I just received a text message from Hollinger. saying that he's getting the "itch" to listen to Wilco again. The band however may have already moved on, and might swap him to The Walkmen for a listener to be named later. --Mike.

It's been awhile since either has matched their artistic pinnacles, but the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy were and still are massively important to the music scene. I think Nirvana up until maybe a year or two after Cobain's suicide was really the last definitive "most important band in America" and even with them they were still pretty polarizing. It's a good topic for discussion, but hard to really pin down because there are so many different ways to look at a band's importance. Influence? Relevance? How well known they are? Overall, The Velvet Underground are the most important American

Yeah, that would be great. It's a shame no video footage of Jim playing with the band during that tour is out there, I guess the Letterman "War on War" sort of counts but I'd love to see the full Soundstage at some point. --Mike

"Why is there tape on your nose?" "Exactly!" "Do you have a bigger bag for maps and atlases, sir?" I better stop or I'll be quoting it all night. --Mike.

There isn't one. I like Jay Farrar more after reading what Sarah C posted about what happened at the Son Volt concert. I should have used the quote function. --Mike
