I understand people not digging MMJ's studio albums, because many of them are drenched with reverb and just sound stale and restrained. But that Okonokos live album has some bounce-into-the-walls good stuff on it.

Just got it Thursday and still tweaking it. The last 6 months I've been on a fuzz hunt. I have the Fuzz Factory, but took it off the board bc of lack of tone shaping. Had the Swollen Pickle but couldn't ever dial in what I wanted (and honestly, for me, that pedal has too many options when you start dialing the internal trims) I LOVE the chunky cheese I have (big cheese clone). I probably should buy an extra as a back up. With 40000 fuzzes out there it is a hit and miss venture. So far I am loving the Scarab. Not the most versatile fuzz I have played, but it has some great tones

I hear what you're saying but there are some amazing guitars on Altered Beast. The following come to mind: Dinosaur Act, Ugly Truth Rock, Do It Again, What Do You know? There are some weak-ass songs and junior high lyrics on that record but damn does it sound great

you know who was really good at recording guitars? Matthew Sweet Girlfriend and Altered Beast--whatever you think about the underlying lyrics or songs themselves--have some amazing guitar work, and it sounds like they're playing in the same room a few feet away. edit: had no idea that Jim Rondinelli, who is credited with engineering and mixing Girlfriend, is also credited with same for Being There.

the guitars on that tune are immensely overrated. it would have been great if Edge had gone off to do other projects after Pop (and U2 had ended).
