I didnt catch who the guy was, but his point was that they waited that long so that they could be 100% certain that they had him dead red. We will find out. --and now WFAN is actually reporting that there is evidence of positive tests. Sorry bobbob. I know how much this hurts you.

According to WFAN, they've got positive tests and have been sitting on them for years. Apparently he is going to jail. Again, according to WFAN. EDIT: to clear that up - they aren't "reporting" it, but they are interviewing someone who said this.

Nah, I dont buy it. The Yanks are trying to get the Sox to go to 4 yrs. And it's gonna work.

give it a few more pages. Be patient.

I'm back. Are we really arguing about whether people prefer to watch baseball or plumbing on TV?

Hi. My name is MattZ. I am a Mets, Jets and Knicks fan. I am also a Michigan alum. Thank you.

They haven't announced the contract terms, but I am really interested to see what this guy gets. I mean, it's not every day that a fat, injury-prone catcher who can't hit or field gets signed. Any guesses?

And the Mets take the back page of the tabloids right back from the Yanks by signing Yorvit Torrealba!! Take that ARod fans!!

John Zorn's Electric Masada (Ribot, etc.) at Tonic in NYC used to be my own personal NYE tradition for several years running. Until they put a high rise condo there this year.

Hey! Keep that out of here!

To paraphrase Mao -- baseball is the opiate of the masses. Mao clearly thought there was some benefit to distracting the masses. Maybe making baseball way more essential to Communists than you give credit. Possible? EDIT: my point is that all governments need distraction to govern -- making those distractions essential. Way more essential in the grand scheme of things than plumbers. The guy who is underpaid in a capitalist country or frustrated with distribution of wealth in a socialist country needs to turn on the tube to watch some baseball. Keeps him in his place.

Except the antics happen all the time at every show. So maybe one specific instance of "antic" isnt planned, but the whole package certainly is. Which means they all are. It is certainly a controlled and planned chaos. Some people get turned off by that. I happen to think they're great -- on the albums and live. I just have a hard time believing that all these "unplanned" things you speak of are really as spur of the moment as you suggest. I don't care, although others seem to, and I suppose I can understand why.

Thanks to everyone for doing this...

I don't know about anyone else, but I am betting that this is the thread where we finally figure out all of this stuff and agree.

(Paraphrased) statement from the Chief Operating Officer of the Yanks just read on WFAN: "Talks are ongoing as we speak. Nothing definitive to report at this moment. We are hopeful." When asked if Boras is involved -- response: "No Comment." Wow.
-
Unbelievable. Where are they getting this from? I just tuned in. Is it for 10 yrs?
-
Mike/Dog are saying its a done deal. Wow. Did I hear $27MM?

oh crap, sorry...

"Isiah has to start me," Marbury fumed, according to the source. "I've got so much (stuff) on Isiah and he knows it. He thinks he can (get) me. But I'll (get) him first. You have no idea what I know." Stay classy Starbury.

He would plant it because the one thing he wants/needs is a bidding war. With the Yanks out of the process that bidding war just doesnt happen on the same level. Making the other teams in the league think he could go back to the Yanks gets them to the table quicker. The Yanks had better be careful here. They came out and said they would not negotiate with him and if they do and get burned, they will have egg on their face and will lose all credibility in future negotiations. This is a high stakes chess match at this point.

The general consensus on the airwaves here in NYC is that its an implicit acknowledgment that ARod and Boras miscalculated his worth on the open market. And that the Angels, Dodgers, Mets, etc are not going to do better than the Yanks would do. So it's not that he wants to go back to the Yanks but, that he screwed up and now needs to go back to the Yanks at this point. When put in that light it doesnt seem quite so fishy, but I wouldn't put anything past Boras at this point -- especially planting an article like this to bring the Angels, Dodgers, Mets, etc to the table. Either way, if AR

Exactly what I thought when I read that. The guy is batshit crazy, but man, I am happy he is.

...and now I am checking out this Acorn album. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks!

I have had the experience recently when, in casual conversation with friends/acquaintances, someone asks me which bands I listen to. In the past, mentioning a band like Wilco would elicit confused looks or awkward responses more often than not. I still get those same responses. But, now, when I throw in -- have you seen those VW ads?? -- people sometimes know what I am talking about. And on occasion people have smiled and said that they liked the music in the ads but didnt know who it was. So, TDW, I agree with you that people may not know it's wilco in those ads, but people do often rem

I think jnick and jbick's point is that bands are hiding behind the argument that they want to expand their audience when the reality is that commercials do not expand an audience and bands just want the payday and should admit it. I dont agree with either of them.
