  1. ? Buffett got a 10% kicker on his investment (in Goldman and GE). I agree with you that he is not sounding the panic button like others, but an investment like that isn't exactly a sign that folks like us should start buying. We ain't getting a sweetheart deal like that.
  2. When I heard you was cold I bought you a coat and hat I think you must have forgotten about that. I think we can all live happily ever after in the space between forgotten and about. Who's with me?
  3. These CDs give fans unfettered access to Dylan's creative process from Oh Mercy! through Modern Times. It's a brilliant and mindblowing ride to see how these songs and these albums came together. It's like you are there. I already treasure this package. It gives so much more than just the music. I also read somewhere online that the ridiculous pricetag of the 3rd cd is Dylan's joke on all of us. After all, this is the bootleg series. He knows everyone is just going to bootleg that cd (ie, download it off the internet). Just like in the old days, when folks traded bootleg versions of B
  4. Also, to pick up on the theme of musicians and their politics, I can sympathize with Jules. I try to divorce myself from the personalities and positions of the musicians/artists I like. Plenty of musicians beat their wives, or are assholes, etc. (Any Dylan fans out there get lost during the Christian years?) It's a dangerous recipe. Sometimes it's unavoidable. I dig Wilco but I squirm when Jeff gets too political in concert. That's not why I am there. And I happen to agree with his positions.
  5. No one's a bigger Lennon fan than me. And I don't think Imagine is about unicorns. But let's be honest. Elvis hit that song on the head. It's a beautiful song, and a beautiful ideal. Sung by a guy with more money and possessions than he knew what to do with. John's head and heart were in the right place, for sure. And he came from nothing, so he knew what it was like to have no possessions. But he wasn't exactly practicing what he was preaching. Not saying he has to. And not saying that it takes away from the beautiful song it is. But that's reality.
  6. I often get choked up when I see Paul interviewed or talking about John these days. They went through some bad times, but it's as if you can see deep into him and you can see how much he loved John and how much he misses him. Also, how much he looked up to him. Those bad times and those good times make them so human to me. Just like any other two best friends. Caught in a whirlwind. Maybe I am reading too much into nothing, but I really don't think so.
  7. The Phish of old would've agreed with the three of us. I think that's what makes this hard for me. And while I was bummed with the direction the band took, I could always respect their decision to go on hiatus and then break up. They respected themselves, the music and the phans too much. They knew.
  8. I'm with Moe/Debbie. Phish doesn't owe me anything, but I fall into the category of a phan that has had a little bit too much of the soap opera surrounding the band. If you think about it, basically since Big Cypress, the band (or Trey) have been tentative in their commitment to the band. I think they've admitted as much -- Trey said that he thought they should've hung it up on 1/1/00. This has resulted in uninspired shows, sloppy play, rumors of a hiatus, a hiatus, a return, more sloppy play, and the ultimate send off at Coventry. Now they are back again. Full disclsoure: I've been seei
  9. Happy birthday, John. I wish you were here to help us through these crazy times. I know you'd be very angry. And very loud about it. Miss you.
  10. I feel like I must have seen every track from Highway 61 at one point or another. EDIT: Oh, and I saw Elvis do the Juliet Letters with the Brodsky Quartet at Town Hall in NYC back when the album came out. Now that was a great show.
  11. I hate to be the guy to break it to you jakobnicholas, but that story was reported in the NYPost. As in, Rupert Murdoch's NY Post. In other words, that story was reported so that McCain supporters could be SO proud to puff out their chests and joke about this endorsement. Not because Obama supporters give a rat's ass about Madonna. Hook, line, sinker, ya know?
  12. In any bartering economy the utility of the item determines its worth. Everyone knows those SUPER HUGE ones are vitrually useless. (I hope. Damn, I only started stealing the little ones.)
  13. I have started hoarding binder clips because I am confident that one binder clip will equal 25 paper clips in our new currency. Laugh and ignore at your own peril, my friends. BINDER CLIPS!!!
  14. No, its a studio take. I guess that they must mean that this version is unreleased. But then, why not say that for every track? On every album?
  15. Ah, yes. I am listening to this on rhapsody and it says it was unreleased. I wonder why.
  16. Can anyone report back on the 3rd cd? EDIT: And where have I heard Born In Time from before? I know I have...
  17. I agree. What the hell else is out there? I am going to start sounding like a broken record, but I was walking around last week and had no idea that a song like Red River Shore existed. It is scary.
  18. I am not so worried about 401k issues -- unless you are close to retirement age there is (hopefully) enough time to claw back what's been lost in equities. The market's troubles are signs of much bigger looming problems on the horizon -- like a global depression. Inflation, unemployment, etc. are much scarier to me. As Jules pointed out, the market rebounded yesterday and seems to be holding steady today. Everyone that has called the bottom this year so far has been wrong. But maybe (hopefully) we've gotten there. I wouldn't bet on it.
  19. Still digesting what I am hearing right now, but I can't believe how many good songs are on here. It's mind boggling to me that I was walking around last week and had no idea that a song like Dreamin Of You existed. What superlatives can be said about this guy that don't come off sounding like cliche at this point? Thank you Bob.
  20. First time right now. Loving it! EDIT: Wow, the alternate version of Someday Baby from MT is pretty awesome.
