  1. in the olden days, leaks were hard to come by and those albums certainly weren't spread among the masses like the common cold...these days...not so much. one in the review biz has to keep up with the times and this would be an example. especially with blogs and boards such as this. the traditional music critic imo is fading in importance and it is definately not a career choice i would recommend for anyone. at least for those who expect a paycheck from it. everyone's a critic now with an avenue to voice their opinion and some "hack" critics are far better than the "professionals".
  2. i agree they belong there, but another season or two of drawing 12,000 or less and i would worry if i was a blues fan. btw: what happened to all the blackhawks fans? they are 28th out of the 30 teams in attendance and only average 12,771 fans. do they play their home games in a shoe box? is 12,000 a sell out? their draw is a little surprising to me in a city that size.
  3. well, if you just go by attendance, the lightning draw 19,786 a game vs. the panthers at 15,242. so, i guess you could assume that the panthers are the weak link in that state. plus, tampa just won the cup in 2004. i really have no opinion on the predators moving. a team is a team at this point. st. louis has the worst draw in the league at 12,177. what the hell is going on over there? if i had my choice, the blues would move a few hundred miles west. they were my first love anyway. would be nice to see them more often. no offense stl., but you have something we would love to have here i
  4. what is country skank...? according to wikipedia there is no such term. however, i offer you this... Skank is slang and a pejorative term used in the Western World to describe an extremely self entitled or promiscuous female.[1] It can also refer to how a woman is dressed.[2] Skanks are supposedly shallow women, obsessed with celebrity lifestyle and emulating or focused on the attainment of material goods. This term is distinct from "slut" in that it usually implies a slovenly or ill-featured woman. Originally denoting a bad smell[citation needed] or a filthy surface[3], "skank" has come
  5. great review, but a few "issues" i can't help but point out. sorry, i couldn't help it.
  6. Madame Tussaud was gracious enough to lend the likeness of Keith Richards to participate in the Hall of Fame festivities. However, because of the heat generated from the lights, it began to melt.
  7. i like those odds and it's nice knowing KU has already beat Florida this year.
  8. well, it appears that the pens are staying in pittsurgh from the reports i'm hearing. even though i live in the k.c. area, i'm actually relieved they are staying. the pens are a fixture in pittsburgh and i didn't want us to bring any bad karma on ourselves by them coming here and ruining tradition and mario's legacy. we'll get a team soon (hopefully) but some things just aren't right and mario moving his team here just wouldn't be right. i'm glad they are finally getting their arena deal after 7 years of being kicked around (you're welcome) and good luck continuing to deal with pittsburgh poli
  9. i walked out mid-way through yes in 2000. they had already played about an hour and a half and if i'd stayed longer i would have been asleep. there was no interaction at all with the audience and jon stood there like a mannequin. they sounded great, but i might as well have been watching a live dvd. very disappointing.
  10. i actually think the opener and closer are great for the album. no problems there imo. my thoughts exactly.
  11. speaking for myself, wilco does hold a place near and dear to me. but as far as wanting to convert the "non-believers", i really don't care. either people get it or they don't. i'm used to favoring music a bit below the radar and i don't need someone elses "thumbs up" to validate what i listen to. i just listen to what i like and if someone asks me about one of those bands/artists, i'm more than happy to enlighten them.
  12. reaallly...you don't know much about kc...do you. let me say that i don't want the pens to move. it just wouldn't be right and i'm not alone in thinking that out here in what some ignorant outsiders (no offense to you) consider the "wasteland" of middle america. kansas city is an underserved sports market. we have a hole to fill in the winter months. k.c. sells out 80,000 seats every freakin' game for the chiefs and still can do a very decent gate for the royals who have lost 100+ games in 3 of the last 4 years. we supported our last hockey team for over a decade (kc blades in the IHL) with at
  13. i cue'd up SBS for the morning drive today and it went right to What Light. i was digging it and was actually listening intently to the lyrics and these lines hit me. "If you feel like singin' a song And you want other people to sing along Just sing what you feel Don't let anyone tell you it's wrong And if you're trying to paint a picture But you're not sure what colors belong Just paint what you feel Don't let anyone tell you it's wrong" ...and then the battery went out on my mp3 player. first of all...that was freakin' weird. it's like jeff was sending me a message regarding his fe
  14. i think i've finally figured out what box to put SBS in. after thinking about my history as a wilco fan, i finally think i've finally put things in perspective, at least for me. here's my thoughts: i loved AM when it came out [still do]. then BT came out and i was in heaven [wilco's first classic album]. then came YHF. although it scattered many of the alt-country faithful, it was such a great album [an all-time classic to me], it made many old fans stick around [including me] to see what they would do next. they follow that with AGIB and by then i think the bar had been set too high. AGIB h
  15. i was being my sarcastic self when i mention the ww II thing. i just found it a bit odd that all that was needed was a mention of italy to re-create the original power trio from teh early 1940's.
  16. let's keep this thing civil. i really don't want to have to close this thing if at all possible. i'm not just interested in hearing your opinion on the album [good or bad], but also the actual reason why. it's interesting to me at least to see things from another perspective. anybody can throw tomatoes. bring some reasoning, or start your own thread. there's been some pretty enlightened comments so far and i don't want the axe-grinders scaring people off or sending this conversation down the toilet. be nice.
  17. i'm thinking pittsburgh would want k.c. to re-name the team the ice-holes if we get the pens. seriously, i'd like them to stay in pittsburgh, but if somebody's offering up a chance at sidney crosby, who in their right mind is gonna say no? blame this circus on the politicians in pa. it's not our fault in k.c. i still think they are gonna stay.
  18. i want the team from pittsburgh combined with the name from st. louis. but i'll just settle for the team. we can figure out the details later. there's nothing like witnessing an NHL game in person. it would be nice not to have to drive hundreds of miles to do so. whether or not it's the pens, k.c. needs a team.
  19. no, you're silly. what was this thread supposed to be about anyway. somebody take the wheel.
  20. i was a bit shocked with your mention of fall out boy. you ok louie...? wow. just kidding. i'll keep my comments about them to myself. i heard some of their stuff before they hit it big and thought what i heard sounded ok, definately emo. maybe their overexposure has soured my current opinion of them. might be a few years till the dust settles to give them a valid assessment, at least from me.
  21. it's ok, i'm over on the left side of the state and i've never noticed a difference whenever i'm in stl. hell, maybe i've got an accent and don't know it. it's all relative i guess.
