Wait up and The Good Part

I saw them Tuesday night in Bloomington, IN. Awesome show from the front row in a tiny little club. We got Voodoo Lady and the Mollusk that night (which are probably my favorites to see live) but I'm jealous you got Zoloft, Exactly Where I'm At and Even If You Don't. Best surprise of the night was Pandy Fackler... I'd never seen them do it live before and it was bad ass.

Two great shows with a couple of surprises... first, Elvis Costello opened. He was supposed to join the tour a bit later, but without advertisement, he joined a little early. He played about 8 tunes each night (solo acoustic). Also, Jack White came out to front the band for one song the first night (Meet Me in the Morning... first time Bob had ever played it live) and two songs the second night (One More Cup Of Coffee and Outlaw Blues).

Probably the best Wilco show I've seen (except for the last night at the Vic for the Kicking Television sessions). One thing not mentioned yet was the opening for Heavy Metal Drummer... when Glenn normally holds up his sticks in his "rock star" pose... last night he held up two Louisville Sluggers instead. Also, that set list was fantastic. Hadn't seen them play Red Eyed/I Got You in a long, long time... BFOL and Just That Simple were first timers for me. The sound was great, the weather was perfect, the crowd was into it...

Nice plate... but if you were a real Wilco fan, you'd drive a Volkswagon. Kidding... someone had to say it.

I'll be there too. I saw Dylan there a few years ago and if I remember right, there is a restaurant/bar in the concourse of the stadium.

I agree. I don't think it's helped me become much of a better guitar player. But I find it interesting to apply that knowledge and understand why the standard EADGBE tuning became the standard. Or just pick up any other instrument and quickly understand it and be able to play things on it with no instruction.

It was a great show... really good crowd. Les came out in a tux with top hat (got rid of the jacket early on). Wore his pig mask for a couple of songs while he played the upright. Made a few humorous comments. One in particular about how too many people were smoking and that smoking makes a woman taste like beef jerky. He played a little bit of a Zeppelin cover (Black Dog) and a few Primus teases (Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers and the drum intro to John The Fisherman). I can't remember the whole set list but off the top of my head I remember One Better, Iowan Gal, Long In The Tooth,

For something relatively fast, I would go with The Old Point or McNiven's. Neither is "fast food" but probably a little quicker than most of the other places around there (of the places you can drink). Most places near there are good, just not really fast. Bazbeaux is really good, but not fast at all (and on a Friday night before a show, there will be a wait list).

I'm seeing him tonight in Indy... Looking forward to it. He always puts on a great show.

I've seen a lot of people speculate on this and it's one thing I am pretty sure isn't a real possibility. All of the whackings have followed the Gangster Handbook to a T. Enter scene, kill target, drop weapon, leave. No one hangs around for a while and then makes the hit. If Tony was shot, it wasn't by anyone we saw in the scene earlier.

No. The distinction is in the definition of the word "right." A right is something that can't be taken away. Thus, your right to life means that an individual can't take away your life. It does not obligate an individual to sustain your life. Not at all. But as I said, the current health care system is largely controlled by the government.

I don't think you can make the claim that today's health care system isn't largely controlled by the government.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not a ruthless uncaring guy. I agree that we need to take care of each other. I just don't think we need government interference to do it. When you look at history, I can't think of a single thing the government has ever done better or more efficiently than private individuals have. Health care, in my opinion, is way too important to hand over to the government.

Says the individuals that wrote the documents this country was founded on for starters. You have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That goes for others as well. Your rights end where theirs begin. You do not have the right to force them to do something as it infringes on their right to liberty. So, again, nothing can be a basic human right if it requires someone else to provide it.

This goes against one very basic principle... something can't be a basic human right if it requires forcing another individual to provide it.

Really? He encouraged charity, sure. But did he use government to force individuals to be charitable? Big difference.

I saw them Saturday at the Abbey Pub in Chicago. I agree with your review. They rocked. The opening band was sloppy. Also, there was a short, acoustic solo set from Lou Barlow which was difficult to hear (unlike D Jr). It might have been cool in the right setting.

Welfare is inherently socialist. Government enforced rent control is inherently anti-capitalist/communist. She is clearly in favor of using government force to redistribute the earnings of citizens and control markets. I'm all for helping your fellow man... I just don't believe it's the proper role of government to reach into its citizens wallets and give what it finds to other individuals or corporation

You are correct... I dismiss the philosophy of socialism, communism and any others that directly oppose individual liberty (the concept this country was founded on). I suck that way. Anyway, back to the topic... it doesn't make any difference to me how much money Wilco makes. I'll be a fan as long as they are making music that I dig. They output music, I listen. The rest of it is their business... literally and figuratively.
