  1. Exactly. And I went into it knowing that, even though having a mortgage broker who could not have cared less really didn't help matters. I also knew I would not be in that first house for more than 10 years (ended up being 8 years). You do what you have to do. And even though you didn't have a down payment, at least you have a mortgage you can afford. It's the borrowers who take out these mortgages knowing there's no way they can afford them that bother me. Just because you qualify doesn't necessarily mean you'll be able to afford it.
  2. I didn't put a down payment on my first house and I was screwed accordingly on the interest rate and the type of mortgage I took out. Definitely learned my lesson and did things differently with my second house. Of course, having a big check in hand from the sale of my first house didn't hurt.
  3. I may be at that game. I get tix from my brother and if I ask early enough, he usually will give me one. I've already asked for Arkansas but I'll see about LSU, too. I may actually know someone who has a condo at The Gates. He definitely has a condo, just not sure if it's there or the ones across from the stadium on Bluff Road. I may see him at lunch today so I'll ask.
  4. Who knows at this point. Neither team is playing worth a crap. We can't even settle on a QB, although apparently Garcia is starting at Ole Miss. I meant to ask you about your band playing at a tailgate the other week. I saw you post about it but you didn't say where you played. We were tailgating next to the Gamecock Pavilion and I heard a band, but once they started playing Celebration, I figured (hoped anyway) it wasn't you guys.
  5. He consistently beats SC, though. As silly as that sounds, it definitely is one of the reasons he's still around.
  6. Vibes. Hey, if it makes you feel any better, we only managed 2 touchdowns against UAB. UAB!! And now we have to travel to Mississippi the week after they beat Florida in the Swamp. Maybe they'll still be on a high and we can sneak up on them. Otherwise, it's gonna be a long day. What a strange year so far. Duke and Vanderbilt near or at the top of their respective conferences.
  7. I'm loving the tin foil sculputures. Seeing them and the warm thoughts expressed here make me wish I'd known Natalie better. Life is so fragile and fleeting, as I have learned recently. It's good to see a life that has touched so many people.
  8. One thing's for sure. Tim Russert was sorely missed tonight.
  9. I'm still trying to figure out when and how the campaign was actually suspended.
  10. That chick had to be on crack. How dare Obama question the effectiveness of the surge when we're on the verge of victory in Iraq (smiling broadly). She definitely belonged in the Spin Room. Also, why wouldn't McCain look at Obama???
  11. My sister in law's parents are from Belgium. She and my brother took a trip there last summer to visit her 96 year old grandmother. She also has a brother who lives in Switzerland. He was born here but moved to Europe after he finished school. He's almost 50 now and said he will never move back here. I have to agree with you on the beer. And the people. In addition to my sis in law's parents, I've met many of their friends. Couldn't understand alot of what they were saying but there was alot of smiling that went on.
  12. Well just like most things in life, you tell a kid they can't do/watch/read something, they're going to want to do it tenfold. I remember a friend of mine "stealing" her sister's Are you There God It's Me Margaret book one night and us reading it under the covers of her bed. Good times.
  13. Oh, Harry Potter is a hot topic here, too, you know because of the whole witchcraft thing. I know several people who've not allowed their kids to read the books.
  14. Well you don't live in the South where everything is challenged if it's the least bit controversial (masturbation, teen sex, etc.)
  15. Not sure why that's so surpising. She did write Are you There God It's Me Margaret and Forever. Oh and Deenie. I'm never in favor of banning books but I could see why alot of parents/teachers might find those books controversial.
  16. From another board about the Couric interview: Unbelievable.
  17. Eh, they still play in the Big Ten.
  18. Is that the one with Dick Van Dyke and Ronnie Howard?
