  1. I find Summerteeth to be very human lyrically and musically, which makes it sound warmer to me. The 3-song stretch of Pieholden Suite, How to Fight Lonliness and Via Chicago has it all. We're Just Friends, My Darling and Future Age are very human. She's a Jar shines with interesting and harrowing lyrics with a very warm-sounding harmonica. And the keyboards, which I like a lot, make it sound warmer and friendlier and more likeable.

To me, YHF, with all its extra sounds and empty space, just sounds a little distant and cooler. It's a great disc, no doubt, but it almost sounds a little too planned and thought-out. I prefer the YHF demos over YHF.

Again, it's hard to put what you hear and how it makes you feel into words. I just know that BT and ST rise above Wilco's other very good albums.

    :yes

  2. As a German who thankfully has access to immediate hip replacements if needed, it deeply saddens me that one of my alltime favorite music heroes, someone who like Jeff is hugely responsible for me still being sort of sane, had to pass away due to being forced to use something that killed him in the end, just because he couldn't take the pain anymore. Since I read about the likely cause for his death, I am trying to come to terms with this, and I am still kind of at a loss for words.

    I miss you, Jay :upset

  3. Only one single album that stands out for me this year, and which gets more than random listens:

    Morrissey - Years of Refusal

I haven't really had time to check more stuff out, but what I did check out didn't really get me that much.

  4. What news to wake up to. :upset

I'm still at loss of words, and none could ever describe the impact he & his music had on my life anyway. I wouldn't be sane anymore if it wasn't for Jay & Jeff and Summerteeth, which will forever be my favorite Wilco album (although I don't think it's their best), no matter what they still might put out. "Curiosity" is always on every "Best songs that have ever been written"-list I put together, and although I despised how he used the "Pillowy Star & Cracked Door Moon" lyric bit on his new album, I did & do believe that he did it because it might possibly be his lyric to begin with.

    Jay,

thank you for the music, for the words, for putting my life back on track in many ways. I wish we had known earlier about the surgery and the financial problems that occured with it, maybe having more time to help out would have made your later actions obsolete.

Go rest your head on a Pillowy Star and a Cracked Door Moon that says you haven't gone too far.

    :cryin

  5. dcarter, you beat me to it.

IMHO, the Wilco presale indeed is meant to make sure that fans who are signed up for it get better tickets than people who buy tickets weeks later through a normal ticket agency. This didn't happen, it was exactly the other way round. I know for sure because I am the fan Bea talked about who bought tickets at some random ticket agency (they are for my parents who MIGHT want to go as well, seeing as we are meeting them in San Sebastian), and the tickets I got a confirmation about are 19th row, whilst Bea got 29th through the Wilcoworld presale.

I don't understand that at all, although like I said this trip for me is more about meeting friends & family and finally having some time off an insane work schedule, and I have been through so much "presale" hassle when I was still frantic about REM that things like that don't really bother me as much, but I sure as hell would like to know the management's explanation of the word "presale for fans".

  6. This is really very discouraging re: future Wilco shows. If they allow their so-called presale ticket agencies to rip off their truest fans whilst people who just buy over the internet at a normal ticket agency get way better seats, where is the point?

I haven't bought via Wilcoworld in ages, just because it has always been a pain in the a.. to deal with sandbag anyway, they're completely hopeless.

Like I said, Bea, it's in no way your fault! I know what Jeff looks like from close you know ;) You should write a complaint to Wilcoworld as well as to helen@sandbag.co.uk, she's used to dealing with hysterical REM fans (and trust me, when I say hysterical, I mean it :P), and she should be made aware that they yet again managed to seriously let people down.

I'm not really fussed about it that much, this is more of a holiday, meeting up with Brianne & Paul and you two, not to mention my parents, so the shows are a nice extra, which we can still enjoy from row 19 or row 29. :) How about London August 25th ;)? We have standing tickets and intend to be right at the front :lol

  7. Oh I'm not offended at all, don't worry :) Everyone - you, me.... - is entitled to their opinion, and both count equally. :cheers

I didn't realize though this was an appreciation only thread, I thought this was more of a discussion thread where people could voice their opinions be it good or bad.

  8. I had stopped watching LOST pretty much at the beginning of this season, just because the script was so totally ridiculous what with the island moving forwards, backwards, sidewards and whateverwards in time that I just couldn't be bothered anymore.

Last night though I agreed to watch that summary kind of thing before the last 2 episodes. It only confirmed my theory that the script writers have completely lost track on what they are actually writing, and desperately try to make people believe that it is all part of a bigger plan. Yeah sure. :stunned

Completely agree about Juliette being by far the most beautiful woman in LOST, and she belonged to Sawyer because the hottest guy also deserves the hottest woman. :D

Oh yeah, I'm sure that next season the island is gonna move circlewards in time. :rolleyes
