  1. A lot of repeating at the end, so when you sing it in your head go up to the top when you're done. ;)

I'd like to rest my broken hip tonight

On a bed of Wilco royalties

I'd like to lay my mount of debt tonight

On a bed of Wilco royalties

    I'd love to feel

    Your cash touching me

    Please understand

    You must keep working on

    Yes you'll give your life

So I lay my hip tonight on a bed

    of Wilco royalties

    I'd like to dream

    My troubles all away

On a bed of Wilco royalties

Jump up from my bed rest

    Walk around the block

With a cane and Wilco royalties

    I walk like crap

    'Cause I rocked too hard

    And didn't heed advice

    From a doctor's ward

    So you'll give your world

'Cause I wrote some songs with you

Now you owe me Wilco royalties

Stop it. NOW. I can't keep anything in anymore :lol

  2. I was proud of myself for not spitting my pear juice all over the place whilst reading this thread, and "thanked" my dentist for drilling every single bit of humor out of me this morning.

I made it this far in the end.

I dreamed about suing you again last night

    it felt alright to me

filing on the terms of a contract left unsigned

    I watched your wallet bleed

and buried you alive in a settlement today

    raining down on me

your cold-hard cash flowing over me like a sea

I printed my name on the back of a suit

And I had it filed away

The dough I had in catalog of songs and movies

Is all I tried to save

So my health brought me back, via Cook County

In the middle of the spring

And all for $50k (read: fifty-k), or whatever comes from this thing

You know I'll break my back one of these days

    And turn on poor VC

You'll watch a man with a face like mine

    Suing fans for their parodies

And when I get caught I won't be right

    And I won't get a cent

    I'm suing you,

    I'm suing you,

    Via Cook County

    gotta pay the rent,

    god my hip is spent,

    searching for a cent,

    via Cook County

    searching for a cent,

    searching for a cent...

    :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl

BeMyDemon will have to change the original lyrics now, there's no way around it.

(Now if you could only work the "pillowy star" theme into it :lol)

  3. If Jeff, Nels, John, Pat, Glenn or Mike were having a hip replacement and couldn't afford it, I think our collective attitude would be a lot different; it's sad, but it's true.

You mean our collective attitude would be more compassionate, understanding and well-meaning? Well we've shown outpouring support in this thread to Jay prior to his lawsuit.

Other than that, I can see a lot of your points, but that doesn't make Jay's move any more acceptable. I guess he is desperate, but no matter how desperate you are, there is always a line you do not cross. Especially when people have shown they want to help you out.

  4. I don't know exactly how much of Jay Bennett and how much of Jeff Tweedy is actually in "Summerteeth" (and specifically "Via Chicago"), but I know that my life changed drastically to the better because of this album.

If there is anything we can do to support Jay in making his life change to the better, please let us know. We're here to help.

Yes, about the benefit show - Wilco headlining it would be the logical dream, but if personal reasons prevent it from happening, I am sure there are other ways for people who are willing to help this talented musician out.

    Keep us posted please.

  5. I've stopped watching LOST when the island started to move backwards/forwards/sidewards/upwards/downwards/whateverwards in time. I'm sorry, but I honestly do not believe that anyone can still catch up with the constant flashbacks, and I also don't believe that anyone is still able to tell in which year the characters are at each stage of the episodes. The storyline is beyond ridiculous meanwhile, and although I do believe that my IQ is usually high enough to follow such series, I found myself asking at least 10 times per episode ".....oh Locke is NOT dead then?!" or "....oh they're three years BACK now! I thought they are still in the future!"

So no, no more LOST for me.

    All hail SHARK.

  6. R.E.M. - Nightswimming & Everybody Hurts (due to very personal reasons)

Wilco - Via Chicago (Jeff's broken voice at the end just plain kills me)

Wilco - Let Me Come Home (see above)

Five for Fighting - The Riddle

Roddy Woomble - My Secret Is My Silence

    Jay Bennett - Curiosity

    City - Am Fenster

and many more I can't remember right now.

  7. I'm late to this, but I'd still like to reply.

My 2 cents: You're only feeling this kind of overwhelming, never-before-felt love that is undying whilst everything else fails in comparison because you haven't settled with that person!! Trust me, being with someone who's either an addict and/or mentally ill kills every single bit of love inside you once you have to share your life with them full stop.

  8. I was alone on my first full Wilco gig, and totally loved it. Same with Nick Cave. I like not having to make compromises with someone else about the "when" we go, the "how long do we stay afterwards" etc., but decide it on my own.

Since I know my husband, I prefer to go with him to going on my own though. And before I knew him I had a really good friend who I also loved to go with, because we had the same opinions about the a.m. mentioned questions.

  9. Wow...what I would have given to be at any of those Dublin REM shows. Those gems were played in what a 3,000 capicity club? REM haven't played a place that small in the USA for decades and those setlist were killer! West of the Fields, 1,000,000 , Khoutech, Second Guessing...even if you didn't like accelerate I don't know how you couldn't like that show. Knowing what In know now I would have done whatever I can to go to those shows at whatever expense!

Well I 've seen REM in much smaller venues (150 and 800 people) when they played regular shows, and that was just more exciting than them playing songs they had never played before; songs I wasn't too excited about anyway. Plus I hate Dublin with a passion, and after a day of unsuccessfully trying to get any decent public transport in pouring rain, no taxis neither, so we had to walk miles of filthy wet roads, I wasn't exactly in the best mood to be precise.

Also Springsteen for the Seeger session I enjoyed immesnley. I have seen Springsteen on every tour since Tom Joad and I realized it wasn't the E Street Band but I enjoyed their reworkings of those Nebraska songs he did and I actually enjoy the Seeger Sessions cd from time to time.

Yeah, he literally raped "The River" into something unrecognizeable far from the beautiful mellow song it normally is and should be.

  10. RE: Brian Jonestown Massacre: I guess I should have expected it based on reputation but it was one good song followed by 20 minutes of making stupid comments and fighting with people in the crowd, followed by another good song, followed by 20 more minutes of jawing with the crowd. And instead of tuning at the same time he would argue with people, say inane stuff for 20 minutes, then proceed to start tuning his guitar. Then there was an interminable (felt like an hour) of them just making feedback noises with their amps until many of us left. Never again.

LOL :lol That's exactly the reason why I am never, ever gonna attend a BJM show. My husband is a big fan, thinks they are totally brilliant live :huh and showed me a live DVD as an appetizer :stunned . I watched the first 20 mins of it, which consisted of Anton holding a monologue that consisted of "f*ck", "f*cking", "f*cker" and took YES exactly 20 mins. I honestly can't understand why anyone still goes to their shows. People should be paid smart money for it.

    My "bottom" 3 acts:

Bruce Springsteen w/the Seeger Session Band in Cologne, 2006 - I was literally bored to tears and completely nerve-wrecked by the worst acoustic ever and Bruce not being able to connect with the audience one single bit

R.E.M. in Dublin, 2007 - I was expecting a never-seen-before type of gig, what with "rehearsing the new material live on stage" etc, but I kept checking my watch like every 2 mins until it was finally over. The new material was just as underwhelming as I thought it would be, the only things that kept me in the venue were actually some old gems they played. I haven't gotten myself to attend another REM gig ever since. :no

Starsailor in Birmingham/UK, 2005 - I really like most of their recorded stuff and was quite looking forward to this gig, always having in mind "why did this awesome band never really make the breakthrough?".......................until I listened to the first songs live. Their singer unfortunately can't match the quality of the studio recordings at all, and I went out about 2/3 through the set.
