I just finished Under the Banner of Heaven and am now reading.....

That is a great book. I read it when it came out and was iffy about the movie at first seeing as a lot of the little quirks in the book are so British. I didn't know if it would translate well. Though I have come to really love the movie.

I am not riding any fence......I desperately want there to be peace. That's my side. Now, how do we come to that conclusion? I have no freaking idea. But, continuing the cycle of violence isn't solving anything. *shrug* The current equation in the Middle East isn't current as we all know. This goes back well before we ever existed and it will likely continue until well after we are gone. I wish I had some answers.

Does a person have to side with either? Suicide bombers = bad. Teaching children to write messages on bombs that will kill children on the other side = bad. Why does everything have to be so black and white?? Can we not admit that there is great evil (or whatever you want to call it) coming from both sides?? It sure makes solutions and prospects for peace a lot more difficult when you don't knnow who to side with, doesn't it?

I also wonder about how US/Saudi relations will hold......the Saudis are trying to get the US to intervene and the US has basically said no. -- It has also been suggested that much of Hezbollah is funded by Iran and that this sure is taking a lot of heat off of Iran and their nuclear program.....when's the last time we heard anything about that?? Or was that just a big scare to get us to hate them too? *shrug*

I am not siding with Israel or Hezbollah on this one.....it's all a big f'in mess. However, for Israel to bomb the f**k out of Beirut is an ill conceived plan of action. It has been suggested that by bombing in infrastructure and making life very hard for the Lebanese they will force the hand of Hezbollah and push them out. However, by doing this, do you think the people of Lebanon will say, "Israeli warplanes blew up my house and killed my mother.....get out Hezbollah!" or "Israeli warplanes blew up my house and killed my mother.....I am going to join Hezbollah!" ??
