Tweedy and Kotche constitute what I feel to be the most remarkable collaborators in the history of rock. Never has such an incredibly gifted songwriter dealt with such an amazingly unique musician. ....think: Lou Reed and Maureen Tucker...but better

Totally right, of course. The cursing I do on these message boards is not about Wilco disagreements, but rather, directed towards those making petty, factual corrections to anything you say, and doing it to try to look smarter than you, and to build a false sense of elitism. Man, I hate those people. But I love Wilco.

The naked nature of their lyrics wins me over, as does the catchiness of their melodies.

I mean, I'm a huge Strokes sucker, so of course I love FIOE. But it's definitely not representative of their talent at all. It's their attempt at more ambition, at sprawling out. It's the closest (hopefully) they will ever come to a double album or a reinvented artist album. I think it's pretty obvious that the strength of the band is in irresistibly melodic, quick, dense songs, and albums. FIOE def. has its moments of greatness though (You Only Live Once, Razorblade, On The Other Side). I have virtually no idea what to expect from them next.

You can hear strokes-sih influence. But it's so much more reassuring. The bitterness of Julian Casablancas is substituted for Hammond's soulful, soothing voice. There's increased instrumentation. It's very clean, and precise, like Strokes songs. Very dense too. Extremely Poppy. Brilliant.

Once again, this album is amazing. I absolutely can not listen to anything else. Wow. Favorite of 2006? Quite possibly.

They came across, quite simply, as easy rockers, but good ones at that.

I just caught this tour in Iowa City. Good stuff. The Death Ships put on a very energetic set. Jay was a little...lonely seeming? I can't help but think of how rough things are for him, and it makes watching him play somewhat painful. I reccomend going.

Just got it in from amazon UK. I'm listening to it a lot, it's really great. I reccomend picking it up as soon as soon as it gets a US release, or ordering it from overseas like I.

Seriously, yeah, it has been a while since AGIB came out. But think of all the non-LP activity since it came out. Tweedy has had his awesome run of solo touring. The Wilco Book has been released. The Solo DVD is near. Nels's side group "Damsel" has an album coming out this week. The band has played live quite a bit. Loose Fur has released an album. I'm sure there's plenty I'm forgetting. Basically, the point is that as Wilcophiles we have quite a bit to keep us interested, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Best of the year talk, eh? Obviously I don't agree, but it makes me look back on what has been in '06. My faves thus far are: The Strokes, The Flaming Lips (neither album was among the band's best, but i am a huge fan of both and love hearing something new), Destroyer, Dylan, Belle and Sebastian, Saves The Day, and Yo La Tengo

Wilco in the mainstream? I don't think that will ever happen. No music videos. No radio singles. I think that the media attention will reach new heights, which is practically unfathomable given the attention they already receive. Mainstream success, for Wilco, won't be possible unless they become available in more standard formats (again, TV, Radio).

I've listened to it, and am not wowed. It's good, but I don't think anything special. What does everyone else think?
