  1. The song that the title of this thread was derived from was the inspiration for The Jesus And Mary Chain's fourth album. On this day, Lou Reed performed his last gig with the Velvet Underground in 1970. (excluding reunion gigs)
  2. same here - Castaways is the standard I compare all the others to. The new one still sounds consistantly good after many listens. The end of Sons And Daughters is a bit too corny - even for The Decemberists.
  3. there's lots to choose from here. *The Denon & Technics models look pretty good.
  4. Goin' down to the corner Gonna have myself a drink Goin' down to the corner Gonna have myself a drink 'Cause that shit that we been usin' Sure confuse my thinking Gonna send out to the drugstore Buy myself a goat Tie him up in my front yard For all my so-called friends to see Ain't nobody gonna look in window and laugh at me I been up so long That it looks like down to me Please don't talk about to me when I'm gone Baby, are you against me too? Had a great idea the other night Come-A-Ti-Yi-Yippie, baby Look out When the blue of the night meets the gold of the day We love you We love yo
  5. You may be right. On the other hand - if someone made those allegations against me and claimed to have taped the alleged conversations as proof, I would probably call her bluff (rather than pay her million$ in a settlement). But that's just me being naive I guess.
  6. I stumbled out of bed I got ready for the struggle I smoked a cigarette And I tightened up my gut I said this can't be me Must be my double And I can't forget, I can't forget I can't forget but I don't remember what I'm burning up the road I'm heading down to Phoenix I got this old address Of someone that I knew was high and fine and free Ah, you should have seen us And I can't forget, I can't forget I can't forget but I don't remember who I'll be there today With a big bouquet of cactus I got this rig that runs on memories And I promise, cross my heart, They'll nev
  7. I wonder if that producer that he was stalking/harrassing was wearing a halter and miniskirt as well.
  8. I still put this one on occasionally. I think my favorite track is "Looking Glass" - that chorus is epic.
  9. Once upon a time the AK-47 provided some solace to anyone who defied the empire and who dared to march and hold a gun I remember walking through the jungle looking up through my new defoliated roof; Everybody said : "Ooh, run for cover" but I stood my ground cos I knew: There was nothing that could catch us there was nothing that could hurt us yeh, we'd inherit the earth As long as we kept that hatred in our heart as long as we could strike first With our AK-47 With the power of AK-47 Yeh, now things have changed it seems so far away that the war was something we could w
  10. Still drinking on the corner Just don't say I didn't warn you Always nagging big brother He's only looking out for you Tony The Pony Tony The Pony You're still standing on the corner Just don't say I didn't warn you Old and jealous big brother You had your time and you spent it Crying Now, Tony The Pony Tony The Pony So, that's what they call you now ? When you're free outside So cold and hard and in control And ... There's a free ride on Tony The Pony Oh, why do you always wanna stop me From doing the things in life that make me happy ? And when I'm outside with f
  11. My lonely mile Is charming from above Do not run my love No one is harming you Why do you dream Of strange men in aeroplanes And parachutes torn By wings of thorn Your lovely smile Should not be touched Do not sip this poison No one is hunting No fox and no horn Why do you fear What takes to the air Before it is born On wings of thorn
  12. Yeah, I was sort of taking that as a 'given'. I do know quite a few people who still buy vinyl though - new releases at that. It's not as unusual or rare as you might think. It's way below the top 40 radar, fer sure - but most independent-label artists (even many majors) still release their stuff on vinyl. Not too hard to find online, either. Aren't we all?
  13. Really? My son and his buddies are bigger vinyl snobs than I ever was. Come to think of it, the record stores I go to still seem pretty busy - and most of the customers seem pretty young. The truth is that most record stores will disappear. I would guess that 90% of people who used to go to stores weren't serious music fans - just casual listeners looking for the latest top 40 release, and are now happy to sit at home and get it online. Those customers are gone forever, and proportionally most of the retail stores with them. A small number of record stores will continue - even thrive, se
  14. You have two coffees One of them is one coffee too many for you On a health kick Trying to lead a middle-aged life Well, it's either that or drop dead Wait til you get older than this And then turn around and tell me I was young for my age Yeah And it feels like 1974 Waiting for the waves to come and crash on the shore But you're far inland You're in funky denim wonderland You and David Crosby and a bloke with no hand You've got hair in places Most people haven't got brains Ooh But it feels like 1974 Syd Barrett's last session, he can't sing anymore He's gonna have to be roger now for the
  15. Lots of repeat listening here. Great batch of songs on this. I was also impressed at how stripped down the production is. I had some concerns - considering this is their big label debut LP - that the label might have wanted some more 'production' happening.
  16. Actually it was Jack Clement who produced most of Johnny Cash's sun sessions. Don Law & Frank Jones handled the early '60s Columbia albums, then Bob Johnston... I personally haven't the slightest clue what Rick Rubin's inner thoughts are, nor do I care. What's important to me is that Cash's last albums are among his best work. Thankfully, his career didn't end with the mediocre product he put his name to when he was with Mercury Records back in the late '80s.
  17. Don't want to bury my head in the crutch of society, Perverted parent that takes my energy, Sucking me dry with your morals, your threats, Christ, your queen, your politics. Fucking hypersensitive, super realist humanity, I'm one of your super hybred community. Commutes the arsehole of economy. Watch out, watch out, it's all about, Reversion's setting in, and I can see you, Staring at me with your seizured brain, Trying to put me down the drain again. Well you're too smart, right from the start, I learned it well that the truth will tell, And you're done for, it's what the son's for, It's what
  18. I downloaded the demos before the album came out, mistakenly thinking it was the leaked album - and was blown away by it. I bought the record when it was released, and was left to wonder what the hell happened.
  19. I've got to know, yes, I've got to know, friend Hungry lips ask me wherever I go Comrades and friends all falling around me I've got to know, yes, I've got to know. Why do your war boats ride on my waters? Why do your death bombs fall from my skies? Why do you burn my farm and my town down? I've got to know, friend, I've got to know What makes your boats haul death to my people? Nitro blockbusters, big cannons and guns? Why doesn't your ship bring food and some clothing? I've sure got to know, folks, I've sure got to know Why can't my two hands get a good pay job? I can still plow, plant
  20. Exactly what I was about to post. It's a really good Johnny Cash record.
