  1. I don't really want to search, cause I wasn't into reading them in the first place. Scroll through any thread on the new record. You'll find em.
  2. Says the guy who is named Wilco LP#7, who has posted many negative expectations for the next record. I think sometimes fandom is actually a detriment for listening to music. I like that you're trying not to think what it will sound like, but that's kind of like trying not to imagine a painting you've never seen or trying not to imagine a city you've never been to. Sometimes, you just gotta relax and listen to music (I think this is what you're saying anyways).
  3. I agree with those two statements. The last one, more than anything posted on here. For this reason, I inherently disagree with any 'conclusive' attitude toward the situation. I have a preference, and it is the Swedish model. That doesn't for a moment keep me from taking your cautionary attitude to heart. Any measure- even the best, is risky. We are living in volatile times.
  4. Zing. The projects encompass much, more than transportation (which does impact the way goods are moved, and the people are moved to the goods and services, and the environmental impact and financial impact their travel has). There is about to be a historic investment in a diverse portfolio of locally grown, owned and innovated energy. Meanwhile broadband is soon to be expanded, bringing clerical efficiency (especially in the medical fields) with it. Again, the stimulus package is not one hundred percent perfect. It has flaws. Obama is not the messiah. He has flaws. But the core thinki
  5. I agree with your comment concerning American inefficiency. I have been a strong critic of the foibles of the U.S. auto-industry, and then share-holder driven tom foolery that helped cause them. I also agree that funneling public money into executives pockets does not help. That is not a very clear picture of the stimulus package as I understand it. It is most likely a very nasty side-effect of it. Sort of, as Barney Frank put it "Collateral benefit." Normally we call it damage, but its doing what we need to be doing, and unfortunately it benefits some real jerks. Meanwhile, there is
  6. If we were to just let business 'sort itself out' every major bank would close. We all know what happened last time the government sat around and let banks close. The idea missing from the last back and forth about the stimulus, I think is this: Capital, or money is not fixed. If you try to make a fulcrum model where haves are going up and have-nots are going down a proportionate amount, you have an inaccurate picture. The same can go for the relationship between wealth and goods and services. It is wise to be cautious of creating a bubble (toxic assets, adjustable rate mortgages etc)
  7. Holy shit balls!!! This is a remarkable discovery. I have to admit, when I read the first post that mentioned it I thought someone was taking the piss. Wow. I've never heard Jeff Tweedy sing a duet with a girl.
  8. Was that Tweedy screaming "I'm gonna fucking lose it!"? Looks like some funny moments between some serious talents.
  9. I'm tempted to find an oxymoronic way to imply aggressive apathy toward something. How bout this: MEH!!! I have a friend who does this: SO???? (but it's hard to type, you can't say it like a little kid, you have to say it like a surly mid-western rural type, comes out more like "sow")
  10. Yeah Monster is my pre-spring jam. Feels like spring, bounces like spring. How about that warm weather.
  11. He played on the last Joan of Arc record as well. He strikes me as an incredibly gracious, amiable and talented multi-instrumentalist that people are happy to have. The kind of guy that adds the perfect ego-less spice to someone's musical stew (kind of a Jorgensen). I wouldn't be surprised to find his name deep in the liner notes of many, many more albums to come.
  12. While we're idly speculating I will say that the album will be done by mid April, if not earlier. It seems most luxurious budgets have bands mixing about a song a day. Any more than that would be the result of a real disaster, or conflict ('a subset of HMD'). I will also guess that the greater presence of Jim Scott at the controls will make for a slightly more typical modern rock recording sound than SBS, but then again it's Wilco, there's bound to be some analog coziness to the sound. All idle, so very idle.....
  13. Yes dead people. No seriously: Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, George Clooney, Angelica Huston,
  14. I think that a lot of people who are responsible for the worst, biggest, chunk of this disaster will be the last to feel its sting. That cruel irony aside I think a lot of what put the U.S. in its current economic situation is an attitude that transcends class or political affiliation. It is so true that it sounds trite: short sighted -ness, buy now/pay later, any growth is good growth etc. From naive people buying explode-able mortgages to greedy fat cats trading them. I mean shit, do you think Detroit would have taken a dump if investors didn't have so much control over corporations? E
  15. I gave this movie a mixed review on my silly little blog when it was in theaters. Seeing it again months later I felt a little more affection for it. The thing is with this movie (maybe all Anderson movies) if you can't emotionally relate to some of the characters he still gets you 80% of the way to awesome with his production design alone (so ornate and distinctive). That said, the social psychology of the brothers, mother etc. felt more interesting to me the second time. We'll see how "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" turns out.
  16. You've obviously never made an album. Unless you're a militant studio engineer whose tastes are dictated by a methodical work flow- 90% of your favorite albums are overdubbed a lot. There are some wonderful albums recorded mostly live, but to suggest that there is any lack of amazing albums with lots of overdubs would be almost like ignoring the last forty years of popular music.
  17. Man! That article did nothing but give me more questions (as intended?). They listed like eight songs. Wilco has historically recorded a half a dozen songs more than they need for an album. I wonder if they did that this time, or if they recorded 12 and they're releasing 12 kind of story. I do know that I'm disappointed that TJ Doherty isn't taking a greater role in engineering the album. I think he's just been doing overdubs at the Loft, but didn't make it to NZ. Meanwhile did they start off in New Zealand like this: "Okay, band meeting. First thing: attendance. Jiff?" "Present
  18. What is the substance of this Wilco as activists conversation? Is it the Record Store Day thing, or the review of the film that discusses its view of a changing American landscape and culture? As far as I'm concerned having something released exclusively at indie stores on a special day for them isn't all that political. It's just awesome. Going to the record store is awesome, and I will have a special reason to do it that day. As far as the larger view of "Ashes" as it was described in the review- if you can't hang with meditations on the meaning(s) of America and how it changes then y
  19. This needs to be owned by me on vinyl. Does that happen?
  20. I think "Fever" is one of the most original sounding recordings I've heard in ages.
  21. What's this? A new piece of Wilco media comes out and I don't even feel tempted to buy it. I'm not the dork I thought I was.
  22. I've heard it 1.5 times and I gotta say it is gorgeous. That woman is a genius. Some of the sonic territory she's treading is so bold. I won't stack it up to her other stuff (I felt like Fox Confessor continued to reveal more to me a year down the road) but I will say that it is superb. I also agree that it is fairly short, and a little sleepy. But it is also amazing.
