Jesus christ this thread never dies, it's like "The Price is Right" someone should change the name to "Haze the Newb".

This part of the conversation all hinges on why albums actually leak. Do they leak when the promo copies are sent to journalists (typically one month in advance it seems) or do they leak after it is mastered and there are about four or five engineers that have their hands on a copy because they worked on it in some respect. It just takes one of those dudes giving it to a friend, and that friend posting it, or giving it to another friend and BOOM. I think both happen. Maybe some are leaked on purpose, or balooned so to speak.

Bad idea, unless you live in Kearny Nebraska or comparable town.

The Ashes audio tracks have SICK sound quality
lost highway replied to Clint09eastwood's topic in Just A Fan
The approach of the mix is definitely a lot different than the Kicking TV set. I would easily call KTV one of the best sounding live records ever. But what we get hear is someone whose hog wild about their skill as an ensemble. Glenn's crotales smack you in the face, John's bass is huge and rich- all the little arrangement spice is accentuated. This puts the vocals a little less up front, but they are definitely audible. As an engineer and a music fan I find the Ashes stuff speaks to my sensibilities a little more, but that's no knock on KTV. -
True that. Over half of the tracklisting has been played live (thankfully half of that was solo so it's a little different). All they would have to do is debut one new tune that hasn't been heard yet and a taper, or video taper would get it and we would all hear it. If I remember correct they kept "You Are My Face" hidden in the loft until right around the time of the release, which was smart because it was bound for the 'Wilco's greatest hits' category and was one of the more breath taking additions to the SBS tracklist. The other thing to keep in mind when getting impatient is that t

I hope there is an easy way to get in the front 20 rows. Last time I bought tickets the day they went on sale and we ended up way back. People swear there isn't a bad seat in the house but Red Rocks gets awful quiet in the back half. I like the sound better after scooting my way up to the front at the Fillmore, but Red Rocks is always a beautiful place in the summer. Either way, I'm there.

Ah Ha! Thanks guys. Also, it seems this stuff works better in Firefox than Safari, or maybe it's my coincidence.

Yeah the Ashes tracks were cake for me but the DC show I'm not sure. I 'ordered' it. It shows I 'ordered' it but I don't know how to actually download the thing.

just noticed this on wilcoworld: "The still-untitled Wilco album has been mastered, and the sequence is as follows: Wilco The Song Deeper Down One Wing Bull Black Nova You And I You Never Know Country Disappeared Solitaire I'll Fight Sunny Feeling Everlasting Dark Neon The release is currently scheduled for late June on Nonesuch." Dark Neon? That's another new name to me.

I wonder what's gonna pop up after they finish the site and you click on 'Loft'.

Oh.... I think I see where this is going. The 'huddled masses' kind of idea. You know like "Wilco will love you baby", all of the people in line, the band is shining beacon of light etc. etc. (?)

OOOOOh Red Rocks volume 2. That's awesome.

It seems the few openers for big touring shows like this, who haven't gotten butt hurt or gone down in flames have put out a tone of "Oh, hey we're the other band that's playing- which you don't care about. If you half way enjoy us we are so honored." Opening for big acts is always tough unless you are one.

I can't wait to hear exactly what that entails. I smell a funloving/silly aspect to the album art this time around..... or maybe there will be serious pictures of people from Milwaukee in their liner notes.

It is this very backhanded pretension, this swaggering dismissal of someone who does not agree with what is at least a very difficult theory to explain, that makes conspiracy theorists look like abrasive wing nuts. I do not believe, nor have I seen evidence to believe that Obama is destroying the dollar to unveil a global currency. I do know that if I did believe that, I would put it across with a little more evidence and a little less snottiness. I like my local public radio's quote of "If you think you fully understand this economy then you do not understand this economy."

Taking bets on how soon it leaks.... I've got 10 to 1 odds on this week, 5 to 1 on the end of April, if you want to play it safe boys we've got 2 to 1 odds on mid May here....

I'm pretty sure if you get the DVD anywhere you will get audio tracks from the DVD. Historically Wilco World has put up and maintained bonus tracks for any of the releases which only require inserting the cd (or DVD) into your computer to access.

I'm going to my local record store on 4/18 to find out. Woo hoo.

I went in Boulder last night. Wow. I can honestly say it exceeded my expectations. This has the makings of being up there, top ten concert films (but then again, I only think about a half a dozen are truly that good). The composition in some of the shots was gorgeous. The footage from outside of the concerts was also great. Something about the vibe of the sound-check performance of Wishful Thinking was awe inspiring. I'd put it up there with the rehearsal footage of Jesus etc. from IATTBYH. All in all it reaffirmed why Wilco is one of my favorite acts. There is something life-affirmi

It's all about the vinyl with the download code. MP3's you can burn or throw on an ipod and a big fat chunk of gatefold art with a slab of vinyl inside. That's how I like to see it done.

Jeff Tweedy The Post Punk, Rock and Roll Troubadour
lost highway replied to Panther's topic in Just A Fan
Ha! I got my chronology wrong- I believe it preceeds two of their best. -

Might be the worst Sonic Youth record. But it's sandwiched between two of the best. I think anyone who has put in years doing anything creative (writing, painting, songwriting, whatever) can tell you you never know. Genius, or mediocrity are always around the corner. People's predictions of these forecasted trends in someones creative abilities have no bearing on my experience of reality. Long career artists have shown how often the quality control can sink, and then skyrocket (the Boss, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, even the Beatles).
