  1. I wanna make sure all you night club goers know better than to put a pistol in a pair of sweat pants....
  2. My cats breath smells like cat food.
  3. Good call. This was actually an instance where I was turned on to the band because of critics. Not a bad record by any means, just felt a little 'lite'. Incidentally, have any of you ever heard a band called Elbow. I was just put on to them. Not necessarily the same as the National stuff, but I could see a fan of one enjoying the other. Pretty interesting/melodic stuff.
  4. No. Those are different tunes, most of which were recorded before Kotche got on board. The big noise came in after the demo's.
  5. It's about energy drinks, Monster mostly.
  6. It would be a perfect experiment: Start thread with title linking highly controversial and personal idea and Wilco. Allow members to link idea to Wilco for 1-2 pages. Then watch as controversial idea takes over and a sometimes civil, sometimes rude and other times hilarious debate circles round for 50 pages with little mention of Wilco.
  7. This album was so burdened by its critical praise by the time it landed on my ipod that it was hard to listen to it with a blank slate. It struck me as good but not great. A sort of Nick Cave for the latte crowd..... a more ballady Interpol maybe.
  8. Oh! Hi Wilco's new album. We've all been talking a lot about you. What are you into?
  9. Wow that is some powerfully medieval neurosis at work. Do you practice self flagellation? It does us no service to mistrust our bodies. The natural world is dynamic and plentiful, it is not only the cause but the very grounds of our every experience. Mistrust of the natural and the body itself is based only on fear of impermanence. We fear death and decay, so when our bodies exhibit these tendencies we call them names like "beast" or "evil". Evil is a purely human invention, it has no fundamental root in nature. The very subjectivity of its definition (as seen in a cross-cultural comp
  10. 2. You are a dualist. 3. Some call that the psyche. A soul is immortal, sentient experience both waking and dreaming can be considered part of an impermanent center of perception called 'the self'.
  11. I can relate to a lot of your gripes, they are a bit jock rock and nothing they've done lately has pleased my ears all that much. I think where you're wrong is that albums like S/T and the Colour and the Shape will be remembered fondly for being good nineties rock music. That said, they are unusual to be the efforts of a drummer after his famous rock band expired. The only drummer I can think of that was so successful as songwriter/band leader after his band expired is Phil Collins.
  12. I find all acoustic guitars sound honky through tube amps and I don't mean that ethnically. I love my M1 direct, there are others that are also good but M1 is top shelf.
  13. I've met him. He is a super nice dude. I'm sure he has a similarly famous musician sized ego as a lot of folks. This might all be part of a Kanye/Fifty Cent type feud that could boast bigger record sales for Foo Fighters and Wilco in 2009. (Insert false gossip of feud here to boost word of mouth publicity)
  14. I return to the universal doctrine of love proclaimed by the Holy ones and inscribed upon thine Via Chicago discussion board: "Wilco will love you baby." So it has been written. So it shall be done.
  15. Now there is a man whose convictions I can look up to. Do you know he had a meditation/therapy retreat camp for American Vets of the Vietnam War? Hanh is Vietnamese and survived the war, witnessing many atrocities committed by American troops.
  16. I thought it was funny. But seriously, I had a Sociology professor who either created or quoted (can't recall) the phrase: "You can tell someone believes something when they behave as if it were true." The evangelical instinct goes back and forth for me. Is it the result of an insecurity, the human need to have belief confirmed in the experience of every peer, or is it truly an effort to share something you believe is true and good for everyone? I think neither an atheist nor a believer can answer that question accurately. In my close experience with Buddhists (having been one) and Jew
  17. I think in the right atmosphere Low has an incredible energy. I saw them headline and it was incredible- during the quiet parts you could hear a pin drop in that theatre. It is quite possible they didn't have that sort of prowess as an opener. It's the same deal as when Wilco opens for Neil and seems less remarkable. An opening act has a tough line to tow: often folks are still filing in, usually the mix is not as complimentary. I think a lot of great bands give the wrong impression simply because they are opening. It seems a rare treat that someone is converted by an opener.
  18. They have filmed some shows. The Burn to Shine crew was on a leg of their tour a while back. Sadly, no juicy rumors have popped up about a release. I keep thinking about how in interviews when they were releasing the deluxe addition of SBS, Burn to Shine's Brendan Canty said they had intended to film the recording of SBS but got to Chicago right when the band was finished. Maybe they got their on time for this album and the band will combine live and studio footage. I've read nothing to back this up, just a x-mas wish, Virginia.
  19. Yeah, that was one of their strongest TV performances by far.
  20. Also, if I answer any questions on the tapeop board right it down on a legal pad and hang it next to your computer But seriously, sometimes when I am just thinking about an issue I will search it on that board and it usually yields ten minutes of informative reading.
