  1. But it has. I disagree with Obama's gung-ho Pakistan destruction policy. Some people here are for it. Some people think Putin is a real threat, some think he's just sitting around. These are complicated issues that have a lot of implications (like the bail-out for example). But the fact that so many people are unanimously judging on one issue: Sarah Palin's intelligence might reflect on how un-complicated of an issue that is. She is uncomplicated. She is a total moron. I think there's easily 15 people on here that could debate her into the dirt with out going to 'debate camp', and I wo
  2. Yeah without even trying I could be interviewed and think...... hmmmm, what sounds good? The Economist
  3. The issue of McCain's foreign policy expertise is an interesting one. As he boldly illustrated at the debate, he has an extensive knowledge of U.S. military history and a number of large and small operations abroad. What I find disturbing is the fact that he is constantly and exclusively viewing our big world through a military lense. He would often get off topic and start to drop historical references and change his focus to another country. His tone sounded like an intellectual veteran coaching his grandchild in a game of Risk, or Axis and Allies. You could almost see him licking his ch
  4. Interesting. The public school system gave me a lot of emphasis on WWII, Christopher Columbus (mythology in elementary school and modern perspective in high school), The Great Depression and the Industrial Revolution. I think something else happened one time in Africa or Asia, but it's hard to be sure with my background. It probably will be many years though before high schoolers digest the 8 years of faux pas called the Bush administration. Poli Sci classes in college are already eating it for breakfast (eeew you eat shit for breakfast?)
  5. Your gonna wanna put that in slowly..... its got edges.
  6. It also prevents game hunters from making trophies out of an at-risk species. I would love to see some numbers about how much wolves are costing farmers in injured/killed/ or deliciously eaten live stock. I heard on NPR Palin wanted to pay hunters $150.00 for bringing in a wolf leg. What's next a nationalized polar bear tooth trade? Holy shit.....
  7. Did you notice how McCain defensively backed towards her, like: "oh shit, she's trying to give an intelligent response. Maybe if I stand closer my professionalism will rub off."
  8. Well everyone knows the last time God was on the side of the Republicans was during abolition. Since the start of World War II the great and infinite father of fathers has sided closely with the democrats and most of the natural disasters on U.S. soil has been the Lord's way of punishing America for falling into the grips of a republican leader. If you are uncertain of this kind of favoritism please consult the book of Exodus.
  9. Fair enough. Cut spending by 9 trillion. Bye bye post office, library, school and hospital.
  10. The role religion has played in history; politically, philosophically, morally and spiritually is of such great variety that anyone who can respond to 'religion's' worth in one sentence is an oaf. As for the film, I'm hoping it hones in on religious extremism and manipulation. Then contrasts that to a more mainstream religious society to show how the word religion can mean weekly prayer and orange juice with the neighbors and it can also mean strapping a bomb to your chest.
  11. No you're right. He is most honestly a hawk and portrays himself to be so. John McCain really believes the best way to fix the world is with bullets, military is the beginning and end of his perspective on everything. The only comments he could muster on any other programs is to say that they should be cut. I reiterate for the up-teenth time: How do you get rid of a deficit by continuing tax cuts and furthering military ambitions?
  12. Yeah, me too. I was getting emotional, it's ridiculous. I felt a sense of relief when he **spoiler alert** proposed at the gas station in the rain.
  13. ***1/2 out of five. Enjoyable. Last season started out slow too, and got more and more brilliant. Some episodes of the show seem to keep me glued on soap opera details alone, and the laughs are just a bonus. When a man in his mid twenties is excited to discuss Jim and Pam's engagement you know the setup was well executed.
  14. Wow. That was good. I asked only because the Burn to Shine crew documented the band at several shows, which seemed to be legitimate enough effort to warrant a new, official DVD (not a boot leg or an already existing dvd). I seem to recall someone from the crew mentioned a winter release (not sure there). Often with these things, the official word escapes the vault before it is sent. I was only idly speculating because I am a fan of the band and I was curious. Now after some snippiness the whole conversation seems silly. And no, I haven't gotten my answer, but I wasn't sure it was ther
  15. I love how you get me. That is the one that I mean.
  16. The one that they shot last. The one that's not out. Wiseacre!
  17. When I left town for the weekend this thread was looking stimulating and respectful. It took a swing into a-hole territory. Oh well, people get touchy about this stuff.
  18. Right, but what ever happened with the DVD?
  19. Maybe so, but SBS wins (losthighway winces expecting beer bottle to fly towards his head).
  20. I think so. In fact, I think Paul distorted the nature or Christianity quite a bit. Usually the more silly or disgusting things people call Christian strike me as being more Pauline than anything else. It's important to remember the Gospel as the 'good news'.
  21. I would argue that in general religion in the U.S. suffers from an overall lack of spirituality. This does not mean that it is not present, or that their are not deeply spiritual religious people in this country. I mean to say that most people that would check a box in a survey indicating that they are religious, likely a christian, would not walk through their day with any sense of illumination, or personal connection to the infinite. I have heard Christian speakers regard books like John's gospel as something to be taken with a grain of salt because it is so 'spiritual'. (look out!). A
