  1. That right there is the logic gap, that seems to come out of everyone who is anti-socialized health care. You don't pay for them on your premium. You pay for them on your taxes. Your premium is through the roof cause the chairman of the board for the company that provides your health care wants a new yacht and his kid is ready for his second Ferrari and god damn it if you don't want to spend a hundred dollars just to get some albuterol for your coal power-plant, blackened lungs.
  2. Some day you will see a VCer at a Wilco show wearing shorts. And down the back of their leg these letters will appear in the form of a tattoo.
  3. No really. I pay $30 a month. That's my current health insurance plan. As to the rest of your knowledge, I absolutely agree that this nation is spending too much on health care, but again that is due in part to receiving health care from massive, private , corporations. The spending is getting bigger, not only as the need for care increases, but also as companies continue to gouge people and the corporate drug industry gets greedier. Take out all the mechanisms for profit and make it an efficient system that collects only what it needs to function (not profit) and it doesn't have to loo
  4. I pay $30 a month for insurance in case something catastrophic happens. I've been to the Dr. once in the last five years and it turned out I didn't even need to. People like me (I know a lot of them) could make everything cheaper for everyone, so the less fortunate, and the elderly could have an easier shot at getting taken care of. And everyone can pay less. Again the cost of paying for something to sustain it, and paying for it so that corporate schmucks can turn record profits are two very different pictures.
  5. We can smell a rat from around a mountain (hmm-mmm Palin). The Owl is a universal symbol of wisdom. If you slander them your efforts will be thwarted with bad ju-ju.
  6. Loose Fur (s/t) is full of great moments. It feels somewhat ad hoc, probably because they just tossed off some songs. What makes it amazing is that it is still so freaking good. AGIB was made with a little more effort on big picture. Wasn't quite as improvised. Probes a little deeper. Might be one of my top ten albums of all time. The other poll was a toss up. This is a no-brainer. AGIB is the best.
  7. I disagree with the donkey as mascot. Come on, get a good one. Democrats need to be owls not jackasses.
  8. The important thing for people with good health care (and money to pay for it) need to remember, is socialized health care doesn't make paying for fancy pants health care illegal. Obama's plan sounds a bit more moderate than what we call 'socialized health care' and it would probably effect people with decent health care less than people with. The cost seems like a concern. But, when you consider an insurance company as a business overall, and break down what makes insurance expensive the cost of universal health care seems reasonable. An insurance company is inevitably populated with a d
  9. I found Mulholland more watchable. Yes surreal and random but I could almost make an analysis, some kind of metaphorical way to take in a story line. Inland was just as weird, less fun, and still weirder. Then bunnies looked great though. Never saw Dumbland.
  10. Townes is freaking amazing, most 'country music' is horrible. Uncle Tupelo is awesome, most 'alt country' is weak. I'd say you could plug new names into those sentences and write them about 20 times before you'd run out of candidates. This seems to be true of all genres.
  11. Yeah. I feel Inland Empire might be his weakest, of the recent efforts.
  12. I'm not trying to start a post-modern genres are illusion discussion. (cause we all know they are somewhat but are useful as handles), but I never really put Being There down as "alt-country". It has some obviously country songs, but so many other things going on. Earle's El Corazon seems like one of his strongest albums to me. I would put it above Jerusalem, The Revolutions Starts Now, Guitartown. But if you want to talk about Earle doing alt-country, or really country rock (fucking genres) its all about I Feel Alright.
  13. "Bettin on the bullllllllll in the heather." I love Kim songs. I like her a little better sultry than screamy, but either way she's awesome. I hear people complain about Lee Renaldo songs, but I also enjoy those.
  14. Hey Colorado is a blue state now. I aims to keep it that way with multi-culturalism, progressive thinking....... well Denver is liberal.
  15. Sorry if this came up already. But from CNN our boy Obama has got class: MONROE, Michigan (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama said firmly that families are off-limits in the campaign for president, reacting to news that GOP running mate Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. Sen. Barack Obama campaigns in Monroe, Michigan, on Monday. "Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential pe
  16. Los billetes para el avion son demasiado caro.
  17. Yeah, kind of a low blow. If she turns out to have lied about a child that will effect her credibility, but anyone who touches this stuff publicly is going to look like a real jerk. Obama won't touch this with a 10 ft pole.
  18. Okay before we see a new thread called: The election thread for real, for real. Maybe someone wants to verbally battle out their abortion feelings on a Pro Choice vs. Pro Life subtext "where does a male fit into the choice" thread. I want to know what you guys think Obama wants to do with, for, or to the new citizens coming in to our country and if you like his take on it. Or what about guesses on what he'd like to do/not do involving Iran.
  19. Barack Obama's Plan Create Secure Borders From his site: "Obama wants to preserve the integrity of our borders. He supports additional personnel, infrastructure and technology on the border and at our ports of entry. Improve Our Immigration System Obama believes we must fix the dysfunctional immigration bureaucracy and increase the number of legal immigrants to keep families together and meet the demand for jobs that employers cannot fill. Remove Incentives to Enter Illegally Obama will remove incentives to enter the country illegally by cracking down on employers who hire undocumented imm
  20. I'm not all that clear myself. I was hoping for the same. His comment on it in the speech seemed, shall I say 'nebulous'. I'll look it up on the world wide world, but meanwhile maybe someone who knows will sound off?
  21. Obama on Immigration? Whatcha think?
  22. Are you suggesting you have the studio recording of Let's Fight?
  23. Yeah, the abortion thing. In the end it's a highly personal issue that some sleazy right wing candidates trump to convince less astute voters (who should be perusing a list of more important and effective political stances) to vote for their sorry asses. Bush cried on about overturning Roe V. Wade all the way to the church and every dumb ass who reads the bible as science voted for him. He luckily was unable to ruin a woman's right to choose and all the yokels that based their vote on it didn't read the fine print of his first DISASTROUS FOUR YEARS IN THE WHITE HOUSE! Opinions on abortion
  24. This kind of rhetoric is divisive and can only weaken the unity of the party.
