  1. Just got back from the show.... we were third row, dead center. Best seats I'll probably ever have anywhere, for the rest of my life. I can die happy now.
  2. Tonight is my first "official" Wilco show! I saw Jeff at the Spreckels here in San Diego last February, and I saw the band at Lollapalooza last year. But my wife and I are going tonight to the SDSU Open Air Theatre, and we've got primo seats! Anybody have any advice regarding that venue for parking, hiccups, etc? Thanks in advance! Jonathan
  3. ...has been in my car CD player for the last week or so. It's also the second wilco album I bought. I went backwards chronologically from YHF.
  4. Eh, my topic title and description say exactly what I mean. I feel like Rob Mitchum has done his research.
  5. Not only do Wilco hate the environment, but I heard they hate the troops, too. (I'm a navy vet, and my wife is currently deployed to the south pacific, so I can joke...)
  6. I don't own a TV anymore...so that kinda helps me get over this commercial business. Seriously -- it's one of the best things I ever did. I just wish I could have blown it up like John Prine recommended.
  7. Don't forget -- being musicians and artists is their job. Call it selling out, call it making a buck, or whatever...they do what they do so they can put food on the table. What do you expect? Do you want them to give their music away for free so they can work the checkout line at the grocery store? That being said, I don't expect you'll see any of the bandmates showing their house on MTV Cribs anytime soon. (Ok, is that last sentence even relevant? Is that show still on?) Even Dylan did an ad for Victoria's Secret.
  8. I definitely hear a lot of Wilco on SBS.
  9. This is probably why the boys in Wilco don't smash their guitars. Guitars are expensive, man!
  10. This is probably why the boys in Wilco don't smash their guitars. Guitars are expensive, man!
  11. I agree... I feel it's nothing to get excited about.
  12. I'm speechless. I'm without speech.
  13. Many, many thanks, everyone. That is such a haunting, cool tune. Sags
  14. A couple of months ago, someone posted a pet sounds/yhf demo mashup of IATTBYH and You Still Believe in Me. Is that still available? It's the strangest thing...I was walking my dog the other day in the park out here in San Diego, and it just popped into my head after several months...(especially the part, "I wanna cryyyyyy....") Thanks! Sags
  15. I'm kinda proud that I've started a discussion that's lasted two pages. I've been a lurker on a couple of boards (sports, music, etc., including this one) for a couple of years, but this is the first time that I've sprouted such a fruitful post. God bless the innurnets!!! (Oh, and please slow down the music. I can't drive 55!)
  16. Is it annoying that it's sped up, or is it annoying that I pointed it out? Hope I didn't ruin any of these versions for anyone. I've read a few people say they hadn't noticed it until this thread. I agree with the person who wrote, "my favorite thing about Wilco is when I see them live." That's a good sentiment.
  17. My original point was that I can't stand songs that are always sped up. I love variation -- different instruments, arrangements, etc. Just the tempo... Rarely are songs played too slow. It's usually the other way around. [Exception: Ryan Adams nearly brought all of his songs to a standstill at Lollapalooza.]
  18. I kinda feel that artists that play the studio versions slower on stage are doing it on purpose. In other words...they're kinda smart enough to know that it's a different experience for the listener if it's slowed down. Dylan (and The Band live stuff) is a great example. I'll back off my 90% claim...but I still think 75% is played too fast... ...unless it's lyp-synched, of course. Then it's "gots-to-be" perfect! Sags
  19. My mind is ruled by an internal clock. It's my curse. I've always been musically inclined, and it KILLS me when bands (90% of the time) play their tunes faster live than the studio version. Take, for example, IATTBYH off of the KT album. Could they play it any faster? I played in a blues band for a while (while in the navy)... and I know it's adrenaline which causes them to play faster. But, dammit -- I've got YHF and Being There memorized, and when I hear the live versions, it drives me crazy. These guys are professionals. Slow down fellas!!! I know you wanna get your post-gig dri
  20. I think I have the highest "threads-killed-with-final-post" to "total posts" ratio on this board. Why do I have such a poisonous touch?
  21. Guy Clark - Cold Dog Soup I love the line: "Ain't no money in poetry...that's what sets the poet free...I've had all the freedom I can stand." Oh, and Jerry Lee Lewis, "Live at the Star Club, Hamburg." Greatest live album ever recorded, bar none.
  22. I think Mr. Tweedy is embracing his inner Van Morrison.
  23. My wife and i are doing the same thing! &$%# Cubs.... We're flying in from Hawaii ($$$) and staying at the youth hostel ($)...so it all balances out in the end, I guess. At least the hostel is right next to the park.
