  1. Knowing Quest Field that won't work but good suggestion. I am going to try craigslist day of.
  2. A good debate about U2's intentions. I will add a couple of other points. I hugely admire Bono's work on behalf of and advocacy for the millions in Africa who are sick and poor or both. That said, am I the only one to see the huge contradiction in the massive carbon footprint of this tour (three massive separate stages et all)? If global climate change is a reality (and that what most scientists in that field believe) the people in Africa who already live in some of the most water-sensitive countries anywhere will suffer disproportionately. Oh I am sure they have bought carbon offsets bu
  3. I was curious to see what the much-hyped $30 ticket would buy me at Seattle's Qwest Stadium next June? I expected a seat in the nosebleeds. What was offered was far worse - a seat in the nosebleeds behind the band. $30 for a view of the 'thingy' and a video-screen. Even more galling was the next price point - $57.50 was basically the same area. The 360 Degree Stage which is only really a 360 degree video screen is just a rouse to rake in the dough. Friends of mine who paid $100 for a ticket have the luxury of a nose-bleed with a view. For a band who have "marketed" themselves as being a
  4. What a way to enliven a rainy Monday. Thanks Wilco.
  5. Brilliant version. Is it Pat or Nel's doing the classic rock noodling on this?
  6. Is it just me or is the sound-quality today just freakin fantastic today? Jeff's voice is a wee bit high in the mix. Otherwise, pretty flawless. Via Chicago/Poor Places > Spiders - the distortion and feedback is tremendous. Likewise the end to "Handshake Drugs".
  7. Ah shit. my connection has finally dried-up. I have really enjoyed this. How many bands do this for their fans. Magic. (Wish they'd go one step further and sell CD's/Downloads of the soundboard recordings from each show. Brilliant, Back on. Eager to hear "Spiders" next....
  8. U2 haven't made a great record since Achtung Baby and after the last 3 efforts which range from decent/lukewarm (All That You Can't...), terrible (How To Dismantle...) and lame "No Line on The Horizon" have become a younger version of the Rolling Stones. Artistically irrelevant but a commercial behemoth when it comes to tours. (Add in the fact that the size of this stage show seems totally inappropriate in a world wading through a global recession and getting to grips with climate change. And the fact that no pop star is responsible for greater verbal diarrhea than Bono in the last few years
  9. Add New Pornographers to that list. Agreed. With the exception of the Who. Allowing Who classics to be used in commercials isn't about Pete Townsend needing extra lucre to research more child porn. It's just a massive FU to the preciousness of the fans who made him so rich in the first place. Contrary motherfooka he is!
  10. Also that was the Tweedy solo show at the Moore. Given that the Seahawks were playing in their first-ever Superbowl a little hometown enthusiasm wasn't that surprising. I forget his exact put-down but it was priceless along the lines of "This is a folk show. Imagine going to see Donovan in the late sixties and shouting out for Man Utd". Funny and erudite. And good know you can have a big knowledge of sports and of music.
  11. I'd rather have a slightly rowdy crowd than a sedate one any day. Jeff's a first-class dismisser of hecklers which adds to my enjoyment of a show. I'll promise to shout out something ridiculous in Victoria if the rest of the crowd go to sleep.
  12. Isn't the term Mass Murderer sufficient for now? From the early reports he seemed like a very conflicted, tortured soul. When labels are tossed around indiscriminately they lose their meaning. And instead of pausing to mourn the terrible loss of life and then taking an even longer time to find out why this happened people waste time in pointless debates like this.
  13. By the way, I am from across the Tay in Angus. If I tell you my team got beat 5-4 by East Fife in a score made famous by the gravitas of the fitba score announcer years ago you'll know where I from. Evangelical is a good way of putting it. Aye, I think when you see them live your love for them definitely goes up a notch or six. Of bands, I have seen in the last 5 or 6 years only the Arcade Fire and the Flaming Lips have put on better shows. Aside from the aforementioned bands ability to put on a "performance", I think it's hard for anyone to touch Wilco musically. How many bands can go fro
  14. Thanks a lot for the tip on the bus and all the information. I think the hotel stay might go from one night to two or three and we'll see if we can sell our tkts for the following weekend and take in an event or two and the outdoors Wilco show on the 13th. A couple of good books for all the ferries and buses and we are set. I reckon that the Vancouver show could be fantastic or terrible. 20,000 Canadians and others full of the Olympic spirit (and probably lots of beer, spirits and a wee bit of ganga) could make for a memorable show one way or the other. Stoked for both the Paramount an
  15. Thanks for the tip on Victoria. Hotel lined up there - hopefully tickets later today. Looks like it's a smallish, intimate venue with potentially great acoustics. Any idea of how easy it is to go from the Ferry Terminal in B.C. (Tsawwassen) to downtown Vancouver? Maybe, the popularity of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver is inevitable given Canadians love for Winter Sports but what a rip off for ordinary folks. We have some tickets for a hockey game the following weekend which doesn't feature a big nation and they were still $200 US each. Hotels anywhere close to Vancouver are exorbitant a
  16. I am a lucky man. Scottish but living in the States I get to see one of the best bands of the last fifteen years a lot more often and easily than my compatriots. I am slightly perplexed as to why Wilco don't have a bigger profile in Britain. At this point, they could use a relatively popular hit on Radio 2, followed by a decent slot at Glastonbury, a killer performance there, followed by good press on said performance and then a tour which is a lot bigger than 3 or 4 cities and one that completely misses some of the best audiences in the world (in Scotland). Really glad that Leeds was a fu
  17. I'd be very surprised if it is Grizzly Bear. Seattle sold out. The question is now whether we do Victoria and then try and go to Vancouver for the free show. Problem being that because of the Winter Olympics that trying to stay in VAncouver on Saturday night will be nigh impossible. Dear listeners, any suggestions on how to bum a coach for the night.
  18. Curiousity got the better of me. With due deference to those who did the pre-order on I-Tunes, I found it on a blog: http://iguessimfloating.net/assets/mp3s/12%20Dark%20Neon.mp3 I hope I am not breaking any rules here. Had it been available on I-Tunes for 99 cents I would have definitely bought it.
  19. Probably a calculated guess to sell more records or concert tickets based on which artists have most cross-over appeal at this time. U2 are the Stones for this decade. Artistically irrelevant but commercially a juggernaut. It would seem that Metallica approached this right way drawing on artists like Lou Reed and Black Sabbath who have a direct lineage to the the two genres from which they sprung (Metal and Punk). It's funny to think that in some ways U2 in 1988/1989 would have been a lot more up for the task when riding the crest of "Joshua Tree' they successfully incorporated "People Get
  20. Any VCer's interested in helping out myself and my g/f with accommodation after the free Wilco show in Vancouver on Feb 13? We'd be happy to reciprocate with a similar arrangement for the Seattle show at the Paramount show on February 10. (We live within an east 15 minute car ride / 25 minute bus ride of the Paramount). We'd love to take in the Wilco show amongst the Winter Olympic festivities but are finding that accommodation is incredibly expensive because of the Oympics.
  21. Did the same thing. Floor seats will be standing. Or they were the last time Wilco played there in 2004 and for most other shows I have seen there. Ach, you will have a blast. Don't know if you have been before but a fantastic venue.
  22. Not at all. I guess a case of you reading into my comments what you want. Let me see. Wilco are one of my favourite bands. I rate Wilco as one of the best live bands playing today. Over the course of 15 years they have put together a brilliant body of work. The run of "Being There" through "YHF" including the Mermaid Avenue releases is as good as anything in that same time period. The last three records have been somewhere between good and excellent. I respect Wilco's respect for their audience. And I firmly believe they have the right to do anything they want.
  23. I think if you could be arsed to read what I wrote I made a pretty clear distinction between what the band does in the studio and live. Since your comprehension skills are less than perfect, I'll state that I think it would be fun to hear Wilco throw in the occasional cover live like their Big Star cover in Memphis at the weekend.
  24. The great thing about Wilco is that they are a constantly evolving band. In terms of recorded output, I'd be amazed if they can put out anything as consistent and coherent as "Being There" , "Summerteeth" or "YHF" again. I attribute that simply to the fact that every great songwriter only has so many killer songs inside them. I love amongst others REM. Elvis Costello and Neil Young. When the aforementioned artists put out new albums I don't expect them to hit the heights of their respective purple patches. I think that Wilco's last three albums have been great additions to a fantastic body
