  1. Where am I wrong? Gods or eternity of the soul? There are, to my understanding Buddhists who worship gods, but most do not. Most Buddhists believe in reincarnation or a version of what Hindus call Nirvana or Moksha. edit: Never mind plenty of replies in the meantime to clarify.
  2. Most Buddhists do not acknowledge a personal god or diety, but believe in the eternity of the soul. I would think of them as athiests, but certainly quite spiritual.
  3. I was thinking of that one. I remember a friend telling me the first time he heard that he asked someone with him, "Is that guy going to be alive at the end of this song?" Another great Mould screamer is the last track of Black Sheets of Rain, "Sacrifice, Sacrifice"
  4. I thought Chris Mars's first solo album was one of the best hidden gems of the early 90s.
  5. When I had my wisdom teeth about around 15 years ago. The doctor came in and turned on the nitrous oxide, the left to finish with another patient. He was delayed as that patient asked lots of questions. I've never used nitrous recreationally, but that extra dose I got while waiting was pretty cool.
  6. Love Jackson Cannery. Maybe it'll lead to more performances down the road.
  7. He opened a lot for Bob Mould in the early and mid 90s. I never understood his acclaim.
  8. Thanks for posting. I love Pleased to Meet Me. It was the 1st Replacements album that was released AFTER I had become a fan.
  9. I thought about posting this in the election thread or starting a new thread. But I think it fits best here. It's a very angry letter written to an American soldier who does commentary on NPR and his reply. Link
  10. I hope fans aren't offended by this. I haven't read the article yet, but the headline was way too funny to not post: NASCAR Cancels Remainder of Season After David Foster Wallace's Death
  11. At my school, we say it once a week. It's voluntary for the students. I'm certain there's peer pressure and internal pressure not to stand out, but I like that our principal announces it's voluntary. The only cases I've known of kids sitting it out are Jehovah's Witnesses.
  12. I don't know who's to blame for any of this. My sense is it's all of us. Our greed. Our shortsightedness. And the financial industry's lack of self-regulation. Giving us a loan they knew we couldn't pay back better than we ourselve's realized. Could more regulation have prevented this? It sounds like the experts think so, but did we really want the lawmakers to regulate us out of that nice, big 4-bedroom house in the nice school district? Anyway... When I just checked the markets now, I thought, panic is really here. The dow down almost $1000 over 2 days. Oil going down, more than
  13. Yeah, to keep those godforsaken criminals on the streets! My brother is attorney, not criminal defense, but I do really understand the role you play. I once had a discussion with a friend of his. A real Texas-style defense attorney. He was (drunkenly) explaining his role in our system. I will paraphrase: "Everyone deserves an advocate in our system. That's what I do. I advocate for 'em. I not only keep 'em outta jail, I get their guns back for 'em!"
  14. He made a horrible, indefensible call and should be reprimanded. I don't know his history, but I've always respected his on-field demeanor and listened to a lot of commentators (before Sunday) call him one of the league's best. I was impressed by this article from a San Diego paper: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/sulli...17sullivan.html
  15. All schools are required to teach about the Constitution "on or around September 17". My lesson is always pretty much the same. An explanation on how a federal law requiring a local school to teach a specific topic on a specific day violates the spirit of the Constitution itself.
  16. Please for give my ignorance: What is the exact connection between UT and the Bottle Rockets?
