report back during the show.
i've got friends going, but i'm not. couldn't afford good seats and the cheap ones sold out in minutes
-
do you know anyone who actually was inside the venue during the show?
the show is in like a week and a half i think
-
Well, for what it's worth, there are 3rd row tickets for the first night, and 8th row tickets for the second night still available haha.
Not to mention in the small venue, there are still hundreds of tickets left on scalping sites, which tells me that everyone, including neil, way overestimated the amount of demand there would be for tickets priced that high. if they don't drop the prices down quite a bit, this show will have a lot of open seats up front
-
bbop, strictly out of curiosity are you going to post a review for this show? I love reading them and I'm curious what you thought of it
-
I don't follow Jeff Tweedy solo shows too much, but were any of the songs extremely rare?
-
Well the show they film should be flawless, Neil's had TONS of practice playing this show

"random guy in crowd" here... that was a strange moment, and clearly Jeff is not into hockey enough to get the reference. I think the D-bag near you was going for a repeat of the "Single Ladies" vibe from last year with disasterous results...I sang a bit for him and he looked like he swallowed a furball. After the exchange above I said to him , I think a hockey game just broke out and he gave me a funny look and launched into his next tune... overall, except for a few douches, i thought the crowd was pretty great. And the guy Jeff sang dir3ectly to, in the front row, is a long time Wilco fan. Later in teh show Jeff said that wherever they go, there Paul is. "If we got off the plane in Kuwait it would be like "Hi Paul. oing to Iceland tomorrow?" Paul: "Yup"
Haha, that's pretty funny. I'm not familiar with the "single ladies" thing though.
And that's very cool for Paul! The crowd did seem great, it was just that the guys were so close to us, but it's all good, it was my first time seeing him solo, so it was pretty amazing for me.
-
Just remembered another drunk tool behind us comment haha. After We've Been Had, the guy behind us said "If that's on the new album, I'm totally going to get it"
-
Awwwww.... Wouldn't it be cool if it was that guy's first Tweedy show?
Yeah that'd be pretty awesome haha. Jeff also said later about that song that you can't fake that kind of emotion.
After sleeping on it, i'm still pissed that we happened to be right in front of the biggest douchebags in the room. Seriously, these guys aside from screaming during and after songs yelled out random shit.
This isn't word for word, but this is what happened at one point.
Jeff talking before a song.
Douchebag 1: CHELSEA JAGER!!!!
Jeff: Chelsea what? what's he talking about?
Douchebag 1: YEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
random guy in crowd: it's the blackhawks song.
Jeff: The blackhawks song is called Chelsea Jager? Wait. how did we end up here?
Douchebag 2, to Douchebag 1: dude, jeff tweedy just chewed you a new asshole
unfortunately the continued to talk through songs and drunkenly tried to sing along. It was no surprise that when the lights came on at the end of the show, there were probably 15 beer cans on the floor where those guys were sitting.
It sucks, that that's what I'm thinking about when I'm thinking of the show right now, but it was hard to ignore
-
Eh, what the hell I'm bored, here are some highlights from me.
-A guy requested Pick Up the Change, so Jeff serenaded him, staring at him and singing it to him.
-He mentioned how he failed creative writing in school, and someone brought up Einstein failing math, so he wanted more examples of people who failed and became revolutionary or something. For some reason someone yelled Charlie Sheen, and without missing a beat, Jeff said how Charlie Sheen failed a drug test, and it turns out, he's great at taking drugs haha.
-He re-told the story of the mayors daughter
-

Just got back from the show. It was my first solo show and it was fantastic. Unfortunately we were sitting right in front of probably the biggest asshole in the theatre who screamed during and after every song and spilled beer on me and my friends. It didn't ruin the show, but it definitely put a damper on the evening.
-
That's interesting, because I really like the song a lot.
Also, I believe another song on the album is going to be this, which they've been playing live. Fantastic song by the way!
There's also a short clip on amazon of one of the new songs called Holdin on to Black Metal. It's very short so you can't tell much, but it sounds interesting for sure.
overall i'm very excited and think the album will be great

So i'm kind of on the fence about going. I've seen wilco lots of times and always loved it, but I've never seen Tweedy solo. What can I expect? Like how long does he play for and is there an opening band?
I'm just not sure because I'm kind of worried if it will be lacking something since it's not full band. I've heard plenty of Jeff Tweedy solo shows, but I'm not sure what it'd be like to actually be there. Anyone have any insight?
-
Well yea..kind of paranoid, I admit.
At one of the Vic shows there was a girl in a U of C sweat shirt that would not talk to anyone around her, kept stareing at Jeff and then stareing at Sue in the balcony, didn't applaud, sat on the floor during breaks and gave off a seriously creepy vibe to all those around her. She also left before the end of the show.
That's what I am talking about. Paranoid, sure!! Creepy?? Oh yea.
Then there were the guys who yelled at me in Ashville when I turned around, threw water at me and told me not to turn around again. Was in in danger? Maybe not, but that was some seriously creepy and threatening behavior too.
LouieB
Well this brings up a fair question: What's creepier, the girl doing that, or the guy who is at a Jeff Tweedy show and staring at some girl the entire night instead of watching the performer?

Reminds me of another band...
which one?

I started at UVA the year before Under the Table and Dreaming came out. I can still listen to that one, Remember Two Things and Recently, although I really don't listen to DMB very often at all. No question they are a hugely talented group of musicians - I don't know how anyone who has listened to their music can disagree - and I had a great time the couple live shows I saw them play, but I kind of hate how they seem to have to make every song like so epic, man (this is probably an over-generalization). For example, I was in the Houston airport recently for a layover, and as I was sitting there eating my gigantic corn dog (which was awesome, btw), some live version of "Warehouse," which has always been one of my favorite DMB songs, came over the PA. While the song itself was fine, it seemed like it took them forty minutes of false starts and other BS to get there. I got sick of the song before it even started.
And yeah, while I think the average DMB fan is kind of a douchebag, I'm not going to blame the band for that. There are plenty of people who like Wilco that I wouldn't want to hang out with.
i agree completely, i used to listen to them, but haven't for a few years. The epic thing is spot on. Every song, even quiet ones, either have to huge build up live, or Dave starts screaming during it to give it more "energy" That's fine for some songs, but it can be a bit draining to listen to.

You're complaining about the processing charges for a charity show? Really? I don't remember them being any higher than usual for the one I went to two years ago.
it's not specific for this show, just shows in general, i hate it.
I was all excited to see tickets for The National in Milwaukee were $29, then when I selected 2 to buy the total was like $85. I'm so sick of the ridiculous charges that get added on. I think the Jeff Tweedy tickets were $50 each, but came to a little over $120 for 2. I just don't have a lot of money is all, and $50 would be pushing it a little for me, so $62 or whatever is just more than I have to spend.
It's nothing against charities or anything, it's more to do with my money situation
-
I would love to go to one of these, but the processing charges kill me
-
saw this, and i'm really surprised some of the bands playing it. I never wanted to see the day when the the Flaming Lips and Oar played at the same festival haha
-
the international harvesters band was a great band, but they were kind of hit and miss with me. some of the songs i'm sure will be great, but sometimes i just didn't care for them.
for example, powderfinger is one of my all-time favorite songs, but not like this haha

Tuesday's Gone- Cat Stevens
Friday I'm in Love- The Cure

evidently that video was not supposed to posted. although it was on the official neil young youtube channel. anyway, the neil insider who posts on the rust list posted a cease and desist and threatened that the Treasure album may not be released because of this debacle. drama drama. and, who cares? there some good responses from folks about all the neil young BS through the years...this and ticket prices being only two.
haha, wow, if that happens it will be sad. sounds kind of like a hissy fit from old neil if he does pull the plug

I'd love to hear a tonight's the night era live album!
1973-11-16, Music Hall, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
w/ The Santa Monica Flyers
Don't Be Denied / When You Dance I Can Really Love / Tonight's The Night / World On A String / New Mama / Roll Another Number / Tired Eyes / The Needle And The Damage Done / Ohio / Human Highway / Helpless / I Believe In You / Cinnamon Girl / Cowgirl In The Sand / The Losing End / Tonight's The Night
Absolutely no idea on how that show is performance wise, but setlist wise it'd be a cool release I think
Neil Young ticket prices
in Someone Else's Song

eh, 400+ tickets for this show, cheapest one is 78 plus a combined $25 shipping and service charge. maybe the day before the show they will be cheap, but not yet i guess. says an awful lot there the show isn't sold out and there's still at very least 400 tickets through secondary sites.

chicago theater holds 3,600 so, let's say there's a total of 600 tickets being sold through scalping, and at least another 400 i'm sure still available at box office, that means as of now close to 1/3 of the venue is open.
ouch
