  1. Ha ha. That does sound different tan I meant it. I would love some actual snow, not cocaine. when I read Jules', I was expecting a snow-coke connection but realized that he was probably referring to actual snow in your area. Which shows that he is not Senor Snark. (I'm betting you didn't want this rambling, coked-out type of response).
  2. Initially, I was just thinking about how I would be able to experience nature in a unique way by shifting into animals. I love the natural world. But flying would be an amazing experience, then I realized that if I gave up the space travel part, I could fly and be among the animals. Every time I read a new entry, I have another reason why animal transmogrification would be my choice. It includes the underwater ability, invisibility as a human, superhuman vision, not spiderperson but spider, superhuman speed, superhuman strength, I could not super balance things but could be super balanced (wa
  3. I really like McCartney. Not only his music but the man. I got a kick out of the entire thing. He is arguably one of the most famous people in the world but is sitting in the cheap seats. If I found myself sitting next to him, it would be difficult to not talk to him the entire time. If I somehow had tickets to some fancy deal and was seated next to him, not so much, but if he was in "the common man's domain", I think that I'd feel as though the rules were different. I wonder how much the guy next to him engaged him in conversation? When I saw him in May, not only was it an excellent show, b
  4. Ha! When I read the "I thought NoJ posted this", I expected some sort of NoJ cocaine use joke. But obviously he/she is a fellow Chicagoan, right, Jules? (and proof that Jules is more than the snark man that some claim). I'd love some snow.
  5. I had a tough time choosing between flying and animal transmogrification boy but then realized that being an trans man would allow flying. So shifter it is!
  6. I agree with Lammycat but suspended for a year? There has to be more to the story. I have taught for 28 years, if a teacher hugged a student without an invite, hell with an invite!, they should expect a shitstorm. Hugging a student that had asked them not to? plus having their lips touch them? A student, especially high school age, can't hug their teacher in the manner described, either. I feel like Paul Harvey will chime in with "the rest of the story".
  7. Our kids always played with the neighbor kids, just as I did, but no friendships ever developed between us and the other parents. Neighborly acquaintances, at most. That is very interesting to me, your description of your neighborhood. Nothing wrong with it at all, it just sounds extraordinary.
  8. Being neighborly is a good thing. Keeping an eye on each other's houses, helping out, loaning, small talk when we see one another, etc., all that happens with my immediate neighbors and myself. The having over for dinner, hanging out type behaviors? Those are only reserved for friends. I can't recall any neighbors since childhood that I had any desire to befriend. Not enough in common and/or serious differences between us put the kibosh on spending real time together. I can imagine having neighbors that become my friends, I just haven't experienced it.
  9. Yes, that's it. I am not a fan of the Dead, though I did see them once in 1978 when I was 14. I am a fan of their songs, though, mainly when performed by others. Clearly, serious Dead fans are about the music, not drugs. The amount of different shows that they listen to, the encyclopedic knowledge of different eras, etc. means that hey are music fans. If they had to be tripping when listening to all of those Dead shows, they'd have been casualties long ago. It's obvious that it's about the music. Much respect to them. I cannot imagine being into anything to that degree. To put it all down to d
  10. Personal insults will not be tolerated. I hope that banter will. I like banter. I feel certain that many VCers enjoy banter. Unfortunately, it seems as though some members have difficulty identifying banter, feel personally attacked and take issue with what probably isn't an issue. Not any of the above, necessarily. Anyway, I could be wrong but I will work on being friendlier to all. I agree with Artis Gilmore about the times a changin' re Spotify, file sharing and all of the other new fangled methods of trading cassettes. For David Lowery and others, it must feel like being a blacksmith wat
  11. Ha! I'd say well played but I did lob a softball at a slow high arc. You were wit-slumming, Jules. I rank you high in the VC Roundtable, maybe the Heywood Broun seat.
  12. I will hold my hand up say that I like to save money. Spotify sounds like a hell of a good way to save money. Would I prefer the musicians, er, excuse me, creators, were paid more? Yes. Will I likely sign up for Spotify? Yes.
  13. The only bands that I have never missed nor will miss live are The Old 97s and Wilco. If they were playing the same night... I'd go to the 97s. There are few things more fun and enjoyable than an Old 97s show.
  14. I read the linked Costco article and it doesn't mention CEO Craig Jelinek's salary or compensation. In the first paragraph it mentions 26 year employee Joe Carcello and his $52,700 salary plus his sizable 401K that his employer has matched. Where did you get the CEO making 52K info from? edit- I found the below. Still low and Costco rocks but not 52K Originally published Monday, November 28, 2011 at 1:29 PM Costco sets pay for incoming CEONew Costco CEO Craig Jelinek gets a pay raise. 15. I wondered what in hell RIYL meant but then I thought, "Hell, boy, you live in the information age. Google that shit!". So the content creators, that's the musicians, correct?, don't get much money from Spotify? Then I'd bet David Lowery is against it.
  16. If I had a time machine, I would use it to engage the ignore feature that I have been reading about.
  17. Wow, that is interesting. I didn't know much about Spotify and thought that is was basically a radio type of deal. Thanks for the information. I will look into it.
  18. Hopefully someone will comply and answer your question.
  19. The photo of President Obama and the 2 prime ministers is a non-issue. Big deal. There is a difference between a 4-hour long memorial service for a revered (but very famous) world leader held at a stadium and somebody's grandma's funeral at the local mortuary.
