  1. Because every single U2 song is political There have been political undertones in Wilco's work for a long time. They've been subtle, and I think they'll continue to be subtle. "Hope" and "change" haven't been throwaway politcal buzzwords--they're things that people in this country have been desperately wanting for a long time, and they're not things our country is going to suddenly discover overnight. A huge amount of the art being produced in this country right now (be it literature, music, visual art, etc.) is going to reflect both those values and the desire for them. The personal is ve
  2. This is a really bizarre schedule. I know part of it has to do with stadium availability, but they're going to skip Miami, Seattle, and Philadelphia--cities they always play on the first U.S. leg of their tours--and play in Norman, Oklahoma? If I'm still living in the Northeast in the fall, I'm pretty screwed. I can get a ticket for up to four shows with my presale code, but unless they add more cities or I get a job in the Chicago area, I'll be saving my code for their second U.S. leg next summer Also, with so many major markets on sale the same day, Live Nation is so going to crash.
  3. Those videos were immediately what I thought of when I saw this thread
  4. Geraldine Fibbers--What Part of "Get Thee Gone" Do You Not Understand?
  5. There is actually one...it's a picture of the current lineup with a blue background. I think it first appeared with an article around the time SBS was released. It really looked exactly like a 70s era Sears portrait. I can't find it, though.
  6. And it could have that great Sears portrait-esque picture of them as the cover. It would be an instant classic.
  7. I've been listening more to live shows and mixes lately than full albums, but YHF was in my car stereo for over a month, and it's always been the Wilco album I've listened to in its entirety the most. I haven't listened to AGIB in quite awhile, though, so I'll probably put that on sometime today.
  8. Best Buy has all 27 versions of the album on sale. I picked up the most basic deluxe edition, and what immediately stood out to me as I was checking out the packaging earlier tonight was how much the photography and design of the insert reminded me of the design of Achtung Baby.
  9. I could've sworn I paid almost $100 for the ticket I bought last year...I'm not 100% sure because I ended up being really sick and wasn't able to go. I remember thinking when I was buying it "So this is what I can expect to pay for U2 on the next tour."
  10. $55 is awesome. I was expecting them to follow Springsteen and bump them up to $100 this time.
  11. He called him a wanker on some British radio show last week. I've been listening to the album all day at work, and I'm loving a good portion of it. There are three or four songs I'm sort of indifferent to, but the rest is pretty solid.
  12. I never really understood the point of these list articles, even though they're so trendy these days. If you're digging deeply into a band's catalog, your audience is mostly people who're already familiar with that catalog, unless you're doing something to try to win new listeners over, which this piece doesn't seem to. Basically, they all just come out sounding like "songs I like and songs I don't," and the writer usually comes off as whiny. I don't strongly disagree with any of the choices on either list, but sweeping generalizations and exaggerations aren't helping (I've always thought Impo
  13. Lyrically, I actually think it's better than the last two albums, at least on my first few listens. And I wonder if Will Rogers Jr. is looking for a girlfriend? I have a lot going on at work the next two days, so today was probably really my only chance to win.
