  1. Not necessarily. Amazon does a daily mp3 deal and sells an album (often a pretty popular one or a new release) for usually only a dollar or two, and ever Friday they offer five albums for $5 each. I'm starting to like their mp3 store more than iTunes, and chances are I wouldn't have even started using it if it weren't for one of those sales.
  2. I tell my students that, too, but most of the time they don't believe me.
  3. I keep coming into this thread to post my favorites, but I kept getting stuck at my fifth. I finally picked one, though. I wonder what it says about my psyche that all of these books are basically about broken but beautiful things? 1. The Sun Also Rises--Ernest Hemingway I first read this book when I was a junior in high school. My religion teacher took us to the library to do some sort of project. I remember half-assing my way through it, then checking out this book and hiding in a corner of the library to start reading it. I'd read a few other books by Hemingway, but this one completely su
  4. Dealing with FLAC files themselves isn't that hard. It's when you start downloading torrents that things get tricky. To take FLAC files from Owl and Bear and convert them so they'll play in iTunes, I downloaded Trader's Little Helper, and really it couldn't be simpler. It's literally a two click process to convert the files. If you can burn a CD, you can use it.
  5. I was hoping for Nels as an opener, but he has shows scheduled on the west coast that weekend. Maybe Mikael's band, since their album comes out only a few weeks before and they're based in New York? That would be cool, too.
  6. For some reason, I thought the album came out in the fall, and when I went looking on iTunes for it, the only Pronto I could find was a hip hop artist that had a handful of really awful versions of "Gonna Make You Sweat" I'm looking forward to getting this Pronto's album, though.
  7. I was pleasantly surprised that Crypto shipped preorders so early. I've had mine for about three weeks, too. It's a really brave and beautiful album that shows off his full range. It's amazing that he did it all himself, too--no other musicians, just overdubs.
  8. I'm home sick today and completely slept through the presale. I think I'm going to take that as a sign that I'm not meant to go to this show. I was waffling about it anyway. I hope that everybody who goes has a great time, though!
  9. A.M. has a few rough spots, but it's pretty terrific, especially when you keep in mind that it was their debut album and it was recorded in so little time. Too Far Apart remains among my favorite Wilco tunes, and quite a few of the other tracks have held up well over time. Casino Queen and It's Just That Simple are both still amazing live, and there are other crank up the volume tunes on the album. In fact, I think that CD will go in the stereo on my way to work tomorrow. I haven't played it for awhile.
  10. From Wilcoworld (which I posted in the northeast shows thread yesterday): I'd call the sponsoring organization if there isn't information about how to buy tickets available by Friday. Also, MusicToday often doesn't have information about shows until not long before the presale begins, so nothing seems out of the ordinary to me.
  11. I considered taking my dad to see him in Hershey as an early Father's Day present, but the only price level where I can get two seats is the highest one, and the seats are all the way in the back of the stadium. I can't believe they priced that part of the stadium so high, considering it's a crap view from back there. Just the tickets, service charge, and parking would cost me over $250. And the Hershey entertainment complex uses Music Today, not even Ticketbastard. If they were better seats and I was convinced my dad would really want to go (he passed up my offer to take him when Springsteen
  12. I'm still waffling about whether I want to go to this or if I want to stay in Northampton for that weekend.
  13. Thanks for the report, Lou. I thought Glenn was scheduled to play a solo show somewhere in Chicago this week, but I forgot to ask about it. I'm really looking forward to seeing him with Bang On a Can All-Stars next month.
  14. It's worth keeping in mind that they're going to be touring extensively in the U.S. this summer. Would a show in Spain really be all that different than a show in the U.S.? I have a hard time imagining I'd ever marry someone who wasn't willing to put up with my love of live music, which is why I answered the way that I did, but if it's going to interfere in any way with your honeymoon, it would be stupid to do it. I also don't think going without her would be a good idea; if she doesn't want to go with you, wait until you're home to go to a show on your own or with friends.
  15. The whole tour? Too much. One show? That doesn't sound unreasonable, especially since your trip has already been planned and the date just happens to coincide. I'd suggest spending the rest of the trip loving the fact that you're in Spain with your new wife and not talking about how much you can't wait for the show, though!
