I do, but they have taken over one year to fix one of my turntables. Luckily I have two others.... 20th Century on Montrose is very good for turntables and tuners and such. They are waiting for a part for over a year from Germany, but they do very good work when they have what they need. Lauries uses them too. They don't re-cone speakers, but Speakerworks up on Western does a great job at that. I understand desibels does okay work and I have had okay luck with Delta Audio on Clark Street in Rogers Park. I would personally stay away from the stereo place on Western in Lincoln Square. Sinc

Let's see.....who called who a nazi. I appreciate Wendy's desire to make nice with this guy and frankly I was making pretty nice too (he seems to have come around to our thinking as well), but considering we actually KNOW cryptique I think defending him was proper as well. I see no reason that coming to the defense of someone we know and have spent time with in real life should be a problem here either. Had someone attacked Wendy, we also should have supported her. No harm done I suppose but cryptique's point is well taken none the less. I am sure TW is a good guy and a decent musician

Ah now we are being called names. You can talk about bands here if you want, just maybe don't start by talking about your hobby band off the top. Pedro the Lion is relatively famous...relatively, meaning I have heard of then and probably heard them as well on collage radio or some such place. LouieB

You do have a career, you have an album on Truckstop records, that's what this is all about among other things. You also didn't come here to discuss Wilco, you came to promote yourself. At least cop to it and be done with it. LouieB

I wouldn't even go see any band I was in...... I am fully done with this. Clearly TW is the consumate professional and has a great music career going and really doesn't need VC or any other half ass website. Good luck with it all. Maybe he can tell us where he played in Chicago, just curious, but I don't plan to reply again. I do like Pinetop Seven and I suppose the Goblins were groovy. Glenn has recorded with any number of bands, some of which aren't on Truckstop. LouieB

So far I continue to side with cryptique. I understand his point. This is actually a pretty mellow board with lots of folks who are in bands and promote themselves all the time and we actually go SEE people we know are sincere. I have been accused of being an asshole too on occasion, but let's get real. No one is interested if you aren't going to try and relate. All of us have jobs, but some of us also get to hang on the net a bit too. Frankly if you have to stoop so low as to promote your band (Pedro the Lion or not) on a fan board rather than find "real" fans through your local free pap

Being slightly more polite, I think cryptique has a point. This is mainly a fan site, not a place to promote stuff unless you have at least a bit of history. Also you shouldn't be too thin skinned, everyone gets ripped for something from time to time. Once you are here, made some friends (both real and virtual), then you can promote yourself, otherwise it does seem a bit tacky. In point of fact many of us DO know each other in real life or are willing to meet in real life so don't take it so hard. I have met and like three of the people who responded to you, so don't freak out....they ar

Take them to the Hop Leaf and let them go crazy with whatever they want. (Depending on who it is, I will buy.) LouieB

That sounds like another thread entirely. LouieB

Vinyl wears anyway, but putting many grams of weight on it will only accelarate the wear. Don't do it unless it is a really beat up album and you don't give a shit. A really badly warped album may need more weight as well, but that should be the only other reason. I seriously have not seen anyone do this since I was basically a kid (including college) which goes back to 1972 and the 60s. But in those days we had suit case type hifis and plastic fold down units with detachable speakers and other tacky bullshit systems. If a turntable is skipping on a number of disks it is because it need

Good idea, since the Black Keys started out there, but their old blues guys do a pretty good job.LouieB I hace yet to see Scott, but I was shocked at how good his new album was. I figured most of his act was played out on his first Bloodshot album (which is old and new material I guess), but the new one has some excellent songs on it and great arrangements.LouieB

You really shouldn't need a quarter on your tone arm. Take this to a hi-fi store and have them check it out. You can up the amount of weight on the arm by adjusting the arm itself. I haven't seen anyone do this since I was in college and we had all in one stereos. LouieB

Yea, she is pretty crazy... LouieB

Before there were the Black Keys there was a group called Cash Money, which was two guys (guitar and drums). Later they had to change their name to Cash Audio, because they got sued by the Cash Money record company. They played some great dirty bluesish stuff Also check out Scott H. Biram, a one man band from down your way. His new album on Bloodshot is great. LouieB

Evolutionary I suppose. Wilco gave away music when they were economically more at risk (YHF) and in the meantime WIlco has given away tons of free music, EPs, odds and ends, etc. I don't think Wilco gave it away as a reaction to it being released, but maybe someone who knows more can chime in.... Giving away music in any form is hardly either revolutionary or evolutionary and Radiohead can afford to do this in any event. LouieB

CD oil sounds like snake oil. LouieB

Didn't a group called Wilco do this a few years ago? Why is this such a strange thing? As I recall Wilco gave it away for nothing.... Also sold vinyl copies with a free CD chaser. LouieB

I was hoping someone knew something instead of wishful thinking... It is also possible that the Thanksgiving shows could be around Christmas too. LouieB

Crazy talking in blank verse. Who do you love and who don't you? Can I get a witness or something like that? Prince can still rock for an old man. He seems like a nice enough guy. Not as sexy as he used to be. And what is up with Jehovah's Witnesses? How does that all fit in. Wow this is fun. LouieB

new Ray Davies - Working Man's Cafe
LouieB replied to Vancouver Skyline's topic in Someone Else's Song
I know, that's why I bought it, but somehow it isn't really calling me from off the shelf.... LouieB -
If you have real issues and are not sure, take it to your local hi-fi store and let them check it out. LouieB

I still haven't gotten around to listening to his last solo album. LouieB -
exactly... LouieB

That isn't alot of records but by contrast of what he used to do, I suspect it is a ton. It is a ton compared to most openers I bet also. Either way, I would rather see Andrew Bird any time than Dr. Dog. They were okay.... LouieB

So has anyone found it to be a common occurence
LouieB replied to wilcohead's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Vinyl records are plastic. Warping could occur anywhere in the process from manufacturing to shipping to storage. A decent turntable should be able to handle a minor warp. LouieB
