  1. I saw Sonny many years ago when he played Amazingrace in Evanston. That was a very long time ago. I may have seen him twice, I just can't remember any more. One of the last of the old timers.... LouieB
  2. How do you figure that? No one has sued him. Who else wrote them? LouieB
  3. Most of the material on the Numero Groups CDs is a bit rough around the edges. The kind of stuff on the other comps we are talking about were at least released my either major or sub-major labels, whereas the Numero stuff is from very local and sometimes shoestring type labels; but that is part of the charm, local entrepreneurs trying to do what the bigger labels were doing. I don't have all of them, but those I have do have some interesting stuff on them. They did a fantastic job on the Nashville material. They sound great and the notes are well done too. LouieB
  4. Cool story..defininitely. The Rollins show will be released with another Carnegie Hall show from years ago; article in the NY Times about this was very interesting. LouieB
  5. I can't seem to find it by the net, but Laurie's has a copy and I am sure it is not out of print. It is NOT the Atlantic gold comp which is some low budget fun. This is four CDs in a funky box bigger box set. at about $50; stuff from Atlantic/Warner. let me keep seeing if I can get an image. Here you go...from our friends at Rhino LouieB
  6. All true yet none of it seems to matter. The movie itself was pretty much set up anyway, so who cares what they did. Despite all his bad traits, Robbie remains one of the great guitarists and songwriters ever.... Oh yea...I forgot to disagree about the rest not being so great....they are great enough. LouieB
  7. You know me too well. I really like the crazy shit they have on the Numero Group CDs and I was looking at that box set of Atlantic/Warners obscure soul stuff that came out recently. I was also looking at a set of Vee Jay, but I have the earlier comp which works just fine. I ran into the Numero folks at Pitchfork and they must have thought I was a total nutcase....telling them how important their work was and stuff. Actually I admire the hell out of those people who put out obscure stuff like this. It is a part of our musical heritage which could just as easily get lost without a trace (s
  8. I need this immediately....damn.....logging onto Amazon....(edit...already done...thanks for the heads up......$16 bucks plus shipping it looks like a bargain.) LouieB
  9. Me too....absolutely heart wrenching... LouieB
  10. That's what I heard. Somehow covering the Band seems a fools game....however the Mekons did a bang up job of It Makes No Difference a few years back. LouieB
  11. Good one for sure....For me Absolutely Free would count as one of those albums that helped change my life.... LouieB
  12. Apparently the favorite part of Cops is when they use the taser on people......wicked..... LouieB
  13. Someone should post THAT on just one song.... You gotta give David Crosby his props...he has lived a really nutty life..... LouieB
  14. I believe you are correct. Some things should remain out of print.....(just kidding..) Both of these got played to death back in the day. Super Session was one of the first LPs I ever bought and set off my trying to get everything by everyone. Season of the Witch by them kicks ass. Yes it is an Al Kooper record. I ended up buying all of his records as a result (to a point.) Manassas I is a great album.... LouieB
  15. Yea, it was spacey enough......sort of a hippie sci-fi vision of the future....then the empire struck back......LouieB Yea, see above.....some guy we all know...LouieB
  16. No wonder your dad let you steal it. Most of the solo Crosby, Nash and Crosby, Nash, Stills, etc., I frankly don't care if I ever hear again. I have nearly all of them on vinyl because they were exceptionally easy to find in junk shops back when everyone's dad was done with them in the 80s. I won't deny they have their charms, I just am not sure what those charms are any more. (honestly not trying to start a fight here....nearly all the Byrds records stand the test of time as do some of the Hollies, Buffalo Springfield, etc.) (I have a soft spot in my heart for Super Session though....) L
  17. Yea I noticed he bought that and Steven Stills II, both on vinyl. Must be filling in his CSNY related works. I also don't believe it was worthy of that kind of reissue, but then again.... LouieB
  18. Is that one back in print?? I believe there is a new version that came out not long ago too. For some reason I recall listening to a version in the library way back when I first was getting into Cage and there were few records available. (I was lucky enough to see him lecture at Northwestern one time...) LouieB
  19. Baby, baby, please believe me I would never never do anything to hurt you Baby, baby, please believe me I would never never do anything to you to make you blue But yesterday I got this letter From the boy I loved before I ever knew you Before I even knew you And the train from Kansas city is coming into town. The train from Kansas city is a-coming And there's nothing I can do can make it turn around. Baby, baby, please believe me Nothing in this world would tear us apart We'll never, never part So wait right here and I will hurry I'll be back in the time it takes to break a heart I gotta b
  20. I have the version that was on Tomato records. I believe it is out of print, but not sure. It was one of the first LPs I bought at Lauries when it first opened. LouieB
  21. Yea, I wish I could see him, but scheduling conflicts..oh well.... LouieB
  22. I think I have at least one and maybe two vinyl copies of this..... One of my favorite all times are the Blasters first two records, American Music and The Blasters....both under appreciated in my opinion. LouieB
  23. Mary Lee's Corvette's take on Blood on the Tracks is kind of interesting... LouieB
  24. I am still waiting on a nice cheap used copy of this one to cross my path....\ LouieB
